Basic Info
Homeland Name: Tirnanog
Homeland Region: Europe
Homeland Location: The Channel Islands
Homeland Appearance: The Islands of Tirnanog range from mountainous and rocky, to wooded meadows, to bogs and swamplands, and hilly grasslands. There are four main islands that act as indisputable homes of each clan; Smok, an island containing a massive inactive volcano named after one of the most infamous dragons of legend; Necropolis, an island that is littered with the ruins of an ancient kingdom lost to history; Bargest, an hilly and largely grassland like island that was once owned by the dragons and renamed to the origin name of Goblins after the Goblinic Revolt; and Faerelm, the home island of all fae and where the Court of Oberon and Titania reside with a massive tree sits atop a plateau with the sea far below the courts.
Homeland Description: Tirnanog is a set of islands located within the Channel Islands. There the King and Queen of the Fae; Oberon and Titania watch over the various clans that occupy the islands. Each of the islands are protected by a Glamour that ultimately makes humans consider the areas where these islands are located at as rocky no sail zones, often times forcing them away with the enchantments and illusions. As a result; it allows for the monsters of European Folklore to co-exist in the modern world without humans bothering them.
Monsters Living Here: Dragons, Goblins, Bugbears, Brownies, Dwarves, Elves, Nymphs, Faeries, Kobolds, Lizardmen, Skeletons, Liches, Dulahanns, Hobgoblins, Drakes, Will O Wisps, Ghouls, Zombies, Revenants, Sprites.
Monster History/Culture: Tirnanog is known as the Fae realm in many European folklore, though it goes by many other names depending on the country in general. Originally, Tirnanog was defined as any unclaimed land that lie in between the realms of the humans, but as time passed, and the reach of mankind began to encroach upon the monsters of European folklore, the Autumn King, Oberon; as well as his mistress Titania proclaimed that the monsters of Europe were to gather in The Channel Islands; a location in between what is now Modern day United Kingdom, and France to create a sanctuary for any and all Fae. A mystical enchantment; also known by the local monsters as the "Glamour" was placed on several of the islands of the channel; creating areas that were considered too dangerous to sail by modern standards; and from there Tirnanog was pronounced.
As time progressed, the fae and monsters of european folklore eventually settled in the various islands of Tirnanog and eventually created clans among themselves. Ultimately, Oberon and Titania; two mythical figureheads of European Folklore were selected as the King and Queen of Tirnanog; and even to this day they rule the islands; with Oberon being a stern and dismissal king; and Titania being a whimsical but compassionate Queen. Often times the pair are called to settle disputes between the Clans, but outside of that; they generally keep an eye upon the world of humans more than ruling the islands.
The islands of Tirnanog are split into Clans; with each Clan ultimately consisting of either Dragonic, Fae, Undead, or Goblinic races of Monsters. Each Clan's Cultures often reflect the values of each clan. While no clan is allowed to claim more than their fair share of islands; it's not uncommon for medieval style games or recreations of old folklore to be used as a means to settle disputes. These can range from Siege games; to battles of wit; generally with the defender choosing the game, and individuals representing as champions in these games. Despite this; there are four islands that each clan considers their home turf in a sense; and that no other clan can lay claim to. These islands are the Dragonic Island of Smok; the Undead Island of Necropolis; the Goblinic island of Bargest; and the Fae island of Faerelm
The Dragonic Clans are beings who have descended, revere, or are dragon like in nature. Often times it's a hierarchical society that focus around the Dragons as Dukes, and all of the other races as serfs. It's not uncommon to see a high amount of hunters, miners, and artisans within these clan islands. They are often bitter towards the Goblinic Clans; but show a degree of respect as to not directly insult them or violate the rules established by the King and Queen of Tirnanog. The other serf and servant races are adorned with the colors of their Duke; with many Dukes giving additional decor to their servants as a means to show wealth as well. To the Dragonic races; flaunting wealth is often a sign of respect towards their duke; and it's not uncommon for serfs and servants to become extremely competitive with other families. It's not uncommon for tea parties, balls, feasts, and festivals to take place on Dragonic Clan Islands; as each family attempts to one up the other. It's not uncommon for tributes to be collected when entering Dragnonic islands; though if one is strong or influential enough they can instead pass without tribute, as simply the act of them visiting can be seen as positive in a dragon's family. Dragonic islands are usually rocky and mountainous in nature; though they almost always have a fortress or castle occupy the island somewhere. Smok is their home island; given it's name in reference to the most infamous of all dragons; and is also the only island that is considered truly neutral for all dragonic familys. The island is a massive inactive volcano; with it being inaccessible by anyone except dragons which can fly in from the mouth of the volcano. It's considered a extreme honor to visit the island as a non-dragon.
