Genius Intelligence:
Otto Octavius is particularly renowned for his expertise in the fields of nuclear physics, robotics, and mechanical engineering. His intelligence rivals that of some of the brightest minds in the world. Octavius has a doctorate in nuclear physics and has made significant contributions to various scientific disciplines. Through his intellect, Otto is a scientific genius who has developed advanced and innovative technologies. His most famous invention is the set of mechanical tentacle appendages that he wears, equipped with a range of features such as superhuman strength and dexterity. These tentacles are a testament to his exceptional skill in robotics. His intellect and ruthless and ambitious nature make him a dangerous adversary. Octavius' intellect is not limited to only science; using deductive abilities to figure out Peter Parker's secret identity as Spider-Man. He also managed to deceive Parker, maintaining an appearance of ignorance on the matter of Spider-Man. Octavius is characterized by his strategic mind, regularly devising numerous backup plans that account for many threats and what-ifs. This foresight and efficient contingencies render him a versatile and unpredictable man. He likes to be one step ahead, even at times when taken by surprise.
Radiation Specialist:
Doctor Octopus stands as one of the foremost experts globally in the field of nuclear radiation and its impact on animal physiology.
Engineering:
Possessing remarkable engineering and inventive skills.
High Concentration:
Due to years of dedicated practice, Doctor Octopus has developed extraordinary mental abilities and concentration, allowing him to perform two complex and two simple independent actions simultaneously. Each arm is adeptly employed for distinct tasks, showcasing his exceptional multitasking skills.
Weapons/Items:
Cybernetic Tentacles
Doctor Octavius' pride and joy, his greatest invention. A stainless steel harness encircles his body from the lower chest to the waist, supporting four telescoping titanium-steel tentacles—these electronically-powered appendages under mental control. The pincers exhibit a full 360-degree rotational capability. Their motors are independently mounted on frictionless gimbals, enclosed within several thin, titanium-niobium steel layers. The resulting structure, an engineering marvel, earned him the notorious moniker "Doctor Octopus" or Doc Ock. They are constructed from a titanium-steel alloy, and these tentacles offer high tensile strength and have a formidable melting point. The motors are compact nuclear-powered generators capable of powering the tentacles for a period of five years before requiring replacement.
Unfortunately, the advanced neuro-link, a component of this technological wonder, has affected Octavius' mind. Combined with the AI made to aid in controlling them, having created a direct link to his spine, this has altered the doctor's personality. Rather than serving solely as a boon, it has exacerbated his mental problems, fostering paranoia and contributing to his descent into villainy.

Technopathic Tentacle Manipulation
Octopus possesses the psionic ability to command his artificial arms, even if they have been detached from his body and are situated far away from him.
Telescoping
At full contraction, every tentacle measures around six feet in length but has the capacity to extend up to a maximum of 24 feet.
Superhuman Striking Force
Moving at a velocity of ninety feet per second, each tentacle possesses the striking force akin to that of a jackhammer.
High-Wind Generation
If spun like a colossal fan, the tentacles have the capability to generate winds reaching speeds of 50 miles per hour.
Wall-Climbing and Traveling
Utilizing the combined strength of his tentacles and pincers, Doctor Octopus can ascend stone, brick, or concrete walls by creating "handholds" on their surfaces. Octopus can also employ his tentacles for horizontal traversal. When fully extended, he can move at an elevated height above the ground, resembling stilts. This can be achieved with either two tentacles or, for maximum speed (approximately 50 miles per hour), all four tentacles.
Sensation Feeling
Despite the absence of nerve endings along the entire length of his artificial arms, Octopus is capable of "sensing" basic sensations through them. Due to mutagenic alterations resulting from radiation exposure during the accident, electrical connections have been established from his chest harness to his spine. Consequently, Doctor Octopus can mentally detect "tactile" sensations by gauging the electrical resistance experienced by the pincer's electric motors when the pincers grip an object.
Appearance
Ah, Peter, always trying to shoulder the responsibility, even when there's no hope. I can't tell you how many times your unfettered optimism has kept me going, even when things looked bleak. I'll miss being with you. I really will.
Physical Appearance:
Otto is a dark-haired, bespectacled individual with green eyes. While heavier than most people his size, Otto hardly appears fat – he is, at best, chubby, which would be expected of an older man not engaging in regular exercise.
Clothing and Armor:
Dr Otto Octavius usually wears a laboratory-grade trench coat over top of a dark bodysuit with turtle neck. The most defining feature of Doctor Octopus is his mechanical appendages, often referred to as "tentacles" or "arms." He has four of these highly advanced robotic arms, which are attached to a harness on his back. This harness is designed to provide stability and support for the tentacles, allowing him to manipulate them with great precision. His outfit is completed with sturdy gloves and heavy-duty boots, which match the colour scheme of the rest of his outfit. He often wears a pair of round, protective goggles or glasses to shield his eyes from potential harm, as well as to enhance his vision. These goggles also function as a practical accessory for him during experimentation, as a means to protect his eyes.
