Gender: Female
Age: 17
Date of Birth: June 25th
Place of Origin: Odaiba, Japan
Occupation: Student
Faction: U.A. Hero Course Class 2-A
Appearance
Visual Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Mei has milky yellow-green skin all throughout her body with extra human arms starting beneath her original ones with those having spiked raptorial appendages that fold while the humanoid ones have small hooks on the fingertips. Attached to her tailbone is a large abdomen that have two sets of segmented wings attached and upon the small of her back start segmented insectoid legs that also fold but usually stay tucked behind her back. Her eyes have hidden compounding, being a golden yellow with a large black pupil. Her hair is bobbed and colored a leafy green along with the attenaes atop her forehead, her raptorial limbs, her abdomen, humanoid arms, and insectoid legs.
Mei stands around 6'9" and weighing under 130lbs due to her mutation, making her relatively light compared to other girls her age but looking healthy despite this.
Civilian Clothes: Prefers light and airy clothing with plenty of room to manuever her anatomy including extra-sleeved blouses with frilled accroutrements, miniskirts with a hole in the back for her insect abdomen, and any type of dress shoe colored black or white. Her favorite colors are of light blues, whites, yellows, and sometimes blacks.
Hero Outfit:
She wears armor on her suit to better protect the areas which are more fragile on her body though she cannot protect them all. It comes with both a green motif and a white motif both with black garments that adhere to her lithe body and allow easier movement. The helm's eyes allow her sight to be vastly improved and comes with slots in which her barbed arms, extra legs, antennae, and insect abdomen can surface. The facemask can open at the mouth to allow her to bite with her mandibles if she feels like it. Otherwise, the suit finally gives off a sheen to best represent her 'diamond' aesthetic.
Personality
Bad Habits: Prone to staring for long periods of time and giving hugs whether they are called for or not.
Goal: To become a hero that lets her actions do all her talking and inspire others to give them a voice
General Personality: Mei is considered to be extremely affectionate and very eager to learn. Despite this, she is incredibly patient with others and herself. As she cannot speak normally, she expresses emotions through sound and single syllable words but is a firm believer that actions are much more effective than words.
Personal Life
Mother:
Izumi Tachikawa
Contrary to popular belief, female mantises don't necessarily devour their mate and is a trait developed my mantises bred in captivity. Izumi had the roughly same quirk as her daughter but could transform from having four arms and improved eyesight and nothing more. Alive and working from home.
Father:
Bruce Tachikawa
American-Japanese descent, Bruce had become a hero who came to Japan to return to his homeland on a whim and wound up staying there after finding love with Izumi. Possesses a quirk that can turn body to become as diamond in both density and color, going under the name Glass Cannon but has since retired and rarely uses his quirk while as a police officer.
Siblings: N/A
Extended family: N/A
History: Mei was born without a Quirk as most are but was also born without something else: vocal cords. Her parents were concerned and went out of their way to try and give her a voice but the cost to do so was very costly. It wasn't impossible but it was a dream that was pretty far away. Mei did not seem to mind. She was as normal as could be without a voice, choosing to use a tablet or somesuch to communicate...or by hugging. Mei loved to hug.
Her quirk manifested and soon, she was gifted with a small voice. It didn't allow her to speak normally but did allow her to make sounds and single-syllable words. It was very weird for her to have a voice; she had grown so used to not having a voice that it had become customary for her parents of helpers to convey Mei's actions. SHe was happy but still chose to let her actions speak. It wasn't unusual for her to suddenly get bullied for her rather new and unusual appearance. Most were welcoming but others weren't so tolerant. They oftentimes judged how she didn't talk and wondered why she never spoke up against them, finding her hugging strange and gross. SHe wasn't so much hurt by insults to her appearance or her lack of voice but rather the assumption that she'd turn to villainy with a look like hers.
That was the last thing she wanted. She wanted to do good. All the heroes she saw did such good things and sometimes without even so much as a voice. But their actions spoke loud and clear to her. That was when she decided to pour all her efforts into becoming a hero because you don't need a voice to inspire others. She honed her skills on her own but knew she'd need the extra help. U.A. was a place she knew would be willing to take in an aspiring hero like herself.
