General Personality: Sharp as a razor, equally witty and clever, Claire managed to survive on her own for years. While she used to be satisfied just surviving day to day when she was on the run, her tune changed when she came forward against black projects operated by the government. Now she wants to prevent more from being exploited like she was, especially children. Anything involving the government involvement of metahumans, mutants or super powered individuals is a sensitive topic for Claire, one sure to earn her ire. She isn't against regulation of superpowers, but definitely doesn't like the idea of government owning supers, essentially making them human weapons or political pawns. Despite all of Claire's training and normally collected behavior, she can sometimes have a bit of a temper. She has zero tolerance of those who treat someone's life as disposable or replaceable.
When she isn't on the clock or run, Claire enjoys lounging, preferably on a warm sunny beach somewhere. Essentially she likes to enjoy serenity, sometimes just on her phone or reading a book. Sometimes she'll trade it for a decent gym routine without disruption is a nice change of pace.
Face/Voice: Kelsey Sanders

Character's History
Siblings: None
Mother: Mrs. Selton (Alive)
Father: Mr. Selton (Alive)
Other Family: None
History:
Volcana or rather Claire Selton was by all means a normal child living in the suburban United States, at least at first. Both of her parents who needed money for college had met when they volunteered for experiments to try and induce psychic powers in regular Humans using a mixture of technology and exotic chemicals in a time where several companies were actively competing to create metahumans as weapons. It had given them minor abilities, both amounting to what the experiment considered 1 out of 5 in terms of power. Her father having the ability to make people consider what he said was reasonable and easy to go along with while her mother had a sense for sensing dangerous situations as if by chance she could always feel her way to somewhere she would be safe. Claire expressed her powers around her 13th birthday, accidentally setting objects on fire or projecting small jets when angered.
Not wanting an incident, they desperately sought out a means to help her control her powers. As the original project had long since gone defunct, its assets being sold to several companies after failing to achieve its goals, her parents reached out to another subject of the experiment who had involved himself with a facility based out of Metropolis, the Center for Paranormal Studies. Though first they had to test the origin and basis of her abilities as the increase in what the news called "Mutants" was on the rise. Her pyrokinesis was determined to be activated in the same manner of those who were experimented on more than 20 years ago. It was like an academy for metahumans, though they had a lot of scientists on hand. At first things seemed on the level, retired heroes being brought in for lectures on power control or helping her cope and get used to being different. It all changed when some government types arrived, sniffing around for the better part of a week. The staff weren't their regular selves, nervous and on guard the entire time.
Claire amongst a few others were "selected" by the agents, kidnapped from the facility as news broke that several students were killed by fatal radiation exposure produced by one of the students. The "remains" of Claire and the other supposedly deceased students were sealed in lead containers to keep suspicions away. Afterwards the center took a massive hit in the media and was forced to downsize its operations into a defunct charter school. Claire was processed and then isolated from the others. They immediately started with their psychological conditioning in addition to grooming her powers to serve the government. Seeing no other way out of her situation, Claire bent and complied to become their weapon. "Volcana" was born and named such after a suggestion of her handler which sounded so threatening but carried a unique allure. Claire had been getting the occasional visitor throughout her conditioning and was being asked questions as they monitored her conditioning through a camera, everything coming out orderly and well mannered.
Volcana, along with team of soldiers and other metahumans were sent to a 3rd world country to intercept and neutralize Soviet era chemical weapons. It was the first time she had ever been deployed in combat, and the first time she took another life. What was meant to be a simple destruction mission turned into an hours long war that tore the forested area apart, the defenders having armed themselves with exosuits and high tech weapons. While the mission was successful and the facility destroyed, Claire was one of the few survivors. Over the next 2 years she was deployed with other teams and a few times on solo gigs. Her constant training making her sharper and enhancements were made to her to improve her powers, even granting her the ability to fly. This all changed after an incident which caused numerous civilian casualties in a 3rd world country, Volcana's programming broke.
By the time her handlers realized what happened, she was long gone and the evidence that she was supposed to destroy was left for authorities to find. It was a devastating blow to the black ops group, the blowback thrusting most of their assets into the light of day and most of their people in prison. Claire was forced to do what she did best while keeping a low profile, stealing stuff for someone else. It was all she knew how to do and she couldn't come in from the cold as she had literally burned her bridge. It would take years for her past to come back to catch her, a small remnant of the group seeking revenge from their various fallback jobs after Claire had made a bit of a showing in Metropolis to steal something. This also caught the attention of a bigstick superhero and the local press. She was nearly caught by said superhero who stated he just wanted to help, she had been on her own too long and was too paranoid to take him on his offer at face value. Claire was able to give him the slip thanks to a combination of her powers and black ops training, but as a result of having to show off her powers a bit, she was later ambushed by agents with weapons designed to neutralize her powers before capturing her. These agents were sloppy in catching her and forced to leave some behind to clean up the mess. This plan was all set forward by the director of the program who had escaped the original purge from the government sought to capture her out of revenge. He was determined to either to cut her open to discover the source of her power or to sell her off to some government willing to pay his price for such a weapon.
Volcana nearly resigned to her fate, kept in a perfect prison filled with inert gas and a small supply of oxygen to barely keep her conscious. Much to her surprise, the same superhero who had tried to help her out before, busted into the lab and freed her. Though he did have a condition, Claire publicly testified against her captors and the government supports, in addition to devoting herself to a few thousand hours of community service. With a little poking about and dealing with her past she was able to find her family. Who after all these years of worrying, had resigned to thinking they lost their daughter, were at a loss for words and welcomed her with open arms. It allowed her to open up for the first time since she was practically a child, leaving a void that wouldn't allow her to live a simple life like she once did. She wasn't really sure on how to approach anyone, other than maybe making a massive display of firepower which might send the wrong message. But as fate would have it, Claire encountered a few people interested in her powers. Villains, mercenaries, enemies of the government, criminals, she gave them all a bit of a scorch to remember her by. Desperate to protect her parents and not have to watch over her shoulder again, she made a giant flaming "S" over downtown Metropolis. While she didn't get the person she was looking for, it at least opened the door. Claire was able to have her parents put into protective custody in another country while she asked if anyone was hiring anyone like herself.
Role Play Sample:
A streaking stream of fire shot across the night's sky like a meteor, streaming towards the site of a massive wildfire that had broken out. "Damn that's massive." Claire thought as she sped towards it. She could see various firefighters below scrambling to hold the line or mount some type of defense. As she drew closer to the ground, Claire began to slow down to the point her flaming trail vanished. She waved her arms around and began to manipulate the raging inferno, pushing the fire backwards towards the center much to the delight of the weary firefighters. Careful to avoid the choking black smoke, she managed to squash the fire back to an already burned area where it lost its ability to fuel back into the inferno. With half of the overall fire contained, she focused on pulling the remainder back and tried to prevent any ashes from causing new fires outside of the perimeter.
By the time all was said and done, the sun was peeking over the nearby mountains. Claire was splayed out on a bunk, exhausted and covered with soot. Before she could react a group had ran all around her and hoisted the metal frame off of the ground like it was a litter. Claire nervously looked around, but was put at ease to see that she was being paraded by several of the firefighters. Their "goddess of fire" was treated to a celebratory breakfast. "Oh hey... you guys didn't have to go to all this trouble. I'm sure you're all tired and want to go home." Claire said, trying to politely refuse their offer as the comms in her ear chimed. She focused on her ear, listening to an automated dispatch. "Actually I'm needed elsewhere. Gotta jet." Claire said as she leapt into the air and carefully flared up. She gave them a wave before shooting off into the sky again.
