Emily didn’t often go to this part of U.A. She rarely visited Mister Ritter (Giga Bite-sensei!) outside of class last year. She had been a good student, sure, but Emily wanted to believe that it wasn’t always a bad thing to be called into a teacher’s office.
Unless, that is, the teacher was Nocturne-sensei. Ever since Emily had first set foot in U.A.’s halls, she had heard horror stories about the scary Dusk Hero who taught the third-years. And now, for reasons that Emily didn’t dare to think about, he had called her to his office out of the blue. There were a lot of things Emily was worrying about now, but she sure wasn’t going to be late!
She would be early. Twenty minutes early, in fact. Emily took a deep breath, then rapped three times on the door with one of her metal arms.

The door would rush open as Yoo was on the other side ready to walk out. "Oh?" He was surprised. Looking down at his watch... She was early as hell. He spoke with a few few first years, and even had a few detentions with their local knuckleheads. The 3rd years weren't as wild, but had just as much attitude. The seconds years... Well, he hadn't gotten a chance to feel them out. Despite being so busy, Nocturne was well involved with the student body. He was no Thunderclap, and he certainly was no Gigabite, but he was a pillar of the staff all the same. Those who came to him, yielded results, except it was Yoo who reached out this time. It was partially due to Ivan's only contact outside of family in London, was actually Emily. He didn't want to pry too much about their relationship, but he was able to see her debut at last year's sports festival. That alone was enough to pique his interest and become his main reason for contacting her. She may have been in the A bracket class, but if he could be selfish, he'd sneak the promising(and low-maintenance) students into his class. In all honestly A and B meant nothing after year 2. In their 3rd year students were to focus on honing themselves for their internships and the real world. Based on what he'd seen and heard, Emily would be a perfect candidate to tutor and touch base with, so he would.
The dusk hero would take a step back, and allow her entry in his office. It was minimalistic and clean, much like a dojo. He even had a few ornamental swords hung up for "decoration."(they were just spares) "Didn't know you'd sneak up on me so early." He'd smirk. "Most runts are too chicken to even face me. In that sense, I'd say you've already won half the battle."

She wasn’t expecting Nocturne-sensei to open the door! Emily fell back on her instincts and threw up a salute to greet the third-year teacher with an all-too serious face. ”R-Reporting for duty, Nocturne…sensei?” She lost the appetite for the gesture partway through. What she had heard about him seemed to live up to the man himself. He didn’t seem impressed at all. Even his office was… well, it didn’t seem like an office. Emily couldn’t put her finger on it.
Wait… runts?! But, they were teenagers! Could- could Nocturne-sensei talk about them like that? Emily’s words were caught between her throat and her brain - a deadly combination. She finished walking inside Nocturne’s office, shutting the door behind her. The girl was clearly looking for anything in the room to hold onto, other than Nocturne himself, who her attention was eventually forced to settle on. Once Emily took a seat, she rested her arms in her lap, trying not to fidget too much. ”So, umm… why did you want to see me, sir?”

”R-Reporting for duty, Nocturne…sensei?”
She was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, the opposite of his drooping scowl, and tired glare. "Duty... right." This was just a meeting, and hopefully an assessment of some sort. She gave off a positive air, and seemed like the type to stay diligently in her studies. Nocturne would take a seat, welcoming her to do the same. When she asked the reason of this requested visit, Yoo couldn't help but chuckle. "Come now. You're are a 2nd year now. It's about time you begin investing in yourself and speaking with different heroes within the faculty anyway. Year 1 was just about you getting your feet wet. Some students lead a bit further due to skill, some due to grades, and some due to real-world experience. Regardless of how much they show their strengths they still are too new to understand the weight of their feats. " He leaned back into his chair and slicked his hair back before continuing. " Year 2 is what I consider the cocoon phase of your hero journey. What you do now greatly effects your third year here.

Emily quickly sat down, eager to get to the point. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate the time that she was spending with Nocturne-sensei here, far from it. He struck her as the kind of teacher who didn't want to waste time, and more than that, she didn't want to get on his bad side. Even in this moment, Emily could feel how scary the Dusk Hero could be if he wanted to. It was strange to have these impressions about a teacher; the teacher of class 3-A at that.
The girl remained quiet, nodding intently at Nocturne-sensei's words. They made sense. They made a lot of sense, actually. She felt that all of those things applied to her. Was that why he wanted to speak with her?... did Nocturne-sensei know her Gramps? Blimey, had they been talking with each other?!
Right. Emily needed to respond. Something about a cocoon? No pressure, Kramer... Emily sheepishly tapped her index fingers in front of her. She did her best to maintain eye contact with Nocturne-sensei, but now her mind was racing. "I, I see. So..." Suddenly Emily's eyes lit up, and the rest of her body followed suit.. She clenched her fists, which seemed ready to pump into the air depending on what he said.
"Do you know King, Nocturne-sensei? I was hoping to get an internship under him! Could you make that happen?"
Nailed it.

