"Really? I have to fly to the Peak for a performance review?" "Kara, you do remember that you can get there in minutes, right?""It's not that, Alex! I have to submit the Protectorate piece to Ms. Grant by midnight and I'm so behind on it."After a moment of silence, Alex let out a sigh of disbelief with a tinge of sarcasm. A raw display of what an exhale can convey. "Typing at super speed messes with my prose!"
"Anyway, he sometimes has face-to-face time with the field agents. Especially the superpowered ones. Hey, maybe he just misses you!"
Kara could've heard the teasing tone from halfway through the atmosphere.
"Ha. Ha. He's just going to glare at me again with his... eyes... gives me the heebie jeebies."
"Just imagine him naked."
"You disturb me. Anyway, I'm about to enter space. Talk to you later."
Kara's earpiece switched off with the touch of a finger and proceeded to give herself an additional boost before exiting Earth's atmosphere proper. The Blue Planet's hue quickly faded into black, flickering spots of light coming into view. The bright ball at the center of the solar system made itself more prominent. The source of her powers. Funny how stuff like that worked. Kara had a mostly complete knowledge on how the Sun affected her, but there was still something about it that was a mystery. Right now, however, her eyes were fixated on Earth's companion. And more importantly, what laid behind it. Flying through space hadn't stopped being a strange feeling. Kryptonians aren't adversely affected by the vacuum of space, unless they, for whatever unreasonable reason, decide to try and breathe. They can still fly at tremendous speeds, however. And more importantly, they hold their breath as they do so. Being as quick as they are, holding their breath isn't a hardship, which they can do for hours on end anyway. But Kara was never a fan of that. She didn't try to find a reason for it, she just didn't like the mild sensation of it. At least space was rather picturesque, making travel through the cold void much more bearable. After a moment's notice (slightly exaggerated), Supergirl was soaring past the Moon, until its horizon gradually began to reveal her point of arrival. Located just past the Moon, the Peak was the primary headquarters of SWORD. ARGUS sure liked its subsidiaries having acronyms of all sorts. The Peak's name gave its appearance clear context. The widest portion of the main body was topped of with a jagged end, the station's width decreasing as it went on. In a similar fashion, the body's extension were its three circular sub-stations, each attached to a part of the main body, all being different sizes in conjunction with the body's narrowing shape. The Peak housed the bulk of SWORD's forces and operations, its mission being the same since its founding: observation of space beyond Earth and response to possible threats looming in the vast emptiness. Kara had been to the Peak a few times, though only when asked. Her focus was still Earth and more importantly, her own life. So far, those priorities were deemed acceptable. Kara was to land on the very top, the largest part of the Peak, before having to make her way downward to her boss' office. She knew a faster way, but that wasn't allowed. A tactic, Kara was sure of it. She soared past the myriad of ships surrounding the station and its rings, taking in the busy energy that seemed to permeate throughout. Descending to the landing platform, she went through the station's gravity field that doubled as a pressurization field. A very faint hum echoed as she did so. Kara breathed in and out a few times as she landed, as if needing to remind herself she could do that again. She made her way to the nearest elevator, giving nods and friendly greetings to the workers and agents who passed her. Kara didn't know most of those people, too many to keep track of, despite her memory. It brought into focus just how large the organization was that happened to employ her. All of them had their own stories, big and small. In comparison, Kara would seem boring next to a lot of them. A humbling prospect. Supergirl's elevator ride went through a dozen levels of the station at least. Parts of it opening up to the Peak's interior. A sprawling city in its own right, small figures moving all around the place. The fact that some people seemed tiny there spoke of the impressive size of the station. There were several people in the elevator with Kara, though once she reached the required level, she was the only one left. Stepping out, Kara was greeted with a fairly small lobby of sorts. Looking directly in front, she saw the office she was supposed to enter. To the right, her boss' assistant sat behind a well-equipped desk. Supergirl made her way to the desk, the assistant's head rising, both of their eyes met. A subconscious decision was made then as to who would speak first. "Supergirl, welcome back to the Peak. Director Bones will be ready for you shortly.""Thank you."Kara had a dozen other things she could've said and commented on, but opted for a simple thanks instead. The assistant's professional yet warm demeanor helped ease Kara's mild anxiety. She gestured the hero to take a seat in one of the many deceptively comfortable chairs across the reception desk. Did he make her wait on purpose? Maybe, but she could do little until his skull peeked from his office door and invite her in. Well... she could break down the door. Though that wouldn't look good on her performance review, would it?