The Undead Clans are beings such as Will'o'Wisps, Duliahans, Skeletons, Revenants, and other creatures that have returned from the dead into unlife. Many members of this clan are often controlled by Lords such as Liches, Skeleton Kings, or Necromancers; beings who keep the undead under their strict control. You'll find that stone architecture in the form of tombs, catacombs, or temples. For many of these undead; value is placed on items of significance rather than of wealth. The Lords of these clans often make deals with other beings in exchange for them becoming members of their clan when they pass on; though this is highly dependent upon the being in particular. The undead often times take islands that are swamplands, bogs, or wasteland like in general. These environments seem unwanted due to their nature; but they are rich in magical resources used for potions or rituals; and due to the nature of the undead they are the only ones who can collect these resources for the other clans without much trouble. It's not uncommon for other clans to request potions, tonics, or medicines from the Undead Clans; as they have no need for such things ultimately. Necropolis is their home island; a island that holds the ruins of an ancient kingdom long forgotten by history.
The Goblin Clans were originally considered the lowest of the low, and were often serfs to other clans. Goblins, Brownies, and dwarves were often slaves to the dragonic clans or others that were stronger; however eventually they rebelled as the Clans began to use them exclusively to settle disputes. The Fae King and Queen calmed this revolt quickly, by establishing the Goblinic Clan; which allowed them to own islands if they could win in a game of the defender's choosing. Using their wit; they were able to own their own islands against both the Undead and Dragonic Clans. While the wounds of such a disgrace has made the Gobliic clan the least approved of the four clans; they none the less are an invaluable group; often times offering unique services to the other clans in exchange for goods or other services. It's not uncommon for one to see many of the Goblinic races on the islands of other clans for business; with many of them taking pride in their capabilities and skill. The Goblinic clans are structured into guilds based on services provided; and the leaders of each guild ultimately form a council that keeps all trade and services relatively fair. Their homes are often times in hovels, stumps, or small mounds. One should always be aware of attempts at scamming when on these islands; and should never assume anything is free. Leaders of this clan are often called Masters due to their mastery of their arts or service. Bargest is their home island; a relatively plain an uninhabited looking island that is covered in hills and grasslands from a distance; but is in fact a very occupied location as no goblinic race prefer to build above ground.
The Fae Clans are beings such as fairies, Sprites, elves, and Nymphs that often times live in harmony with nature. Their clans follow a more free willed lifestyle; with many fae often living carefree lives. All of the members of this clan is often in charge of maintaining the Glamour that surrounds the islands; so many Clans do not bother them. As a result, this clan ultimately can live or visit any of the other clan Islands without tribute or disputes; though many know the golden rule to never tell their true and full name to a Fae; as that often can allow one to control them. Islands controlled by the Fae Clans are often very beautiful; with plenty of trees and flowers. Food made here is usually extremely sweet; though if eaten fresh is often addictive to some degree. It's not uncommon for food to be served a day after picking to allow the Fae magics to recede; and many fae will often warn their customers of the nature of their food. Eating meat and hunting is strictly forbidden on such islands. Their islands are often the first that anyone encounters when entering Tirnanog for the first time; as their islands are usually located on the borders of the region. Faerelm is their main island; which sits atop a plateau island with a massive tree known as the Tree of Souls sitting atop it. There the palace of the Summer and Winter Court are located; as well as Oberon and Titania's residence.
