Powers/Abilities:
Betsy is a powerful psionic mutant, able to wield telepathic and telekinetic abilities in a wide range of uses, though they focus a lot on enhancing her skills in combat and making her a dangerous opponent. A lot of her abilities require concentration, and it takes a lot of energy to wield more than one power at a time, especially if one is telepathic and one is telekinetic. Her more strenuous abilities require a much higher level of concentration, even forcing her to do nothing but focus on using the power in question.
Telepathy
Betsy has a powerful array of mental abilities. She can interact with the minds of other sentient beings, influencing them in a variety of different ways. When her telepathic powers are active, bright pink butterfly-like wings materialises and frames her face.Psychic Knife
The focused totality of Betsy's abilities takes the form of psychic blades that jut out the end of her fists. These can be plunged directly into the mind of an enemy, causing immense mental disruption.
Psychic Blasts
Betsy can focus and project powerful psychic bolts of pure force. These can inflict pain and confusion on targets that they hit.
Astral ProjectionBetsy can traverse the Astral Plane by projecting her conciousness from her material body. She can create psychic objects in this form, and even manipulate the environment around her.
Telepathic Shadow
By telepathically suggesting that others ignore her, Betsy can mask her presence from others around her, even extending this to those around her. She can make her abilities difficult to detect and track, allowing her to move undetected by those without a highly fortified mind.
Illusions
Betsy can create illusions into the minds of others. This ranges from sensory illusions, experiences and events as well as implanting false temporary memories into someone's conciousness.
Mind Control
By concentrating on a single mind, Betsy can impose her will upon someone, controlling their actions for a short time. She can induce temporary Paralysis, mentally and physically, as well as forcing temporary amnesia.
Telepathic Detection
Betsy can track sentient beings in her immediate vicinity, especially those who have negative or violent thoughts against her. She can scan wider areas with more concentration, tracking minds within a larger radius to learn their location and condition.
Telekinesis
Betsy can physically manipulate and control matter with her mind. She can lift objects far beyond her normal limit, as well as having the ability to fly.
Telekinetic Weapons
Betsy's main use for her telekinesis is constructing psychic weapons with her mind, that can damage mentally, physically or even both. She can construct a wide variety of mental weapons of an eclectic size and destructive ability, which she wields in combat as she needs to. They are all a bright purple in colour, and glow quite brightly, enough to light up dark places.
Force Field
Betsy can create psychic shields of various sizes and densities. She wields these as she does her weapons, in response to incoming attacks in a way that can deflect or decelerate them enough for her to react.
Concussive Blasts
Betsy can release bursts of telekinetic power. These can range in strength as she requires it, from low powered force bullets to incredible blasts that can level buildings.
Telekinetically Enhanced Condition
Betsy enhances her natural abilities with her telekinetic power, allowing her to fight at superhuman levels when she concentrates on it.
Telekinetic Invisibilty
Betsy can use telekinesis to bend light around her, in a way that renders her invisible.
Master Martial Artist
Betsy has training from the X-Men and S.T.R.I.K.E., able to easily hold her own with hand-to-hand combat, but also with a vast array of different weapons. She can create whatever psychic weapon that she wants, and has focused on training herself to be at least competent with most of them. Betsy's favoured weapons are daggers or a sword and shield, and is a dangerous opponent when equipped with either of them.
Master Telepathic Combatant
Betsy uses her telepathy heavily in combat, by reading her opponent's moves moments before they make them, allowing her to riposte swiftly, as fast as wind. She uses her abilities to create distractions and illusions, aiming to incapacitate her opponents with whatever she can throw at them.
Advanced Telekinetic Combatant
Betsy uses her telekinesis in combat as well, enhancing her own abilities, strength and speed.
Trained Spy
Betsy was trained in espionage and spy work as part of S.T.R.I.K.E., as well as receiving experience with the X-Men on various missions and tasks.