Personality
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual
General Personality:
"Men like us have a duty, a responsibility, to use our talents in the service of others, even when they don't appreciate it. We have to do what's best for those beneath us, whether they understand it or not!"
Doctor Otto Octavius was once an optimistic, forgiving man focused on making the world a better place. While his work didn't progress as well or quickly as he had hoped, he stayed his course and seemed to take everything in stride. This was the man that Peter Parker admired and ended up working for. Otto displays a gentle personality overall, not scolding Peter for his tardiness any more than he feels he has to. Otto possesses an extremely high intellect. He was just very humble about it, with the focus being on WAS.
Sadly, this is not the man he is now... no, this man is still somewhere behind the entity the world has come to call Doctor Octopus. As Doctor Octopus, Otto's personality shifts towards a vengeful, calculating individual with sociopathic tendencies. Otto considers himself the most intelligent person on the planet, and he could never be wrong due to his massive intellect. This confidence in his intelligence frequently causes him to ignore certain factors that could derail his plans, leaving him unprepared for when these factors come into play. He is still ambitious but far less moral about it. He is driven by a desire for vengeance, recognition, and success in his scientific endeavours. Doctor Octopus is increasingly aggressive, arrogant, prone to mood swings, paranoid and self-righteous in his crusade against Norman.
Then, of course, there is his relationship with Peter Parker. During the two years Peter worked for Octavius Industries, Otto came to see Peter as a son and close friend. He admires his innate ability and altruism but is often irritated with his chronic lateness. He was able to deduce that he was Spider-Man very quickly but has yet to reveal it to anyone. He trusted Peter enough to share his "complicated" past with Normal Osborn. Doctor Octopus still admires Peter... and his feelings towards the former prodigy is complicated. Maybe it was the influence of the neural interface that skewed all of his previous worldviews, essentially embracing the exact opposite of what he originally stood for. This change extended to Peter, whom he wrongly believed conspired with Norman to steal his ideas.
Still, all is not lost. There is a part of Otto still left behind, Doctor Octopus. The Otto that regrets breaking Peter's heart and, deep inside, wants to atone... somehow—a prisoner to his paranoia and the influence of his metallic arms.

History:
School & Oscorp
Otto Octavius was born in Schenectady, New York, to a modest family. He grew up as an only child and endured a difficult upbringing with an overbearing mother and an abusive father. Whether it was at home or school, Otto often found himself the target of physical abuse from his father and school bullies. Despite his lack of friends, he excelled academically.
After completing high school, Otto gained acceptance into the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) for his university education. During his first year at M.I.T., Otto's father, Torbert, tragically lost his life in a construction accident, an event for which Otto secretly felt relief. Otto maintained a close bond with his mother, but her attachment grew to the point of jealousy due to Otto's significant time spent at school.
It was during his college years that Otto Octavius crossed paths with his future business partner and first friend, Norman Osborn. Together, they co-founded Oscorp, a company with grand aspirations to make a positive impact on the world. According to Otto, the name "Oscorp" was a nod to the shared "O" in their last names (Osborn and Octavius).
In 1986, a young boy named Martin Li visited Oscorp seeking medical advice for a mysterious, long-standing medical ailment. Unbeknownst to Octavius, Osborn secretly had the boy administered with an early iteration of an experimental serum. This unapproved treatment led to a tragic incident where Li's parents lost their lives, and Martin himself gained extraordinary superhuman abilities. Appalled by Norman's reckless and unethical actions, Otto took legal action, ultimately departing from Oscorp after reaching a settlement. This decision severed his friendship with Norman, marking the end of an era.
Otto would go on to found his own company, Octavius Industries. However, he could not reach the same level of success that he had at Oscorp and was forced to rely on grants for finance.
Another part he has not told anyone about is the cause of the sudden death of his mother. When Otto discovered his mother hypocritically dating behind his back, he blew up in rage at her. During his confrontation with his mother, she died of a heart attack, leaving Otto with bitterness at being the cause of his mother's death.
Parker's Internship
It would be difficult to find a meeting which would come to change Otto's life more than his with a brilliant young man by the name of Peter Parker. Their first proper meeting occurred shortly after Parker graduated from Empire State University, with Otto being very impressed with Peter's work even from those earlier years. He was so impressed with Peter's intellect and shortly after offered him a research assistant position at his own little company. Sadly, he declined the first offer, which hurt Otto's feelings. Thankfully, he would come around before long.
He had heard that Peter had left his job at the Daily Bugle, and it was not a surprise for Otto when Peter turned up, asking if the assistant position was still open. Otto felt that something had caused this sudden change, but it was only until much later that he realized why Peter had quit. Octavius was more than delighted to welcome Peter into the fold, and the two began a prosperous friendship, with Otto doing his best to live up to being the scientific mentor Peter had always dreamed of.