Nocturne was taken aback. Not by her question but by the purity of it all. She was quite straightforward in nature, in speech and in mannerisms. Among more hard-boiled students and even the more zealous students, there those like her. "Hmmph." It was completely reactionary to her as a person and not her response. It would actually take him a moment to absorb what she actually said. "I'm surprised you haven't pulled him to the side after class. Do you find your homeroom teacher intimidating... or is taking the big step for an internship what's intimidating you?" Shrugging his shoulders, he brought his arms to his sides. An eyebrow arched, he'd push a bit more. "Yeah the sport festival had all the fanfare and razzle dazzle, but the real debut is when you hit those streets and patrol."

For a moment, Emily blanked. She could've done that all along?! Even if she tried to hide the realization, no one could get anything past Nocturne-sensei. She threw up her hands in alarm, pushing them forward like she was coming up against an invisible wall. "I-I-I didn't think I could! He's, umm, always so busy, you know, being a Hero and all, and a teacher, and I'm just a student, he probably has... a lot of other things... to take care of." By the time Emily had finished her ramble, she was tapping her index fingers together. She dared not look Nocturne-sensei in the eye then.
She swallowed, then after a pregnant pause, met the Dusk Hero's eyes again. Emily clenched her hands, holding them in a vertical formation against her chest. There was that nauseating passion again. "Yes, sir! It's what I've always wanted ta do! I saw all kinds of things whenever I followed my Gramps around!"
That was fine to do, right? Japan didn't frown on that, did it? After all, that was what hero internships were, right? Just extra steps. Emily couldn't help it. She giggled with bubbly twee. "I'd have done it earlier if I could. But, I haven't!" She quickly saluted to Nocturne-sensei. He needed to know that she was serious about this! "I was a good student during my first year, Mister Nocturne-sensei! Scout's honor!"

Yoo thought about a few things when she responded. The first was why was Emily so pure. It felt as thought he were talking to a child. Just who exactly was Grail raising? He'd have to talk to him and Ivan's dad as well. To be fair Emily was listed as Ivan's emergency contact. He honestly couldn't see how...they were "related" and chose to ignore it. For now he had more pressing things to talk about. "I'll go ahead and talk to King for you about an internship. " He'd clasp his hands together. He only knew what he could surmise, or what he could see. From what he'd seen Emily, "Are you adjusting well? Would you be opposed to going on a patrol with me?"

Ad- adjusting? Adjusting to what? Had she done something wrong? Oh no, had she screwed up?! Nocturne-sensei saw everything, especially what students like Emily didn't see. She had totally screwed up. She knew that this was about something! Thankfully for both of them, Nocturne-sensei agreeing to talk to King pushed Emily's attention past this current anxiety track and towards his next question. She blinked, almost unable to believe that he was asking her this. Not out of disrespect or shame, no! Of course not! She never thought she would get to go patrolling with the Dusk Hero!
"Yes, sir! I-I mean, no, Nocturne-sensei. I would not mind going on patrol with you. If it is possible, I would like to go patrolling with you, Nocturne-sensei." Though Emily was perfectly on the ball with her reactions (never mind the passion with which she emoted them), her nerves were as clear as her silver hair. She was utterly terrified of him. Though the expression in the girl's eyes were screaming yes, they were filled equally with an existential dread for what she stood to lose if she disappointed him. She couldn't afford to be thought less of.

There was a lurking feeling. He wanted to be wrong, but he couldn't quite shake the feeling that maybe this girl was a bit too soft. Her personality and behavior outside of the festival... even her being timid in this work-study process. So many kids leapt right in or were more forward in their endeavors. He'd test her... It was the main reason of him making this request. Sure another intern couldn't hurt, it would only give his agency more manpower, but he'd fully respect her wishes to try an internship out with King. With a few clicks on his phone, he'd set a reminder to make sure to put in an internship inquiry on Emily's behalf. A part of him felt a bit wrong misleading her, but it was important to iron an important detail like this out early. Better now than when she was a third year with the yips. "Yes, sir! I-I mean, no, Nocturne-sensei. I would not mind going on patrol with you. If it is possible, I would like to go patrolling with you, Nocturne-sensei."In response, he- "Good. I won't get in the way of your studies. We will go on saturday, when you are free. I'll also be sure to put your letter of interest in King's mail box before the day is up. Sound like a plan?" He stood up and offered a handshake. Nestled in his palm was a black business card. It had his information on it, as well as the address of the agency. "I'll do a few rounds with the agency then set aside some time to patrol with you. We'll meet 9pm sharp. "

Emily's eyes became like saucers. She nearly hugged herself, then stopped. Heat coursed through her body, and she relented, shrugging her torso to force herself to relax. Once she had composed herself (save for the smile burned into the girl's features), Emily stood up, meeting Nocturne's handshake with an iron grip. It was just like her Gramps, filled with conviction and enthusiasm for what she hoped would one day be her job.
"Yes sir, Mister Nocturne-sensei! I won't let you down, sir! 9 P.M. sharp!"
Emily is quick to leave, so quick in fact, that she makes a 180 after opening the office door but before running out. Emily does her best impression of a formal Japanese bow to Nocturne. The results are... mixed. "I won't let you down!"
Then she leaves, practically running out into the halls. This was going to be great!
