History:
Amber Hertz was born to a loving mother and a distant, but also loving, father. For the majority of Amber's life her Mother was the center of the universe. Fun, charismatic, always warm and gentle she didn't know anyone that she loved as much as her mother and despite never having met her father she loved him for sending her and her mother money so that they could live comfortably. Amber's mother never talked much about her father just repeating that he loved them both very much and had to work far away from home to send them money every month so she never questioned it but it did make her feel sad when she saw other children with their mommy and daddy together at the park or in the store.
When Amber was five she finally grew tired of that feeling and confronted her mother one day while out on a shopping trip. In the middle of the store she asked why she and her father didn't live together like other people's mommy and daddy did and her mother burying her public embarrassment gave her the same response she always had. A dark ugly bolt of rage surged in Amber as she challenged her mother saying that she was lying that if he did love them he'd come during the holidays or on a weekend when there was no work. The scene started to get out of hand Amber's mother was kindly asked to leave the store if she couldn't control her child. Angry and ashamed that her outburst caused such a commotion Amber broke her mother's grip and ran from the store unsure of what to do with the emotions she was feeling. She hated that her mother had lied to her, she hated her father for not ever contacting her or being there, she hated the people who thought it was funny, or weird, or that she was being bad for demanding the truth from her mother, she hated everything but most of all she hated herself for feeling those things in the first place and bringing it up. Amber ran to the nearby park and hid beneath her favorite slide assured that her mommy would come eventually and then she could apologize and that feeling would go away, but her mother never came. She spent a day beneath that slide before a police officer found her tired, cold, hungry and took her to the station for some warmth and food.
When she told them who she was the police just looked at each other with worry. She didn't understand what was going on until an older female police officer came in and knelt down to explain to Amber that last night there was an accident and her mother was hit by a speeding car while looking for her near the grocery store. Amber was wracked with guilt and anger, if she had only told her the truth from the start IT WAS HER FAULT FOR LYING ALL THE TIME. A surge of uncontrollable emotion welled up inside Amber until it burst out in the form of a loud screaming wail throwing herself against the floor and having a tantrum until the strength left her body. When she woke up the police had put her in the office and given her a blanket outside the door they were talking with people from the city welfare department and were actively discussing what to do with Amber. "I want to go home." Amber mumbled rolling over and covering her head with the blanket.
Amber was informed by the people of the welfare department that because her mother was deceased and they couldn't find or contact her father that she'd be moved to a new home and they'd try and find her new family. The way they spoke was so cold and detached from reality, the reality that Amber had known, that she thought they were joking demanding to be taken to her house, with her things, and her mother. This continued until the point where she became belligerent and with the help of a police officer had to be restrained and forced inside of the department vehicle against her will. The department officer warned her that if she continued fighting like this they'd have to put her in prison. Amber was silent the rest of the ride to the welfare facility seething in rage and hatred. Amber was taken in and given a bed and a case number, like a prisoner, she was now property of the facility and her brash defiant attitude would not do her any favors.
Amber would become what was known as a permanent resident of the facility. She had been adopted several times in her four years within the facility and each time she would be returned for uncontrollable emotional outbursts, like a defective doll, and placed back in. Her frequent and unpredictable emotional instability was becoming a liability for the facility as she couldn't be adopted and was a danger to anyone in the facility prompting them to take drastic less than scrupulous or legal measures. Through some back alley dealings it was arranged that Amber would be adopted one final time, going so far as to throw her an ironic farewell party, the staff and residents of the facility willingly subjected her to the worst fate for an unwanted child.
Her new 'guardians' were low level thugs of a crime family who Amber never learned the name of, she was brought in as merchandise even though she was very young. Her fiery temper and outburst earned her beat downs and lock ups in a small closet with no light. For three years she endured the abuse of her 'guardians' while knowing what awaited her even should she survive this torture, eventually her heart was overflowing with darkness, steeped in loathing and condemnation for the world that abandoned and rejected her. From this darkness a curious little creature emerged with inkly black skin, round yellow eyes, and a thirst for the only thing Amber had left to give... her heart. Unable to defend herself Amber fell to the shadow she had summoned removed from her misery and suffering but not entirely dead. Her consciousness left her body and became one with the darkness as her heart was stolen into the void, meanwhile her body faded into a shell, a husk, of its former self and slipped into the twilight what had remained of Amber Hertz was no long present in the world.
Time passed though she could not tell how long, it was existence, as a meek and feeble shadow she collected hearts from others and in return was struck down by the light her heart freed from the darkness and returned to Kingdom Hearts where it would wait until her body was slain in a similar manner. Wearily Amber woke up no longer locked in a tiny closet, her mind was foggy and scrambled but she knew... she wasn't in her world anymore looking up at the horizon of a new world she had never seen before.