While Peter had a habit of regularly being late for work, Otto never resented him for it. Peter was a young man with a life, and Otto would not dream of preventing him from living, even more so since he was in a relationship with a bright young woman. No, Otto remained in silent awe of Peter's knack for what he terms "guerrilla science".
Loss of Grant
With Octavius Industries relying exclusively on grants for income, it came as a heavy blow for Otto when Mayor Osborn decided to revoke it; without tangible results in the near future, they faced the imminent risk of losing their funding and disbanding. Otto, a man known for his meticulous planning and backup strategies, was well-prepared. He left Peter in the dark, however, that Otto was developing a progressive neurological disorder that would gradually erode his motor function. In response, Otto had been diligently working on and refining prosthetic limb technology, creating a set of advanced new limbs. These innovative prosthetics included four tentacle-like appendages mounted on his back, each equipped with versatile claws.
Additionally, a neural transmitter was affixed to the back of his head. This technological marvel allowed Octavius to enhance his mobility beyond his previous capabilities. Thanks to the neural interface, he could control these arms with nothing more than his thoughts.
He was forced to reveal this to Peter anyway, and he knew the young prodigy was feeling betrayed by the lack of trust. Honestly, it was more pride than trust which prevented Octavius from telling him sooner. Otto didn't want to ask for permanent outside funding or medical treatment. Yet, the disappointment in Peter's eyes... did hurt. He had also been a little worried that the youngster would be unwilling to help unless Otto had more than just theories to show him, which had been silly in hindsight.
Ultimately, due to the diligent efforts of both himself and Peter, they successfully constructed these highly advanced mechanical arms. Which thankfully helped the company stay afloat for the time being. The arms had the incredible potential of helping others with similar disorders, not to mention their possible application in various industries. Shortly after the demonstration, an accident damaged the interface as he kept working out its kinks together with Peter. Octavius reluctantly agreed to pause the research long enough for him to recover, but something had changed. It did not happen instantly, but he began to get strange thoughts and felt more and more paranoid like a voice warning him that others were after his research. Not even Peter could really be trusted. At first, Otto did his best to ignore these voices, these thoughts and feelings. But they were starting to take a toll on his psyche.
Yet, maybe his thoughts were not entierly unfounded? Otto began to notice an unusual change in Peter's behaviour, he was more prone to take risks that he would never have done before. He also found out that Peter had broken up with his girlfriend, with the motivationen that he needed to focus on who he wanted to be. The voices, and visions, began to tell him how Peter was just going to betray him like Osborn had done. Sure, he was suddenly very helpful, but no person would undergo such a change in personality unless they had a reason for it.
This revelation pushed Otto over the edge, prompting him to reactivate the flawed neural interface and engage his mechanical arms. In his new persona as Doctor Octopus, one of his initial actions was to investigate the backgrounds of the major supervillains imprisoned in the Raft, offering them deals to join his cause. After breaking them out, he assembled the Sinister Six and set his plan into motion: launching attacks on Osborn's assets throughout the city, and forcing Osborn to admit his secrets.

"Oh, Parker... If you want to change the world, you must be the kind of man who can make the hardest decisions."
While Peter managed to thwart most of Doctor Octopus's plans, he could not prevent a final confrontation with his old employer. At that point, Otto was very much being manipulated by a combination of his own paranoia, and the voices from the AI controlling his tentacle arms whispering into his mind at all hours of the day. His thought patterns had changed, and released forth aspects of him he previously kept subdued.
A climactic battle ensued on top of Oscorp Tower after Osborn was rescued. During this final confrontation, Otto disclosed to Peter that he had known Peter's secret identity as Spider-Man all along. Peter realizes that the Otto he once knew was gone. Ultimately, Spider-Man defeated Doctor Octopus by deactivating the neural interface, leaving Otto to be apprehended by the authorities. Otto did take note on the slight change in the way Peter acted during their confrontation, more willing to take risks, the same change he had seen in their work. The fact that his suit had changed to black did not strike the doctor as important until afterwards. He had also torn off his black suit, which turned out to be some kind of mysterious organism that Otto had never seen before.

His artificial limbs were removed, and he was incarcerated in the Raft with the other villains. Following his imprisonment, Octavius Industries was gone.
Escape from the Raft
Doctor Octopus spent a while locked up at the Raft, but this was also part of his plan, just enough time to make sure the city would relax... enough for him to make a break for it. What Peter did not know, nor had he counted on it, was that Doc Ock had a spare neural interface hidden upon his person, nor had the young hero known that the scientist could control the tentacles remotely, even when they were not attached to his body.
