820 lbs
Physical Appearance:
Klaus is an enormous humanoid beetle-like creature. He barely resembles a human anymore, permanently transformed by his Mutant Quirk at birth. His arms are the most pronounced, armored with the thickest carapaces out of his entire hide. Due to their size, Klaus generally walks with his fists forward on the ground, similar to an ape. His large, bulbous eyes are green in color, and glow a bright green in dim light, or in the absence of light altogether. Klaus is incredibly muscular, his entire body bulging with inhuman strength beneath his grisly carapace. Aside from his eyes - and of course his dangling antennae - Klaus’ greatest feature is without a doubt the massive pincer-like mandibles hanging from his jaw that give the Pro Hero his name. Klaus is an altogether monstrous-looking person, who would likely have no place in society outside of his current career.
Civilian Clothes:
Given that Klaus is a hulking bug-man, he does not wear any clothing at all while on the job. At formal occasions, however, such as in the classroom or at school functions, Klaus will wear a bright-red necktie.
Hero Outfit:
N/A.
Personality
Bad Habits:
Klaus is often too sincere for his own good. He is quick to trust, eager to believe in the ideal world that he is fighting for. While he is certainly not gullible, Klaus' generosity and mercy may easily be taken advantage of, as he will turn his back on those who have surrendered, believing such behavior to be in good faith. He also strives to understand and help everyone, even if such appeals to his good nature are simply an act, be it to avoid punishment or to exploit him while his guard is lowered. No matter how many times Klaus has had his expectations of others proven wrong, he continues to believe that everyone is capable of becoming a better person.
Goal:
Klaus is a simple man with simple motivations. He wants to raise up others who do not see themselves as worthy of their responsibilities, or feel as rejected and loathed as Klaus had in his youth. Though he takes pride in being one of the Top Ten in Japan, Klaus is much more concerned with being the best role model that he can be for Musutafu City. and anyone he meets while on the job.
General Personality:
Klaus is a gentle soul, one who abhors violence in all its forms. He is of the belief that whatever difficulties one may be going through, it can be resolved with peaceable means, without things ever coming to blows. Klaus is by no means hesitant to raise his fist when the necessity arises, but he treats such methods as a last resort. He is a warrior of the heart and the mind over the body, despite what his form may suggest. It is merely what he was born with; nothing more.
When it comes to Klaus’ duties with the Koriban House of Hope, he is surprisingly forthcoming and insightful with hearing the community’s various plights, trivial or otherwise. Though he is no trained psychologist, Klaus’ experience with the human element in his breadth of social work, as a volunteer in a myriad of projects as well as a civil servant across Europe (and more recently in Japan) has afforded him a certain understanding of how to speak with people in a respectful and understanding way that no amount of studying in a university would have given him. He takes great pride in helping the people of Musutafu - nay, anyone he has the pleasure of helping - come to terms with themselves, though more importantly, come to terms with themselves as individuals.
Klaus is a man of some faith, and so times do arise where he may question the validity of his faith, or if he is believing in something not worth believing in. His true fear, however, lies in the possibility of not leaving a positive influence on the impressionable youth of U.A. Academy. Moreover, he worries of not properly reaching out to those who need help, and having to live with those consequences. Few are the pains greater than the guilt of what could have been, or ought to have been, if he could have just helped someone be stronger than they think themselves to be.
Klaus is a philanthropist at heart, one who loves humanity in all its facets and is loathe to see it in pain. He is the first to step in to help someone and the last person to leave after everything has been taken care of. Though some write this thinking off as naive or simple-minded, Klaus genuinely enjoys putting others before himself. After all, it is easy to do so when you are a hideous bug-man, and everyone else is not.
Personal Life:
Mother:
Edna Ritter, Housewife. Deceased.
Father:
Godfrey Ritter, Grocer. He is Quirkless, and lives on the Ritter homestead in the outskirts of Hamburg.
Siblings:
N/A. Klaus was their first child, and their last.
Extended Family:
Most of the extended Ritter family is dead, taken in an near-apocalyptic incident where Faust, the now departed leader of the Lost Reich Villain Gang, attempted to destroy Munich. Klaus believes that one of his cousins, Maria, survived, though has been unable to pursue the matter further. His older cousin by six years, Maria Ritter was Geist, one of Germany's prominent Pro Heroes at the time. The world believed her dead, erecting a memorial in the Königsplatz square, dedicated to her and the other Pro Heroes who were lost that day.
History:
The Ritter family was not an overly prosperous one. Though they were not so low as to be submerged in poverty, they did not have an easy time for themselves either. Klaus’ parents managed to make ends meet, and a little more than that. It was a simple life in Hamburg… relatively. Soon, Klaus’ mother, Edna, was with child, and they could begin a family together. Her husband, Godfrey, was hesitant, not at all certain that the two of them would be able to support a child, be it girl or boy, with their circumstances. But, it was what Edna wanted, and he was not one to deny his beloved. They would make it work, one way or another.
When the fateful day finally came, the baby that sprang forth from Edna’s womb was nothing like anything either of them had expected, let alone wanted. The baby was hardly a baby at all, but a grotesque thing covered in a grimy-black carapace that could only be described as God’s mistake. Suffice it to say, Edna did not survive the horrific experience, but the “child” was hardy, and had no problem emerging from his mother. Needless to say, Godfrey reviled the creature and everything it stood for. They were going to have named the child Klaus if it had been a boy, but Godfrey wanted nothing to do with the murderer of his wife, and certainly not one that looked so monstrous.
