Moll let him get himself situated with his thoughts as she listened to him speak, then once she got the time to respond she scratched her head for a moment. What can they do to start with in this war? As of now, they don't exactly have much in terms of protecting their home from invaders, but then again, who would visit a cottage out in the middle of scenic natural nowhere? Still, it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
"Not much for today, really. I can get the garden growing and the fencing started. Then once that's built up, we can get you started on sharpening your skill with your elemental affinities. There's a lot you can do." She then moved her hair a little bit, only to feel her stomach growl as she moved her hand softly onto her belly. "Mmn... I think it's time for us to eat something." She got up and placed her tome back onto the strap on her hip, heading into the kitchen to see what they have. "What kind of food do we have in this day and age?"

Brant nodded a few times as Moll spoke. It was a lot for him to take in, and the revelation that gods were real... on top of magic... or magick, was just more than he had planned. He watched as she walked past him, talking about food before she vanished into the kitchen. He took a deep breath and let out an equally deep sigh. "This is a lot, Gabs," He said to the cat before standing up, scooping the feline up simultaneously. She only protested a little before settling into Brant's arms as he followed Moll into the kitchen.
"I don't have that much, and nothing fancy. There are some cans with food in the cabinet over there, along with some bread..." He replied, pointing to a cabinet over by the stove. "I think there are a few vegetables in the fridge and some meat I got yesterday, bacon. Don't accidentally take the cat food, but suppose Gabs will need to have her dinner soon anyway; I try to eat at the same time as her. That way, she won't try to steal my food with the same determination." He did not mention that he spent more of his money to ensure Gabs had nice food than he was making sure he had it.

"That's a good idea. Don't need any unwanted habits with our companions, eh?"
Moll did find some of the things he spoke about once she got into the cabinet, setting the cat food aside and handling the bread, bacon and vegetables of choice. It was pretty easy for her to make a sandwich for herself, allowing space for her companion to make one for himself as well. She was a little off-put with him having fewer resources for food than she would have liked, but she can fix that in time. For now, she has to eat something.
The woman allowed him to prepare his and his cat's food while she got herself a glass of water to complete her meal for the time. Once things were ready, she'd simply take some time to move on to a table near the kitchen so she can sit down and eat. At least this can allow them to ponder on a few softer things while they fill up their stomachs.

As she quickly noticed, Brant did not have much in terms of food items, which also would account for his skinniness. He collected a bowl which had the name "Lady Gabs" stamped on it. He calmly opened the can with cat food, with the cat insistently rubbing against his legs, meowing, bumping her head against his calf, and making a general spectacle of herself. Brant was used to this, so he did not react when she excitedly followed him, moving between his legs, almost making his trip. Finally, he managed to put the bowl on the mat next to the water bowl, which he changed to clean water from a bottle in the fridge.
"She can be such a handful..." He muttered as he sank down at the table with his own food, a sandwich with bacon. His voice clearly showed that he had much affection for the feline, more so than when he spoke about anyone else... including his mother. He had also collected a bottle with Frank's Red Hot Original sauce, which he poured a generous amount onto his sandwich before looking to Moll. "Hot sauce?" He asked, holding out the bottle towards her.

Moll trusted he knew what he was doing as she relaxed some more and let him do his thing with Gabs, getting a sense of the bond they had together. It was pretty strong, all be it with a few of the usual sides to it being master and pet. She was treated like a part of the family, something she grew fond of with them. She couldn't help but smile at the cat's behavior before returning to her sandwich. That's when she was offered some hot sauce by her partner.
"I could try some, sure." She'd then take the bottle and open her sandwich, putting some of it in between the meat and veggies before closing up the bottle and handing it back to him. Closing up her meal, she then began to eat. A classic balance of nutritious and strong. Then the hot sauce kicked in and made her nod her head. "Mm..." She swallowed some before speaking. "That's pretty good sauce." It added a nice sharp touch of flavor to the meal that wasn't there before. She might want to try to replicate it with her chef's work sometime.