The break was swift. Using his new interface, he took control of the tentacles in storage and used the chaos to escape, reuniting with his invention and disappearing into the night. By the time Peter managed to get to the Raft, Doctor Octopus was long gone, only the destruction in his wake left.
Meeting Venom & escape from Stryker Penitentiary
Sometime after his initial escape, Doctor Octopus happened upon the remains of a fight between Spider-Man and a creature known as Venom. He was intrigued by Peter's new nemesis and had made distant analyses of the symbiote itself, going so far back as to when Peter fought him, it was clearly the same creature as the black suit Peter had pulled off himself during their battle. But now it was fighting against Peter instead of with him. He concluded that the symbiote could be a useful weapon and tried to coerce Venom to leave Eddie and fight with him instead. He had nearly managed to remove and safely contain the symbiote. Still, an intervention of the personal soldiers of Stryker's Penitentiary arriving on the scene interrupted the process, causing both Otto and Eddie to be captured and detained within Stryker's.
In the case of Doctor Octopus, this incarceration lasted even less of a time than it had at the Raft. He escaped even before they could get him into the place. It was not designed with Doctor Octopus in mind, and they failed to understand how powerful his cybernetic tentacles could be. And he had also modified them since his escape from the Raft. Sadly, getting his hands on Venom seemed a loss cause, so he moved on.
He began to modify his tentacles further, experimenting heavily on them until the point where his previously exposed neural interface was permanently and surgically attached to his spine, making removal of it... more complicated than what Peter had once done. He also began to work on other potential inventions towards his goal of getting back at Norman and Spider-Man. At the same time, Octavius continued to struggle with his delusions, switching between blaming Peter for his plan failing and wanting to atone for what he did.
Without either medication or mental help, it is likely a battle he will lose in the long run, becoming less and less of Otto Octavius and more and more Doctor Octopus. Right now, the part of him that still is Otto refuses to use his knowledge about Spider-Man's true identity... at least for now.
Role Play Sample:
" And in the end, the monster escaped anyway! I ask you, what good are these so-called "heroes" if they let the bad guys run away?!" Said the voice of J. Jonah Jameson from the old TV standing on a stack of junk. "We need to ask ourselves, is it worth having these idiots in tights running around, doing as they please? I say, nay, a menace to society, the lot of them!"
Dr Octavius ignored the TV, carefully adjusting the attachments on one of his mechanical tentacles. He had spent the last few days working to diagnose them, making sure they would not fail him when in a pinch. But these were far from ideal circumstances to be in, and using junk tools was far from optimal, but he was not one to back away from the challenge of engineering. Thankfully, he had been able to steal a few things as he escaped from Stryker, not much, but enough to get by. He flexed the claw, watching as it opened and closed, and spun it around a few times before feeling satisfied.
Otto straightened himself and turned to look at the rudimentary laboratory he had constructed for himself, and he had lucked out on finding an abandoned part of the sewers, which was enough to serve his purposes without being detected if you ignored the smell. Around him were different inventions in various levels of completion, combined with left-over food and piles of papers with notes and calculations.
"Back to work," Otto muttered to himself, turning to what looked like a weirdly shaped rifle mounted on a hook from the ceiling. It had several parts that looked like they would turn around, with a small sphere on a rod where the barrel would have normally been. Octavius fetched it from the hook and gently placed it on the workbench before grabbing a few tools from a nearby rack. "Nearly finished, my beauty."
" And there is the menace himself, off to cause more havoc no doubt!"
Doctor Octavius looked up at the TV, seeing as the camera was catching the familiar figure of Spider-Man swinging past and away from the camera. He gritted his teeth and gripped around the wrench he held in one of his claws until the tool snapped in half. Another day saved, well, not according to Jameson. "We will show them, won't we..." He said out into the room.
Then it came, for a split second, the flash of a pair of striking brown eyes filled with disappointment, compassion, and sadness. A young man pained by betrayal, and worry.
"I'll do everything I can. I'll make sure you get the best help--"
NO! If they put me away, they'll take my arms! I'll be trapped in this useless body! Please, Peter. That.. wasn't me. You said you'd never abandon me. You promised, remember? And, of course, you'll rest easy... knowing your secret is safe with me.
"You do what you think is best, Doc. It's all any of us can."
Peter?
"Even when it hurts like hell."
Peter? Where are you going? PETER! PETER!!!
Otto gasped, dropping all the tools before staggering backwards, clasping at his head. "Why did you not listen to me! I did-I did what I had to! You could have joined me-We could have- I should have". His voice echoed and vanished into the darkness. Octavius gritted his teeth, lashed out and shoved a pile of junk from a nearby table, before letting out a scream. Before long, he lowered his arms, and seemed to shrink as his shoulders sank. "I'm-sorry, Peter." and then the moment was over, his face smoothed out, and he steadied himself with a deep breath. "He had his chance, and now he's nothing but a traitor."
