”Blessings be upon you, justice-friend! Why, yes, of course you are a friend! Jal-Ei is a friend to all!”
General Information
Name:
“Well, that is not entirely true. My name used to be Jal-Ei. Now you can call me...”
Alias:
“...July! Haha, it sounds like it, doesn’t it? It is much easier for people to remember. I don’t know why, but some of the folks back home called me Bloodscale. That makes no sense! My scales have always been green! They are not like blood at all!”
Age:
“I am pretty young, now that I think about it. It has only been ten years since…” *He stops, then counts with his fingers* “I think I am sixteen by your human years.”
Origin Game:
The Elder Scrolls {1994)
Homeland:
“I am from the Kingdom! Oh, you mean… Demacia! Demacia is my home! ‘Now and Forever!’”
Faction:
“I used to live with my clan back in Blackmarsh, but now I live in Demacia! I go to Big School, you know. Just you wait, you will hear about “July the Mighty” before you know it!”
Gender:
“July is… a guy, haha!”
History:
“Jal-Ei does not remember much of their childhood. It is a blur most of the time. The clan was very busy in Blackmarsh. Jal-Ei never knew father. Mother told Jal-Ei he… left us, for something. Jal-Eil cannot remember what. Mother never left, though! She was one of the village leaders, always helping others get by. There was not much time for Jal-Ei. But, that was okay! Her work was very important for the village. If she had not helped everyone…
“One day, mother came into the hut to tell Jal-Ei that it was time to leave. Jal-Ei still does not understand what it was about. The village wasn’t doing well that day. Everyone was so upset! Their scales were so sickly, and they did not even recognize Jal-Ei! It was probably for the best that Jal-Ei did not stick around. Mother gave Jal-Ei this little pendant, see? It’s even prettier than it was when Mother gave it to Jal-Ei. She took Jal-Ei to a strange man in a cloak on a carriage. She said he would take Jal-Ei somewhere to stay. She did not say for how long, and Jal-Ei did not ask. Let Jal-Ei tell you, all of this was happening a little too quickly! ‘Jal-Ei does not want to go at all!’, Jal-Ei had said to mother. ‘Jal-Ei wants to be here, with you!’
“But, mother was insistent. Jal-Ei promised to go, if she sung one last time. She was such a good singer, you see. People came far and wide to listen to her. It was like she had a power over them. This was mother’s favorite song. It sounded so sweet when she sang it to Jal-Ei as a hatchling, and even sweeter when she sung it one last time. Jal-Ei never got to ask her what it meant. It must have been beautiful…”
“The strange man took Jal-Ei far, far away. Jal-Ei does not remember how long it was. Jal-Ei fell asleep a few times. When Jal-Ei woke up one time, it was in a bed! It was so much softer than the one back home. Jal-Ei started to cry for mother, but… then Jal-Ei remembered. This would be home for a while. A lady in clothes Jal-Ei did not recognize came rushing in. Jal-Ei did not recognize the lady, either. She said she was Mother, but that could not be right. Mother was waiting for Jal-Ei back home, in the marsh! New Mother explained that she would be Mother while Jal-Ei stayed here. Jal-Ei did not know where “here” was, but it sure was strange! None of the people had any scales. They had something called “skin”. It was soft like the bedsheets, and it could not even handle a little fire. How did these people get by?!
“Eventually, New Mother said it was time for Jal-Ei to go to school. Jal-Ei had never been to school before. She did not like that. Apparently Jal-Ei had been missing out! There were lots of Argonians there, and other people who looked… well, different. They had skin, but it was, uhh, different. It is hard for Jal-Ei to explain. Some of them even had pointed ears! It was strange. The teachers - they are teachers, yes? - were a bit like New Mother, but sometimes they could be really mean! They called Jal-Ei things Jal-Ei did not understand. Jal-Ei was Jal-Ei! Eventually, they stopped being mean when Jal-Ei called Jal-Ei "July", and when July said things like “himself” and “I”. It did not make any sense, but doing it made the teachers nice to me. It was like that with the other students too, so it was probably okay. July was not being singled out. This was school?
“New Mother was happy to see July was doing well in school. July was not sure about school, but it made New Mother happy, so I was happy too! All of the big, shiny men walking around the city were so cool! I hoped July could be like them one day. New Mother said I needed to study really, really hard, and maybe, just maybe, July could get into Big School! New Mother called it something else, but I was bad with names here. It is taking some getting used to.