Klaus quickly found himself on the streets, quickly taking to digging through trash and filth for what amounted to sustenance for him. Though Klaus hardly learned how to speak before he was thrown out into the streets as an infant, he developed a keen intellect, and a sense for danger. He learned how to take care for himself, and more importantly, he learned about the world that he had been thrust into, without so much as being told why, or why he was loathed so for that matter.
In spite of his circumstances, Klaus developed into an extraordinarily open individual, gladly helping complete strangers with as close as a smile to his face as someone like him could have, taking little if anything in return for his deeds. Klaus wasn’t sure what it was that had driven him to be this way; perhaps being thrust into such a grim upbringing himself taught him the value of blind compassion, among other lessons he learned along the way. It did not take long for his story to reach the ears of U.A., and he was promptly invited to the prestigious academy in Japan. How could he say no to something like that?
Klaus became Giga Bite, a name he certainly grew into during his time at the school. He grew exponentially compared to other students, no doubt in part to his bug-like physiology and their extremely rapid development period. Though Klaus quickly came to tower over even the largest of his teachers, the young teenager had a sense of courtesy and propriety that few his age could muster for even a few moments, let alone constantly. Klaus became something of a celebrity for his class, if not for his bewildering personality relative to his appearance, than for the sheer effort he put into getting to know others and broadening his horizons at U.A. Though he failed quite utterly in trying out for most of the sports teams, he was only the happier for putting in the effort in the first place. He embodied many of the characteristics that U.A. sought to instill in its graduates. Klaus Ritter graduated as the U.A. Class President, and ostensibly candidate for the next Symbol of Peace.
Instead, as soon as he received his Hero License, Klaus set himself on a world tour, helping those he crossed paths with, and even taking down the occasional villain that showed their face, either for some local incident or in a misguided attempt to stop the newly made Pro Hero. Expectations for him were dashed, yet no less proud of the direction that the Beetle Hero had taken for his first steps into the spotlight. Giga Bite became a worldwide sensation over the next several years, not the least of which in Hamburg when he finally came to his home of Hamburg as his last stop. Klaus tried to find his father, but to little avail. He had either moved on from the town, or had made a point of never facing him again, for any number of reasons. Though it saddened him greatly (and to an extent, still does), Klaus forged ahead to new horizons.
Giga Bite eventually settled back in Musutafu as a community hero. There was something inescapably rewarding for Klaus when it came to enlightening the generations of tomorrow and today. He opened a Pro Hero Rescue Agency out of a small honey cafe that he attended in his youth. Christened the Koriban House of Hope, it came to be a staple of Musutafu as a place where anyone could go for safety and comfort from the woes of their lives... especially villainous lives. Of Japan's various villainous elements, Giga Bite seems to take particular umbrage with the New Japan Prefectural Development and its vigilante ilk. THey are still welcome at the House... but only just.
Quirk
Name:
Megamorphosis!
Quirk Type:
Mutant
Power:
The user possesses the characteristics of a humanoid beetle, permanently covering their entire body in a dark, chitinous hide. This gives the user greatly enhanced durability, and significant superhuman strength. The user’s eyes now see on multiple light spectra, allowing them to see in the dark, and making it impossible for them to be blinded by bright lights. The user can also speak to insects and similar creatures in their native tongue, and understand them in kind. Although wings develop on the user’s back later in life, they develop poorly on males, and as a result, this user cannot fly, though can still launch themselves great distances through the air with his super strength.
Supermoves:
Giga Drive: The Peacemaker
Giga Bite's signature attack is a perfected "roundhouse punch", one that channels the totality of the Pro Hero's inhuman bug-like strength into a single strike. The thousands of pounds of force behind such an attack is enough to KO even the sturdiest of combatants, rendering most direct confrontations a moot point.
Giga Drive: Flytrap
The restraining technique from which only a handful of Villains have been able to escape. Giga Bite brings his arms into a bear hug, though the actual threat of the attack is not his arms, but his massive exterior mandibles that clamp down on the target with many times the force of his Peacemaker technique. As such, it is nearly impossible to overcome this threshold without an unprecedented level of strength. Giga Bite must instead be offset by an external factor, such as a distraction that demands his attention, the target using an unconventional method to escape (such as phasing through Giga Bite's body), or Giga Bite being knocked off balance by another combatant.
Giga Drive: Shield of Hope
Nearly as iconic as Giga Bite's strength is his ability to shield others from harm. Using his massive arms, and especially his enormous hulking body, Giga Bite becomes a shell within which he will shield others from harm. It is a signature Rescue technique, of which Klaus is a proud graduate.
Drawbacks:
As a result of their new physiology, the user can no longer mate; as they are male, they are also incapable of producing offspring. As a giant bug, being submerged in water is extremely dangerous, as their carapace prevents them from swimming properly, and they will sink like a stone. Extreme levels of heat are also a hazard, as the user will literally be cooked alive inside their chitinous armor. The user is also incredibly heavy, making it difficult for them to properly balance themselves in situations where dexterity and grace is required, and may be prone to being knocked over.
Fighting Style:
Klaus’ manner of fighting for many years was quite unrefined. He simply bowled through enemies and obstacles with his overpowering strength and size, seldom needing to think twice about how to apply his Quirk in a situation. Though over time, Klaus has become more focused in how he uses his strength, or whether he uses it at all. In spite of his intimidating appearance and size, Klaus fights almost exclusively defensively, only attacking his opponent if he has no other option or if he needs to defend himself from someone capable of hurting him. He will usually restrain an opponent with pinning techniques, or use quick, devastating strikes to resolve the conflict as quickly possible. Klaus is especially notorious for ending all of the combats he has been in in under ten seconds.