"Yeah, it might not be much, but I like it this way," Brant replied after taking a bite from his own sandwich. "Ma and I never had much, so things like these were common for us to eat; I got used to it, especially the hot sauce." The way he said it did not portray a person who was looking for sympathy, and it sounded more like one might when telling any average fact. "Not that my old man was of any use, or is I should say. I see him on the news sometimes, not that he acknowledges that he was my father. Apparently, me looking nothing like him was a convenient excuse..."
Brant paused before shaking his head and taking another bite from his sandwich. "But, the sauce is really nice. I've been thinking of growing my own chilli, have a few pots I prepared for it... just so I might get a small source of extra income, you know."

Moll was only somewhat paying attention as she ate her sandwich, simply enjoying her time with him and bonding with both him and his familiar more. It's been several years since her time in the old days, but she genuinely felt like this was a new beginning for her, a kind of return to form for her lifestyle. She was very glad to have time to her family once again...
Of course, that was when she heard the tidbit about his father, whose situation with him was... complicated. He refused to accept that the boy was indeed his son. This was very unprecedented for her. Was he in a higher position of power and needed to protect his position? Was he trying to preserve his love life? Both? She didn't let it get to her for now as she continued to eat. "Mmn... I see. So, there's still a currency system in this time... Mm.... I'll have to keep that in mind when I pass on my culinary skills to you." She shrugs for a moment. "As soon as I get our garden producing for us. There's a series of peppers I can experiment with to enhance and balance out the flavor."

"Currency system? Do you mean money?" Replied Brant with a dry smile. "Yeah, we still have much of that... capitalism is as powerful now as it has been for years. They praise people for having a lot of money." He let out a small snort. " and simultaneously, they talk about how dangerous the deadly sins are. They speak of greed, gluttony, lust, wrath, envy, sloth... pride. I doubt those people ever took a long, hard look into the mirror"
Brant closed his eyes briefly, taking a deep breath before shaking his head. "Never mind, I'll get myself worked up if I keep talking about the assholes of the world. Not going to help us..." He looked to Moll. "I bet people were as bad when you were still alive?"
Gabs had finished eating and came over to the table, licking herself around her mouth and taking a moment to stretch; Brant had to admit it looked comfortable; sometimes, he wished he could stretch like that. After her little session, the cat sauntered over and jumped onto her master's lap, and he absentmindedly began to scratch her behind the ear. She walked in circles a few times before rolling up, making herself comfortable.

She listened quietly as she ate the rest of her sandwich, licking her lips as she laid back on the chair some while looking at Brant. She gave a slightly off look as he talked about his thoughts on what he believed was the story of her life. At least, from observation. She clasped her hands together on her lap and sighed softly. The thoughts came back to her like a fever on a cold day. Price of the Weary (Veil of Sorrow - Sad Emotional Celtic Music by Evergreen) "Mm... Not bad, just... desperate." Moll's eyes looked down for a bit. "When I left my family to settle here, in the new land, life was a struggle for the people. Weather, new obstacles, new animals to be wary of, even lack of food supplies. But for me, it was the proceeding illnesses that plagued the town at one point that caused people to lose faith." Her eyes turned back to the boy. "I was a healer then, a practitioner of medicine, keeping my magick a secret from everyone. As much as I could, anyway. As time went by, the people started becoming suspicious of witches living among them. And I was being ratted out." She took a deep, shaky breath as she closed her eyes and turned away a bit. "...P-People can jump to any conclusion that suits them, if they're desperate enough to solve their problems... Even under the guise of the 'greater good'." She sounded somewhat somber in her speech, clearly holding back some of her sadness. She's definitely not proud of what she had done then, even if she did so much good for the people there.

Brant listened, his brow deeply furrowed as his hand continued to pet Gabs...
"People are evil," Brant said after a few seconds of silence once Moll was done talking. "Jumping to conclusions my foot. I know about the witch hunts. They would have targeted you with or without magick. It's about control, fear, and making others suffer, the perfect scapegoat for other people's shitty life is someone that cannot defend themselves, like a woman living alone, or someone elderly with no family, or anyone you did not like." Brant shook his head, "How easy it must have been to just lie if you happened to be jealous of the neighbour's good milk, disliked their beauty, or just did not agree with the way they lived their lives... Of course, they must have sold their soul to the devil, how convenient."
"So don't feel bad about it, Moll," he continued, "Even if not everyone was behind the crime, clearly no one tried to speak out against it either. Desperation is no excuse for being a sheep. It's the same with those who tried to bully others in my old school, and those who stood silent and did nothing, making others miserable to make themselves feel less shitty about their own shitty lives." He let out a sharp exhale of breath. "But when I defended them, I was the criminal, I was to be punished."
Brant looked to Gabs on his lap, he did not get why Moll would feel bad about punishing those who wronged her, if anything... had Brant been able to, he would have done the same. He was never one to just sit back at let someone walk over him, or anyone else if he could help it. He was certainly not going to be a sheep, and would not stay silent if he saw something he knew was wrong. He could live with a suspension, at least the bully did not do the same thing again.