“I did as New Mother said, and studied really, really hard! It was very lonely. No one wanted to hang out with me. July wanted to hang out with them, but there was no time! He- I, needed to be smart so he could get into Big School and become a big, shin- oh, a knight! Become a knight! It was all I ever wanted! July tried, and tried, and tried… and it worked! I got into Big School! New Mother was so happy! She was… very happy, actually. I hope she will miss me. Big School is going to be so much fun!”
Drive:
“I want to do well in Big School, so that when I am done growing up, I can be like the big, shiny men in the city! July the Mighty will be the greatest knight in all the land! You will see!”

Visual Appearance:
“‘He looks handsome!’ That is what Mother always said. I grew faster than other hatchlings. I must have been born to become a knight! I am around, uhh…” *He counts on his fingers* “five of your feet tall, and eight inches! Uhh, but, I am still growing! Probably. My horns are still coming in, I think. New Mother says my features could scare people, but no one else has said that to me, so I don’t think it is true. Not when I am smiling! Sure, they are big, sharp fangs that no one around here has, but a good friend told me they are gross! Like this face paint!” *He gestures at his cheeks* “A friend dared July to try them on at the festival, and… well, it was not for people like July, so they became permanent… but, they are not harmful! I am told that they are pretty cool, actually!” *He beams*
Clothing/Armor:
“I wear the Big School uniform! "Err… well, I wear one of them. Big School is, well, big, so I wear the uniform for the school in Big School that I am a student for. It is hard for July to understand, but Crown Girl tells me that it is important to follow the rules. And I am good at following rules!”
“I have not gone on a mission yet, but Big School gave me a suit of armor!! Can you believe it?! It is not the actual thing, but it sure looks like it! Demacia has been getting very good at making the best equipment. They don’t let July use it (yet!), but I have been learning how. It is heavy, but not as heavy as it should be. I can move around in it without too much trouble, and take a lot of hits during practice too. More than most students, actually. Is that because of Demacia… or July the Mighty?”
Personality
“‘July is a friend to all!’ This is my ‘catch phrase’. A friend told me that all knights need a catch phrase, so this is mine! I think it is a good one. I do hope to become friends with everyone. That is something Demacia would like, too. Demacia is a wonderful place. If the rest of the Kingdom saw how wonderful we were, maybe things would not be so bad. One day, I will help make that dream a reality. I think that is a good dream. When I tell people this, they make fun of me. I do not understand at all. They are also citizens of Demacia. They should want the same thing, right? That is what school taught me. It is what I am still learning in Big School. This is why everyone needs to be friends! I will do everything I can to get through to others! Being Argo- being, umm… not, being a human, is difficult here, but I don’t let that stop me. I… I can’t.”
Weapons/Items
“Mother’s pendant? It is the only thing I have left from home. New Mother tried to take it from me many times. She said it was ‘wrong’. There is nothing wrong with Mother, or her pendant! Wherever I go, Mother goes! Besides, it is just a pendant that I wear around my neck! I know that people here have family jewelry. Mine is no different.”
“The armor from big school comes with a big spear!... oh, no. That is not right. Mister Gilbert says they are called lances. Like the armor, they are not as heavy as they look, but they still hit like it. I tried to get the lances that shoot fire, but they were too complicated. That made July sad, but getting in close is better anyway! Not that many students at Big School want to get in close. I’ll show them!”
Abilities/Powers
“Coming from Blackmarsh taught me some things that people in Demacia can’t do! For example, I can breathe underwater for as long as I want. Swimming is a breeze, too!... when I am not wearing the Big School armor, anyway. It is very hard for July to get sick, even when I eat bad meat. I mean, not that the meat is bad! But no one else seems to want it, so I may as well have it, right? There is something else, but July does not understand it. It is something within the skin. Sometimes it makes me feel warm and full inside. New Mother told July that it was hallucinations. ‘That filthy swamp sickness’. July does not think that is it. I do not get sick, after all, and this is something good, not bad. Maybe someday I can go back to Blackmarsh to ask someone there.”
“I… should not be saying this, but you told me to be honest. I do not want to be kicked out of Big School. Sometimes, I feel… ‘something’. When I, uhh, ‘reach’ for that something, it can cause things to… happen? It is hard to explain. I think it might be magic. But, but, I do not want the magic! I want to be a knight! Not a mage! Please keep this a secret! I will be good. July promise!”
“School and Big School have been teaching me lots of things too! I know how to handle a weapon now! It is only a matter of time before I will be able to use the weapons and armor that knights use! I have gotten a basic idea of how combat works, like how to fight the enemy and protect my friends! That is all that I can do for now, though. Thinking hard during a fight is not something I am good at, and that is okay. Demacia will need heroes following orders too!”
