She is fiercely independent, having lived on her own for so long. Orihime has a knack for seeing into people's souls and perceiving problems and issues they might be having in secret.
History
[spoil]Orihime and her brother, Sora Inoue, has an unhappy childhood. They were raised by a drunken father and a prostitute mother, who always argued and beat their children. Fearing that their parents would kill Orihime, Sora ran away with Orihime when he turned 18, and she was 3 years old, raising her on his own. For 9 years, Orihime and Sora lived happily together in a peaceful household, not having to worry about parental abuse. They loved each other, both of them helping the other through their lives.
Orihime was bullied in school, due to her unusual hair colour, which the other students assumed was dyed or fake. One day, seeing his sister was upset, Sora gave Orihime a pair of hairpins. Orihime refused to wear them because she said they were childish. That day, Sora died, hit by a car on the way home from work. Orihime began wearing the hairpins every day to remember him, and remember the harsh words she had said about them to him. She vowed to be kind after that, to never speak a bad word and always be thankful for what she had.
After Sora's death, Orihime prayed for him every day. A year after Sora died, Orihime met Tatsuki Arisawa and befriended her. She began to forget her sadness about Sora, now able to make new friends and have people to rely on. After entering Karakura High School, she stopped praying for him, instead talked about Ichigo Kurosaki before she left and when she returned from school. She wanted to show Sora that she was happy and that he did not have to worry about her.
Sora returned, after the arrival of the Shinigami, Rukia Kuchiki. In the form of a hollow, he attacked Orihime and threatened to eat her. He was jealous that she only spoke of Ichigo, that she didn't pray for him any more. As Ichigo himself arrived and fought him off, Orihime explained she just wanted him to know she was happy. Sora stopped the assault on his little sister, allowing his soul to be cleansed and pass on to the next world.
Orihime's powers revealed themselves as she protected Tatsuki from another hollow attack, brought on by the Quincy, Uryu Ishida. The Shun Shun Rikka helped defeat the enemy and heal her friend, showing that Orihime didn't have to rely just on others any more. Since that day, she trained with Tatsuki in karate and tried to better understand her own powers. Tatsuki had found her own abilities and they trained together, strengthening their bond and their abilities together.
When Rukia was captured and returned to Soul Society, Orihime joined Tatsuki, Uryu, Sado and Ichigo to go save her. She felt her powers growing as she entered the world of death, a strength that lingered with her the whole time. Although she was no match for the Shinigami and the malicious Captain Kurotsuchi, Orihime managed to help people along the way. As they left Soul Society and Rukia behind, Orihime knew that she had to move forward with her abilities and personal strengths.
After the cooldown of Soul Society, Orihime approached Urahara with a request. She wanted to be strong like her friends! Since then, she trained with the humble shop owner, strengthening her resolve and her abilities![/spoil]

Physical Abilities
While a pacifist by nature, Orihime harbours a physical prowess that can take some people off guard. Her martial art expertise, trained since she was a young girl, are enough to fight unarmed Shinigami and restrain enemies that come near. She is agile and swift, able to keep up with her allies in combat and take on enemies by ducking and weaving around their attacks.

Shun Shun Rikka (Six Flowers of the Hibiscus Shield): Orihime's spirit energy is harbored in the pair of six-petal flower-shaped hairpins that her brother gave her. Shun Shun Rikka is composed of six spirits that reside within the hairpins, each of which is two petals on the clip when inactive.
Santen Kesshun (Three Sacred Links Shield): Orihime's defensive technique. It repels attacks by placing a shield between the enemy and target.
Sōten Kisshun (Twin Sacred Return Shield): Orihime's "healing" technique. It surrounds something to return it to its former, complete state.

The wind shifted through her hair as Orihime stood before the plain, old-fashioned building. She had been there before, what felt like years ago when she had travelled to Soul Society with Ichigo, Uryu, Tatsuki and Sado. She still felt their presence there... especially Ichigo's, a powerful, yet comforting, aura that lingered in every corner of this place. Orihime took a deep breath. Steady. Calm. Ready. A step towards the shop, and another. Inside was Urahara... and the potential for a new outlook on life. She would get stronger, not just to protect her friends, but to make sure they weren't worried about her. Another step. Orihime felt a knot in her stomach. What if he turned her away?
The door swung open as she approached. He must have known she was coming. Urahara smiled as she stopped, bowing deeply.
"Mr. Urahara! I... want you to train me, please!"
She looked up, at his smirking face. Then he beckoned her forward. Relief flooded through Orihime's system. It was time to train!
