We are shadows is a mystery role play involving the interaction between three races and three factions. The races are as follows
Humans: From the dawn of time to modern days Humans have been the dominant species of the planet. Conquering all beast and lands through sheer numbers and technological superiority what they lack in physical prowess compared to other species they make up for in ingenuity. Among many other short comings such as being mortal, requiring sustenance, rest, and other things to fully functions humans are comprised of multiple parts of genetic code, referred to as DNA this DNA makes them the primary prey for supernatural creatures who seek to assimilate their DNA to stabilize their own. Since the dawn of time Humans have been some creatures prey but never did they expect to encounter a creature like the Vampire and its brood. Since the times of prehistory humanity has had an ancestral fear of the dark because even in prehistoric times the creatures that lurked in the caves would swallow whole beasts of great size and strength. Superstition along with wariness created fanciful tales to scare people but the truth was much more terrifying as the Progenitor Cain emerged and spread his infection around the world. Humans were helpless to fight against the devils that walked the night so they turned to the only rational power that existed at the time, gods. Using the power of faith they believe themselves able to repel the threat of Vampires but until only very recently it was luck or lies told to calm the population that lead to any vampire dying. From unknown origins a group called SAINTS emerged who wielded effective weapons and tactics, though they never made their exploits public they worked tirelessly from the darkness to protect the world of man and allowed it to flourish into the dominant species it is today, now equipped with Ultraviolet weaponry and superior information gathering and tactics SAINTS stands as counter force to any supernatural entity that wishes to threaten humanity.
Ingenuity: Humans are adept at overcoming challenges through technology and implementation, naturally they have access to more technology than other races and are able to think quickly in tight situations
UV Resistance: Humans are very resistant to sunlight and the damage it can cause, unless exposed for long periods of time they will not likely suffer bad damage from being outside
Infection Capable: Humans can be turned through contact with an infected species genetic information, once infected they will become a ghoul and be required to consume similar genetic information to their own (Close family) or waste into nothing
Multitudes: Humans are the most abundant species on the planet and dominate every corner of its surface
Vampires: Similar to humans Vampires have existed roughly since the dawn of time in some form or another but what we most commonly know as a vampire didn't exist properly until the Roman ages. When the species was young and cave dwelling neanderthal stepped out into the sunlight a group of humans rejected leaving the safety of caves and instead went deeper inside the earths warm embrace. There they found a variety of now extinct flora, among them a rare mushroom that when consumed developed parasitic properties binding itself to their DNA changing them at a genetic level. Within a few generations these former humans found that they did not age, they did not need to eat, or sleep, or consume any kind of substance except water but whatever they did choose to consume be it cave dwelling bat or crawling insect the traits of that creature would adapt themselves into their physical form. Additionally they discovered that exposure to sunlight would cause searing pain and blistering if not a fatal burn causing them to combust into flames. The Neo Vampire population stagnated as they soon found themselves able to reproduce naturally, however with none of them growing sick or old they neither lost or gained population, until the day a young boy found himself in the depths of the vampire's domain. Lost and scared the young boy sough out the vampires not knowing what danger they posed, cutting his feet on the rocks and stones along the way. When he arrived the smell of human blood drove the Neo Vampires into a frenzy and they feasted drinking blood from his open wounds. This being their first interaction with a human they found that after they had drank the blood until it stopped bleeding the corpse of the boy still moved, unlike the other animals they had feasted upon, it seemed that the infection that turned them from human into creatures was transmissible through contact with their saliva. The boy existed as a new entity, neither alive nor dead, the first Ghoul and as the first Ghoul or the worlds very first monster he sought out the very thing his body yearned for, a means of completion. The boy left the caves and found his brother awaiting him, in a fit of mad hunger he killed his brother and feasted on his blood completing the transformation from human into the very first modern vampire, the vampire progenitor Cain. Since those ancient times Cain has spread the infection from victim to victim creating ghouls who slaughtered their own family to complete themselves, ghouls who failed and dissolved into a mass of cellls and powerful vampire lords who swear fealty to the worlds first monster as their father, through his expansion alone the population flourished for thousands of years until Humans became aware and started to fight back against the Vampires, mostly to no effect but rarely would a discovery be made that allowed them to wage some kind of meaningful counter offensive, in the modern day Vampires are in hiding and under threat of extinction as scientific discoveries by an organization dedicated to their erasure has yielded potent Ultraviolet weapons.
Vampire Traits
Cellular Manipulation: Vampires can freely manipulate their own cells in any way they choose, from shape, to density, to weight, their bodies are like clay to them and can be changed at any time and point.
Cellular Maneuvering: Vampires can remotely control their own cells if they are not incorporated into their main body any group of cells large enough will generate into their own independent clone of the vampire, a vampire can feed a piece of itself to a ghoul or to an animal to control it as a familiar or Thrall.
Cellular Storage: Vampires can store the genetics of the things that they feed upon, changing their own cells to mirror that of their prey, the more genetic information they have the more pronounced the effect.