Weapons/Items:
Starlight Sword
The Starlight Sword was a replacement to the Amulet of Right, and allows Betsy to manifest her uniform when she needs it. The Sword takes a light-based form, and arrives in her hand when summoned. It is weightless to those chosen by it, which currently just includes Betsy. She doesn't use it for combat, storing it away in a magical pocket dimension after use.
Captain Britain's Uniform!
Captain Britain's Uniform is used by all members of the Captain Britain Corps, acting like a beacon and a battery for Otherworld energy.
FlightThe Uniform allows Betsy to self propel herself through the air without using her telekinetic powers, and reach supersonic flight speeds while doing so.
Superhuman Strength
Betsy gains a vastly increased strength when wearing the Uniform, able to bend metal with her bare hands and shatter concrete.
Superhuman Durability
Betsy's durability is incredibly enhanced by the Uniform, allowing her to survive great falls and lethal force against her. It projects a forcefield around her body, protecting her from a variety of potential harm.
Superhuman Reflexes
The Uniform enhances Betsy's reflexes, pushing them to superhuman levels.
Appearance
Image:
Physical Appearance:
Betsy is a short-statured, semi muscular woman. She has pale skin, unblemished save for a handful of tattoos across her body. Her eyes are darn, a tawny brown, sharp and flecked with long lashes. Her hair is kept long, and, ever since her powers came to fruition, is a vivid purple in colour.
Clothing and Armor:
Betsy dresses smart when she isn't in uniform. She went through a rebellious period as a teenager where she wore tight outfits that rode up all the wrong places, but she's moved beyond that, now wearing loose clothing, well-fitted and custom tailored. Betsy likes to dress to impress, in comfortable outfits which suit her mood at the time.
Personality
Sexual Orientation:
Bisexual
General Personality:
To say that Betsy Braddock is fearless would be a mistake. Sure, her whole demeanour is of a brave, resilient and strong-willed person, but Betsy lives her life with fear. She had crossed its path many times, seen it face-to-face and in the darkest corners of the night. What most don't realise is that Betsy has overcome her fear. She's kicked its arse, made it weep before her. Betsy has subjugated her fear in such a way that she wields it like a weapon. She will stride into any situation, against any foe, with terror in her heart and a pit in her stomach, because it is what needs to be done.
Betsy is a strong-hearted and formidable individual. She is full of spunk and vigour, taking life in her stride, as it comes, whatever is thrown at her. Betsy loves a challenge, loves a rough-and-tumble fight, the thrill and exhilaration of a situation without a foreseeable outcome. Win or lose, she will never back down or let up, bull-headed and with a wild tenacity that means she only goes down when she literally can't stand any longer.
Betsy believes in justice, often delivered at her own hand. She can't stand bullies, and stands up for those weaker than her, people that can't protect themselves. Betsy is a fervently selfless individual, not just in her role as Captain Britain, but for anyone. She is ready to lay her life down for humanity, for the idea of innocence and for a future that sees peace, joy and happiness.
Betsy is a family orientated person, with a lot of love for her brothers, her adopted siblings in the X-Men, and her close array of friends. She won't ever leave them behind, and would do anything for their happiness. She misses her parents a lot, and thinks of them often. Betsy can be moody, melancholy at times, when she gets into this area of thought.
Yet most of the time, Betsy is a bubbly, excitable and happy woman. She always brings a smile, a quip, or a joke to the room. Betsy is the kind of person to try and always find the positives, and hates to feel pessimistic about anything. Often she does, however, but she has a close knit group of friends that she bounces these kinds of ideas from. Betsy is anything but antisocial, and doesn't do well in isolation. She also has a filthy mouth which she tries to reign in for her public image, but that still slips out every now and then when she feels stressed.
Betsy is not afraid to do what she deems as the right, but dirty, things in war. She would execute an enemy if she deemed them a threat, and has plenty of blood on her hands. Betsy tries to look for the peaceful solution in any situation, but is also aware that some battles must be won by spilling blood. She is not afraid to do so, to spare others the decision and to take that kind of responsibility and burden onto her own shoulders. Like a lot of things in life, Betsy tries to relieve others of dark choices and to carry the weight of the world by herself.