After Kara had finished her brief exchange with the director's assistant, there was a sudden rush of air from the other side of the door she would be going through soon. It was nearly imperceptible to the human eye, a blur of silver and navy-blue that practically flew out of the room. Through careful measures that were in place to prevent dramatic entrances (or in this case, exits), the door abruptly stopped its momentum before it slammed against the wall. For Kara, these details were a little more perceptible, though even then, the subject was an ambiguous humanoid figure clad in obscuring cloaks and metal that had reached the elevator door, which had opened just in time, before turning around to face... Kara, if she was looking. There was only a second or two for a quiet exchange between her and this stranger before the elevator doors slid shut, and silence gradually slipped back into the lobby. To her credit, the assistant did not bat an eye at any of this, continuing to work on her part-tablet part-laptop with pinpoint focus. At least a few minutes would pass without incident. Time itself eked out a grueling pace, dragging out existence into... well, it was actually only between five to ten minutes before she was summoned, but for someone of Kara's capabilities... and temperament, that may have felt much longer. "Enter."There was only the slightest cue of the overhead intercom crackling to life to preface his announcement. His naturally cold tone filtered through the device as if he was himself part-machine. If only. There wouldn't be any follow-up messages if she failed to comply the first time. Director Bones never minced words, nor patience.
The director's office was more akin to a private command center. Not only was it a spacious area, its ceiling ran high, enough for numerous holographic displays to be installed around the room. The most prominent was in the center, where a facsimile of the Earth was projected in a clean blue filter, with many, many blips, lines, and other abstract geometric data indicating things that only the director understood. However, these details seemed to be minimized, as there were smaller objects depicted far from the Earth itself, reaching past the solar system and representing the untold cosmos with intricate detail. The man himself was standing with his back to Kara when she entered, and that continued to be the case. He was occupied with particular points on the hologram, gesturing and swiping his gloved fingers against these tangible data points; the extent of their context was lost on Kara for the moment. As ever, the director of S.W.O.R.D. was dressed in an ordinary three-piece suit, with his signature "American Flag" tie that was a spot more tasteful than other shows at patriotism in his circles. Cigar smoke trailed away from the front of his head. The pungence was thick. He had been on this one for hours. Bones did not address Kara just yet. He continued to work... but he also continued to not say anything. Business as usual.

So... this was 'Earth'. Huh, reminded him a lot of his own home-planet of H'lven. Well, at least from an atmospheric view. He had heard Hal's stories about Earth, how it was pretty on a distance... but ugly up-close. Of all the pollution and urbanization. But at least the distant view was nice! Ch'p had to smirk a bit as he took in the view of Earth from where he was, floating only a couple of thousand feet away from the Peak. He was curious about the station itself, but he left it for now. He was all too focused on the planet below.
"So this is yer place huh, Hal? Well, it'd be a delight to see ya in person. Probably busy protectin' the planet though..."
He was aware he was talking to himself, but he didn't generally care. As far as he knew, he was here alone... even with that space station looming in the distance.

With barely any time to sit down and make herself as comfortable as she could in these conditions, Kara's senses kicked into gear as the office's door opened and closed with haste. The cloaked figure was tremendously quick and was covered from head to toe in both said cloak and what seemed to be a metal suit of armor. She wasn't able make out much else and she wasn't going to pry with her eyes, even though she could. Their eyes did indeed lock for a moment, Kara's curious gaze meeting the non-descriptive faceplate. As quickly as the figure made their way across the room to the elevator, just as quick were they in the elevator and onwards to whatever business they had to handle. The silence permeated the room again, deafeningly loud. Only the faint hum of the tech-laden station and quiet chimes from the assistant's device gave it some semblance of life. The minutes passed by, Kara's mind suddenly dominated by Jeopardy's theme. She was a patient woman, until it became sullied by very human anxiety. Luckily, there was a medium-sized oval window across the room and to the left of where Kara sat. Looking out into the vast cosmos, stars flickered, a few of the ships circling the Peak passed by, one of the station's rings also came into focus. And... a faint green streak? Kara would've found it strange, were it not for the relatively well-known presence of the Green Lanterns. Hal or John coming home? Her wonderings were interrupted by the intercom springing to life for a moment, a single word uttered through. Even with the intercom distorting it ever so slightly, the voice was unmistakable. Matter-of-fact, directorial. Only a few descriptions of the man Kara was about to meet again. She stood, making her way through the now opened door. A light shiver went down her spine. An irrational fear and not only because of his skeletal appearance. The man carried and presented himself in a way where Kara had never really learned to trust him. And she didn't have to. It mattered none to her role. It mattered even less to Bones.
The office was filled with the pungent smell of the cigar he had been puffing on. It caught Kara off guard enough for her to let out a single winced cough before being forced to adapt to its presence in the room. The haze of the smoke was overpowered by the hue of the holograms. Earth was indeed the largest, lit up like a Christmas tree. The same could be said for the rest of the veritable map, really. Kara could only guess what those dots meant. She wasn't there for finding out their purpose, yet her gaze remained darting all over, trying to find some semblance of a pattern. Bones didn't acknowledge her entrance. Unsurprising. Even with his back to her, he was eerie. But the sooner she could get this over with, the soon she could go home. "Director Bones. Agent Danvers here for my... performance review."She had little else to say until he properly addressed her and got down to business. In the meantime, she hadn't taken her eyes off the holograms. Though a recent addition near the Peak drew her attention. A blip like the others, Kara still immediately drew the conclusion that it must have been the Lantern she saw. If it was one. If that was the case, why would they be tagged? However, it hadn't missed Kara that SWORD was a vigilant bunch. Paranoid, some would say even.