His words didn't exactly pierce through her perspective like a spear, but he did make a very good point. Naturally it's easier to just leave someone behind or do bad things to them to get what you want or to just spite them depending on what the situation is. Even though there can be a cost to kindness, the same could be said for resenting others. And yet... nobody came to help her when she was attacked. That thought just raced smoothly around her mind for a bit before her senses kicked her out of it and... she simply sighed and nodded.
"Yeah... You have some kind of point. It's so easy to hate... and hatred begets hatred. There's no excuse good enough to pardon those responsible for what was done to me... Still, that was then. My curse is still affecting people here and now, even people who are oblivious to my story. I guess the nurturer in me is still regretful that it had to come to that..."
Getting up from the table, Moll softly brushed her hair and cleared her throat. "Well, anyway, I guess I can get settled in some more." She turned towards Brant. "How many bedrooms does this place have?"

"It happens," said Brant, "Let's just say this city is not that much better these days. Besides, that you regret what you did does show you're a better person. What's done is done; you already died, and it is not your job to fix the past. That's what the living are for. No use in fixing people who don't want to be fixed."
He watched her stand, and she mentioned settling in... he remained seated with the feline companion on his lap.
"Not sure-" he paused, looking to the door leading into the living room. "There are at least three more rooms and a basement, but much is dilapidated and isolated. You get to them from the living room, two doors, and a hatch going down to the basement from here in the kitchen." He pointed to a wooden hatch on the floor, partly hidden by a carpet. "Oddly enough, I have never found the third room, but I know the lawyer said the building has three rooms, but the place is old, so they might have merged two rooms into one. Gabs and I mostly stay here and in the living room; my bed is just a mattress on the floor. I like to keep it close to the fireplace. Thankfully, I have no shortage of firewood, we have never been freezing."

"So, a confusing mess of remodeling issues. I get that."
Moll chuckled at the remark, somewhat half-serious as she'll probably have to investigate the house herself to find out where everything is. Once she has a concrete idea, she can manage things and optimize it accordingly to benefit them more in the long run. Getting a place like this back in order would be an interesting arrangement.
"Looks like I'll have to get the place fixed up over the next few days. I'll need to get reacquainted to life as a living person since I was... well, you know." She began walking towards the living room, planning on doing some slight exploring so that she can get an idea as to how she can get started later on. She turned her head towards where Brant was to continue speaking with him. "If I were to make an appearance casually in the town, what do you think my name should be? You don't want people randomly knowing the witch of this town is alive and well. It could cause problems we don't need."

Brand collected Gabs, holding her as he followed Moll towards the living room.
"Well... I doubt people will think you're the witch even if you use your true name," he said after thinking. But it might be a good idea if we meet others in this war for the grail. It would be a bad idea if they knew who you are; it might be something they could use against us, even if your legend is not the most widely spread." He paused, thinking about it. "You could always call yourself something like Molly? That is a name that works"
He was just about to say something else when a crack of thunder resonated from outside, and moments later... it started to rain. Brand frowned slightly, watching as the rain began to beat against the old windows. "Perfect. We'll need a fire tonight if this rain plans to stay. At least the roof is not leaking, which is... something" He put Gabs in an armchair before walking over to prepare a few logs of wood in the fireplace.

She quickly came to realize the same kind of weather forecast right outside their window, hearing the rain. She softly sighed and turned her head. "Right. I'm certain you know how to set that up. Though, while controlling fire is one thing, creating it straight from the mana in the air is another. I'll help you with that at a later date, but for now, just do it the traditional way." She began to move towards the other pathways to the other rooms in the house. "I'll come up with a name for myself later. I'm going to look around the house some more."
Moll then went on towards the opening towards the other, mostly unexplored parts of her new abode, taking her time to scan the area and get to know the place some more so that she can try to adjust parts of it to her liking. Let's see what she finds...