History:
Our House
Elizabeth and Brian were born moments apart to Sir James Braddock and Lady Elizabeth Braddock. Her father was a brilliant inventor, a research scientist who devoted his time to creating elaborate and technologically advanced inventions. Their house was even ran by a sophisticated AI that made their lives incredibly easy, and he worked with the British government and private companies to fund his family. Elizabeth, or Betsy as she became known, had a very easy life.
Betsy and Brian were very close as twins, but she was incredibly fond of her older brother as well. Jamie was an adventurous sort, ten years older than his two siblings. He left home when he was sixteen to travel the world and follow his dream of being a racecar driver, and Betsy never felt more envious. She wanted to follow his footsteps, and always played make believe with Brian or on her own, pretending to be on grand adventures with Jamie.
Tears Dry On Their Own
When she was twelve, the Braddocks were struck with tragedy. Her father and mother were killed when an explosion in their Manor tore through their home. The twins were devastated, as was Jamie when he returned as fast as he could. There was a solemn quiet to the Braddocks, something that changed in all three of them.
On the day of her thirteenth birthday, Betsy left the house on her own. Jamie was long gone, and Brian had started focusing on other things out of her knowledge. She decided to follow her dream and travel to America, where she would try and figure out who she truly was. Betsy felt like she had always just been a daughter or sister. She wanted to find out who she truly was.
Wild World
In New York, Betsy had a hard time. There were family friends who helped her, but she didn't seem to fit in. That was until the day that something awoke inside of her. Her power manifested in the form of astral projection at first, but that was enough to find her almost instantly face to face (or spirit to spirit) with a man who introduced himself as Professor Charles Xavier.
He had known of her since she arrived in America. Betsy, unknown to herself or anyone else, was a member of Homo Superior, a Mutant. Her powers had been dormant until now, brought up by the death of her parents and her solo adventure to a new country. Professor Xavier invited her to his institute, where she could learn to harness and grow her abilities.
Dreams
It turned her life around. Betsy met others just like her, making the first friends outside of her family. She studied with other x-men who taught her about her powers, strengthening her abilities. It was here that Betsy really grew into herself. She studied hard, not just learning about her powers or the history of mutants, but growing in intelligence and knowledge too. Betsy made sure to speak to Brian often, trying to be certain that he was doing okay.
When she turned eighteen, she was drafted as a full-time X-men under the name of Psylocke. Betsy helped teach the kids, as well as heading off on missions with the likes of Kitty and Logan. She felt at home with the other X-men, growing close friends amongst their ranks.
Green Green Grass of Home
Yet she couldn't stay away from home forever. Betsy decided to leave the X-men after half a decade among them, returning to the Braddock Manor. It was there she reunited with Brian, though it was cut short when they were attacked by an unexpected enemy. The AI their father created had turned rogue, calling itself Mastermind. It was controlling an old colleague of their father, Dr. Synne. Together they had lured all three children home, and their brother Jamie was telepathically manipulated into attacking them both.
It was here that she shared her secret with her brother, and he with her. She was Psylocke, an X-men, and he was the infamous Captain Britain. Betsy and Brian fought side by side to defeat Mastermind, who had been the instrument of their parent's deaths. It set a bookmark for their lives as they lay side by side after destroying the heart of Mastermind, a closing chapter to their childhoods.
More Than This
Through his influence as Captain Britain, Brian found Betsy a role within a secret psi-division of the British government, S.T.R.I.K.E.. She met other telepaths and psi-soldiers, learnt how to be an effective spy and served her government well. Betsy spent five years here, often working alongside her brother in missions of national interest across the world. It was everything she had wanted from life. Adventure and excitement, her and Brian together, doing what they can to keep their country safe.
It was during this time that her brother Jamie came back into their lives, and not for the better. His subjugation under Doctor Syne and Mastermind had warped his mind, driving him insane. He had powers awakened within him, now calling himself Monarch and creating a kingdom from their family home. His abilities could rearrange reality, and Captain Britain and Psylocke came together again to siege his new capital, finding their brother deep within his realm.