Cellular Regeneration: Vampires can heal from any wound even if they are reduced to atoms, the time to heal will be like a normal humans recovery would be but they can instantly regenerate by feeding on prey, the longest time recorded for a full body recovery was nine months
Infertility: Vampires can not reproduce via sexual intercourse, they are completely impotent/baren
Infection Carriers: Vampires can 'procreate' by infecting humans. Upon infection a human will become a ghoul and seek out compatible genetic data, if they acquire it they will become the Child of the vampire who infected them, A child inherits all of the genetic data that the parent had stored in their cells but at a reduced potency.
UV Fatality: Vampires will die if exposed directly to sunlight
Wunderkinder: In recent years, a raid on a facility believed to be the residence of the Progenitor Cain lead to the discovery of a nursery full of infants. When the SAINTS attempted to dispose of these infants figuring them to be turned children they were surprised to learn that the infants did not carry a weakness to sunlight despite having every other quality of a vampire. Named Miracle Kids or Wunderkinder by the professor who studied them. These children were placed in orphanages and foster homes controlled by SAINT affiliated churches and allies, some even agents themselves or retired commanders. They have been monitored their whole life for signs of aggression but seemingly have not had hunger pains or shown any tendency to feed on human blood. Upon reaching maturity a Wunderkinder is given a choice, they are offered a position in SAINTS as a secret unit known as The Shadows an anti vampire unit of vampires, or they can live under monitor for the rest of their lives, aware that if they ever feast on a human they'd be put down. Some chose servitude, others incarceration, some tried to flee but in the end there is no escaping your true nature.
Wunder Traits
Infection Immune: Wunder are completely immune to any form of infection from any infected creature
Procreation capable: Wunder can procreate through sexual intercourse
Infection Recessive: Wunder can not pass on the infection to other creatures
Adaptive: Wunder can exponentially increase their own genetic information by feeding on others and assimilating their genetic data copying the traits of any other race
UV resistant: Wunder are not fatally vulnerable to UV light but do experience mild discomfort and head aches
Variant: Wunder are the most volatile when it comes to DNA and will change and grow based on what they feed on, it is possible to feed themselves into another species entirely.

Civs: Humans/Vampires/Wunder: Unaffiliated individuals who have nothing to do with the conflict between SAINTS and Vampires even if they themselves are Vampire or part, they just want to be left alone and live as normal of a life as possible
SAINTS: The Supernatural Activity Investigation Negotiation and Termination Service is an ancient society of humans and non human entities solely dedicated to the preservation of Humanity as the dominant species on earth. Throughout generations of Vampires there have been numerous brood that neither achieved vampirism or can claim humanity, these creatures are watched over and if possible given protection and employment within SAINTS for hostile entities unable to be reasoned with there is no other choice but elimination. SAINTS is comprised of four branches Agents who walk the line between darkness and light acting as the middleman of the organization, Scholars who do research and fund tech development to better protect and fight threats, Terminators who hunt the creatures of the darkness and lastly the Shadows who are unknown to the other units and operate as free agents independent of the rest of the organization
Vampire Aristocracy: Vampires and their brood are classified by their level of power from how many times they've fed, the top is the Progenitor vampire who can not be unseated, Cain, below him as his Vampire Lords, then Vampire Nobles, then Vampire Commoners, and finally Sub Vampires such as Ghouls and Thralls both undead minions unworthy of the title Vampire. Regardless of your caste a Vampire's roll is to first and foremost protect their society, that means not endangering anyone with their behavior while all vampires are autonomous breaking this rule will lead to expulsion and ultimately death.

The Mythological Infected(Myths): The first of their kind, consumers of the Mythological Fungus, and bearers of the first infection, this long extinct race adapted into the many supernatural creatures we know today, they are the precursor of all creature races and monsters
Ghouls: Humans infected with the mythological parasitic infection upon becoming infected they gain immunity to pain, enhanced senses, enhanced physical prowess, and a wasting disease that will consume them if they do not either consume similar genetic material to their own and become completed vampires or genetic material belonging to the same species as them, but the infection can only be delayed for so long. If a ghoul eats enough non related corpses it will become a permanent undead known as a Lich who retains all the abilities of a Ghoul but loses the cellular degeneration.
Thralls: A ghoul fed a piece of their vampire parent, Thralls are walking corpses with no will of their own, or at least ability to act on that will, they are completely subservient to their parent
DireX: Dires are animals that were fed upon by the Myths that completed after eating enough of their own. Gigantic versions of their original species with enhanced traits Dires are creatures of legend with barely any existing in modern day, killed via habitat destruction.
Xthrope: Thropes are the inverse of dires, a myth that fed on enough of a specific species slowly found themselves able to manifest as that species, their infection now bore that species and allowed them to transfer their bestial genetics to the next generation. Thropes are technically a subvariant of vampire though they're not entirely the same, they can transform into bestial forms or simply manifest bestial features, they aren't fatally vulnerable to UV exposure in their human forms but unlike Vampires lack true immortality, they can only regenerate by feeding