And so she enrolled with loads ambition and the action needed to achieve her dreams. Her voice would be heard through them, after all and that was the way she wanted it.
Season 1
The school year started off quite normal for Mei. She got to be in the homeroom of one of her favorite heroes and she got to meet a whole bunch of students her own age who weren't bothered by her disability. It gave her such joy! The point things changed, however, was when her eyes caught sight of someone in class and in the dorms. Emily Kramer. Normally, she let her device speak for her when she was nervous but Emily's demeanor and how she carried herself made Mei want to speak better. In fact, she wanted to pluck up the courage to do the one thing she had never asked anyone ever in her life; ask someone out.
She had also took part in the school sports festival but did not make it past 1-B student Liza Marigold in the first round but was not upset about losing. It was then that Emily Kramer went up against Liza and triumphed in the following round, making Mei even more smitten.
But she wouldn't be able to do ask her out yet. Not right away, at least. It took a run in with her upperclassman Jack Williams who gave her the confidence she needed to be able to even say anything of the sort to Emily. This encounter would also have her run-in with the villain group dubbed the Damascus Order and its two members Hecatoncheires and Forseti. Jack and herself were able to fend off Hecaton but Forseti defeated Mei with but a single strike. Were it not for Mei's quick-thinking and Quirk, her injuries would have been much worse.
Quirk
Name: Diamond Mantis
Quirk Type: Mutant
Power: All the powers and traits of a mantis and a bit more. When completely still, Mei can disappear into the environment as a part of any nearby object. In this state, she can still move her very insightful compound-like eyes which never miss anything that moves within its sights. Coupled with her extra arms and a hidden pair of legs, Mei can move quite fast with small hooks on her humanoid fingers that allow her to latch onto surfaces if need be.
The abdomen part attached to her backside houses wings (and a second stomach) with which she may fly but are quite delicate and must be folded to keep them safe when not in use. Her raptorial forearms can catch and latch onto targets and prevent them from escaping their grasp once closed or risk great injury. Not only this, these limbs can lash out at lightning speeds with the claw tips used as weapons. These arms are the toughest portion of her body along with her head, both useful as a means of defense as they are diamond tough. The secondary wings that cover her main flying ones are also extremely tough. All three of these parts of her body house insane levels of strength capable of not only withstanding devastating blows and impacts but also capable of inflicting them just as easily.
Moreover, her antennae can pick up on certain sound frequencies that most types of hearing cannot pick up and with her human ears, she is therefore able to distinguish just about every type of soundwave imaginable including heartbeats, echolocation, and ultrasound. Finally, her jaw can become unhinged and hides sizable mandibles on top of her human teeth so not only can she perform pinching bites with them but also possibly consume something roughly the same size as herself...if she ever wanted to, that is.
Supermoves:
Full-Body Phalanx
A move developed during her encounter with Forseti and Hecaton and built upon later. By hardening herself in places around her front, Mei's entire form can withstand a single strike of any magnitude aimed at her front. After use, it cannot be used again for a 10 minute period or it was cause permanent if not fatal damage to her body.
Drawbacks: Despite parts of her anatomy being incredibly tough, the insectoid portions of her body such as her flying wings, abdomen, antennae, extra legs and portions of her segmented hands are extremely delicate and can snap if pressure is applied. If they are damaged, they take a long time to repair if not treated. Her eyes are considerably less effective during the night instead relying on her antennae for moving about.
Fighting Style: Mei is one that tends to be patient in combat, waiting for her opponents to make the first move then countering with her lightning quick strikes from her forelimbs or retreating using her wings or more likely her legs to create greater distance. She does not put herself at risk often, choosing to keep her rather delicate body intact. If she does decide to put herself at risk, her forelimbs will close upon her intended target and she may resort to both biting and kicking as well as grip with the arms which are rather strong and then let go.