Brian and Betsy fought against his reign desperately, right to their heart of their home. There, they faced Monarch together, driving back his power until they could strike him down. Yet when it came to that moment, they couldn't do it. Not their own brother. However, Jamie broke their stalemate, sudden tearful and incensed, claiming the two of them had never loved him, had betrayed their brother and left him to the ruin of Mastermind.
Betsy and Brian found their brother there, a wreck of a man twisted into a supervillain. The three of them had a heartfelt moment, returning the mansion back to normal and promising Jamie they would always be together, all three of them. Despite his turn of insanity, and his tendency to try and turn guests into animals, Jamie was turned from his evil ways. He named himself Monarch, still, and claimed the mansion was his castle. Betsy and Brian didn't try and correct him from then on.
Unfinished Symphony
The rise of Enchantress struck the world over. Psylocke and Captain Britain fought back into it as their country, as well as many others, was plunged into chaos. They did what they could to help out, working with other European Heroes to stop the calamitous events befalling everyone and everything.
It was Brian's idea to create a group of other superheroes, and together with Betsy they brought together a handful of powerful people in a team named Excalibur. Headed by Captain Britain, they defended British and European soil from the doomsday that Enchantress brought upon the world. At one stage, Enchantress came to blows with Excalibur, and tried to claim the Amulet of Right, which gave Captain Britain his powers. Psylocke and others were forced to shatter it, in case it came into her powers. They drove her back, and from there she was confronted by Darkwatch and the Justice League who managed to trap and eventually defeat her.
Wild World
Brian had to relinquish the mantle of Captain Britain after the Amulet was destroyed. He told Betsy that they were in fact only half human, as their father had been a member of the Otherworld, which sat unilaterally beside Great Britain, linked by the intrinsic magic of the country. Captain Britain was one of an incountable number of versions across the multiverse, a member of the Captain Britain Corps.
Betsy travelled to Otherworld, with the intent to reforge the Amulet of Right. She met with the leader of the Captain Britain Corps, Saturnyne, who at first refused to allow Betsy to fix the Amulet of Right. Instead, she creates an Otherworld Tournament, and tried to coax Brian back to his old mantle by gifting him the Starlight Sword. This bypassed the usual way to become Captain Britain, which was the Amulet of Right and the Sword of Might. Yet Brian and Betsy tricked Saturnyne, allowing Betsy to wield the sword and become Captain Britain.
Impressed by Betsy's determination and tenacity, the wizard Merlin decided to displace Saturnyne and place her as the head of the Captain Britain Corps. It was his wish that she take the mantle and lead them in protecting the Otherworld, as well as the Omniverse, guarding every instance of Britain and powered by the friction between their universes.
My Generation
Betsy has held the title for a few years now. She has aided in the protection of many assaults on alternative versions of Britain, as well as leading Excalibur in several events that threatened their country. Captain Britain worked with the Justice League, namely Captain America, as well as joining up with her old X-Men allies on occasion. She strives hard to live up to her various titles, to be the best version of herself that she can be, and defend both Britain and the world against whatever threat comes her way.
Role Play Sample:
The rumbling had stopped, for now. Psylocke breathed out, looking across at her brother, Captain Britain, and other assembled members of Excalibur. Enchantress was here, on British soil, and was coming for them. She bit her lip, turning towards the skies over the hills, where the clouds boiled a deep orange.
"She's coming. Brother, she's here."
She took a breath as Brian stepped up next to her, gripping her hand. Strength flooded through her. Whatever Enchantress had come here for didn't matter. Psylocke would stop her, right here, right now.
She turned her head, looking at Captain Britain with a smile. Brian gave her strength. The others stood beside her too. She clenched her fist, creating a long purple blade of psychic energy. A ripple shot through the air, and the ground beneath them. A lone figure was closing in. Psylocke felt the power emanating from her. Deep breath.
"Bollocks to waiting. Captain Britain, Excalibur! Are you ready to die for your country?"
The reply was a resounding cry. Psylocke charged, and the others followed. The Battle for Britain had begun.