The Director did not turn to face Kara. From his subtle body tells, however, Kara knew that he had heard her. More importantly, as if he was reading Kara's thoughts, the director's attention was fixed on the same green dot that had caught her eye. Specifically, it was a green dot bordered with a red perimeter. This notation was basic enough for Kara to recall her S.W.O.R.D. training: Enemy intruder.
The realization hung in the air just long enough for the director to cut to the heart of the matter. This time, he turned to face her. The man was indeed a skeleton, whether Kara tried to see through his skin or not. His smoke threatened to enter her breathing space, but he seemed courteous enough to put his cigar in his free hand, now down by his side. His stare, hollow as it was, was rueful. In a way, the S.W.O.R.D. director was always smiling. "It would seem you have one more performance, Agent Danvers."
The rest of the Peak was already on high alert. However, given new protocol following the Kree invasion, the Peak had mobilized a "silent vigil". From the outset, the Peak's operations would continue as normal, ostensibly oblivious to anything being out of the ordinary, so as to avoid tipping off prospective threats that they were prepared. On the inside, however, it was all hands on deck. Several flight groups were already preparing to sortie on the Green Lantern... but the director had issued orders to standby. Who could possibly be on retainer up here that could handle a Green Lantern?

Whilst the Peak was scrambling on high alert on the inside, Ch'p was none the wiser as the squirrel-like Lantern would just zip and zoom about around the planet's atmosphere, just looking down all over it. His green-lit form would literally move around as if it was by the speed of sound, and one could easily miss his miniscule form if they so much as BLINKED. One moment he'd be there, and the next he'd be over there! An advantage with such a miniscule form; less mass to drag around.
"Well gee, sure would'a been nice if there was a welcome committee or somethin' here! This place's deader 'dan an asteroid field! Who's door do I gotta knock to get someone to come here!"
His head did turn over to the Peak briefly, seeing the looming figure of the space station up ahead. Would there be people in there, or just another unmanned craft? He had not seen anything like it before. The only thing more impressive would have to be Oa itself. Slowly, Ch'p would turn to fully face the Peak, and began to float towards it, in a slow, non-threatening manner.

Enemy Intruder.
A weird notion, considering her eyes rarely failed her. But she knew SWORD and its paranoia. Kara couldn't blame them either. The Kree caught everyone off guard, the invasion's effects arguably still felt to this day. No outside force, however seemingly familiar, could be taken lightly. Bones' stare met Kara's, his intent with authority, with her holding back jitters. There was something about sentient skeletons. However, she wasn't a stranger to authority and Bones' reputation spoke for itself. In a way, his appearance was ideal for this type of job. In this moment, Kara also felt a pang of sympathy. She didn't know his entire story. But she did know that he was in his current occupation for a reason. One that was worthy of respect from his subordinates. And one that was undoubtedly filled with experiences she could only try to imagine. It couldn't have been easy to be in charge of something this large, this essential to Earth's defense. She quietly appreciated his small cigar gesture. It also became clear that he was intent on seeing her method of operating first-hand. Unsurprising. Still, she would agree. Green Lantern or not, an unidentified one in their sector wasn't all too common. A happy coincidence that she was there, then. "Yes, sir."
Kara gave Bones a curt nod. In a few moments, she made her exit towards the elevator. The elevator doors closed a few seconds before the office door did, her gaze meeting Bones' once more for a brief moment. She held back jitters.
Being back on the top floor, Kara noticed the Peak's protocols at work. All SWORD agents had been trained in these updated security measures, the calm being a mere ruse. An ingenious move. Yet she knew they wouldn't do anything unless the Lantern actually proved a threat. Kara classified that as unlikely, while still keeping her guard up. Before she would enter the top hangar, from which she entered the station in the first place, Kara grabbed a breathing apparatus from a nearby station. The device had a built-in communications module, which could instantaneously link to any frequency or similar device, if allowed by the other party. Being able to properly breathe and talk in the vacuum of space seemed obviously necessary. Entering the top hangar, looking over the empty void, with the Moon being closest to it, Earth's blue hue in the distance beyond it, Kara took flight. Exiting the hangar's gravity field, Supergirl gave herself a boost. Reaching incredible speeds instantly, her voyage over the Moon and closer to Earth took little time. The small green hue was clearly visible to her, quickly getting closer. Now being close enough, Kara noticed that the Lantern hadn't done anything to thwart her approach, despite being very likely clearly visible to them. When Kara reached the unidentified Lantern proper, she stopped, now floating as they did. She was immediately perplexed by his appearance being that of a... squirrel? Kara knew enough of the Lanterns to be aware that the Corps consisted of all sorts of aliens. Yet a seemingly run-of-the-mill squirrel struck her as more odd than a "classic" alien would have. "You're... a squirrel?!"
Her astonishment carried a clear sense of uncertainty and curiosity. The sense of strange wonder got the better of her, before realizing that Bones was definitely keeping an eye on her one way or another. Regardless, the question was now out there. Kara followed it up with a semi-official query.
"You're also not from this sector, why are you here?"
Kara's Lantern lingo and knowledge was entirely made up of what SWORD had given her, which was likely limited to their own sector and whatever information they had managed to gather from Earth's own Lanterns. Whenever they decided to be around, anyway. But they also knew the locals and the furry fellow definitely wasn't one of them.

Ch'p would finally sense someone approaching him, his ears pointing up at high attention when Kara decided to fly in close as he'd prepare his Power Ring, his energies already fluctuating as he thought he was in for a fight. However--
"You're... a squirrel?!"
Well, turns out she seemed a lot more curious than hostile! So that was a good start for communications, at least! But, the comment made his ears flatten a little bit as he'd frown at Supergirl, using his ring to manifest a large, green hand with its index finger held upright, making a 'tsk tsk' wagging motion at her.
"Nuh-uh lady, I ain' no dang squirrel! I'm a H'lvenite! I might LOOK like a squirrel, but trus' me; Hal can testify fer me that I most certainly ain't one o' your nut-munchin' little fellas!"
He'd scoff playfully, giving off a smirk at Kara to indicate such. He was certainly a lot more casual and laid-back when one got to know him, and he made an effort to appear as such for the Kryptonian. He'd lie back and pretend to use his tail as a makeshift armchair, despite the fact it was his Lantern powers that allowed him to float.
"Well, in any case, glad I finally got somethin' of a welcome committee! Pleasure to meet'cha, citizen o' Earth! The name's Ch'p, of the Green Lantern Corps! Just thought I'd do a lil' bit of galactic sight-seein' is all! An' I've always wanted to visit Hal's sector of the universe. There's another Lantern in the sector where I'm from, an' it's been generally quiet around our home-base, so I figured I'd take liberties when I can, y'know!"

Kara backed up just a bit as the green light construct formed. She had seen a bit of the Lantern Rings in action before, an amazing piece of technology. The oversized hand fit Ch'p's personality perfectly, despite Kara not even knowing him yet. His rebuttal and lively manner of speech made it clear. From the onset, he seemed harmless, which was Kara's guess from the start anyway. She chuckled amusedly as he refuted her claims of him being a squirrel. Well... he still looked like one, but sure, she was going to take his word for it.
"Uh huh. I guess I haven't seen any ordinary squirrels wield Lantern rings, so I'll take your word for it, H'lvenite."
She answered his smirk with a small one of her own. Kara hadn't really encountered someone who was near Earth just "sightseeing." But she guessed that even veritable space cops can't say no to curiosity sometimes. Besides, the way those rings worked, he could very likely be back in his own sector in a jiffy, should the need arise.
"Alright, Ch'p. I'm Supergirl when in the suit. Kara when I'm not. Either one works. Kryptonian, though also an Earthling. I don't think Hal's on Earth right now though, if you were hoping to see him."
Kara pointed to her sigil when introducing herself. She then remembered that she should signal the Peak to go off alert, if Bones hadn't done so already. But an additional reminder couldn't hurt. It would maybe say something about her professionalism, something Bones was definitely looking for. Patching herself in to the Peak's frequency for a moment, Kara gestured at Ch'p briefly, it essentially saying "hold on a sec", as she turned her gaze towards the station.
"Intruder identified. Not a threat. Stand down."
Whatever measures SWORD had prepared would have to wait another day. Turning her attention back to Ch'p, she thought it would be courteous to let him know of the situation stemmed from his arrival. Before continuing their pleasant conversation, anyway.
"Just so you know, you had at least three separate groups checking you out when you entered the sector. We're... careful with any unknowns these days. Anyway, what do you know of Earth?"

"A pleasure makin' acquaintances with ya, Supergirl. Heh, kinda reminds me of this 'SuperMAN' fella that Hal told me 'bout. You two related or somethin'? No offense if ya ain't, but y'know; similar names an' stuff, kinda makes it feel like the gig runs in the family!"
Ch'p grins mirthfully, still not showing any signs of what Kara might possibly had related to the usual Lantern persona; stoic, stalwart, and collected protectors of the universe. Ch'p was almost the complete ANTITHESIS to all of those! But he saw no problem in it seemingly. But his mood did seem to droop a little when Kara mentioned that Hal might not be on Earth right now. Dang it, that was his MAIN reason for showing up here! To catch up, and hang out! But then he overheard her signal over to the Peak, his ears pinning to the back of his head.
"Wha-- now HOLD ON jus' a sec! You were really thinkin' of me as a THREAT?! I'm a Green Lantern fer Pete's sake! I ain' one of Sinestro's lackeys or somethin'! Feh. But I suppose I can't blame ya for bein' careful. Lotta stuff goin' on in the universe these days."
He'd briefly let his ears relax, reaching a paw up to rub and scritch at one of them for a bit before responding.
"Well... part o' my reason for being here isn't even present himself, sadly. Was hopin' to find Hal Jordan here so him an' I could catch up. I used to be one of his mentors back at Oa, y'know! Along with this big fella called Kilowog! He was the one that picked up Hal an' took him to Oa!"

The squirrel (she still couldn't see him otherwise) definitely had a lot going on for him in such a small package. Kara chuckled at Ch'p's gleeful pleasure of them being acquainted now. Was his demeanor a ruse? She didn't think so, though she made the obvious conclusion that was definitely more than met the eye. His observation at her name wasn't a misplaced one. It mostly made Kara think about how many of the heroes were either related or had known one another for a long time. At least, that was the case on Earth. Everybody knew everybody, it seemed. She wasn't all that different, frankly. Her tenure had given her a lot more connections than she initially expected. A boon and a hindrance, both equally.
"Well, you're right! Superman is my cousin. I'm technically older than him, but that's... a whole story in and of itself. But now we're both here and helping this blue gem we call home."
She pointed at Earth as she said her last sentence. Kara's laughter accompanying what she said portrayed some awkwardness and the genuine intention of the meaning of her words. It was quite the story, though one that she expected Ch'p to not be too dissimilar with. At least in comparison to what he had likely faced as a Lantern. Speaking of, his surprise at being deemed a possible threat wasn't unexpected. But it did speak of the vastness of the universe his people were protecting. She had an idea of how big everything was. Even still, Supergirl knew that the great cosmos was much more grand than she could perhaps imagine.
"When the Kree invade in force and get past most of your defenses, the paranoia of that doesn't just go away."
Kara remembered the invasion down to every miniscule detail she saw. She could only hope that something like that would never happen again. Which seemed admittedly naive on her part. She knew that. And in case it ever happened again, she knew everyone wanted to be fully prepared. The universe, for its splendor, was filled with equal amounts of despair. Ch'p didn't seem to linger on his perceived humorous offense for too long, however. His mind seemed to process 25 thoughts at once, his words vocalizing most of them at once. He spoke really quick. His mentioning of being Hal's mentor brought a sly smile to Supergirl's face.
"Mentor, huh? Hope that took a peg off of Hal's confidence."
Hal and her had never been close by any stretch of the imagination. Only really interacting with him during League business whenever Clark asked for her. A valiant protector with an ego to boot. But he earned his place, that much she knew. Kara didn't try to pretend to know more about him, such prejudice was never really beneficial to anyone. She knew where his loyalties landed and that was good enough for her.
"I, uh, wasn't prepared for a visitor. But since you're here, anything you'd like to see?"
