Captain America was gifted the shield during his service, and he has kept it ever since. It is incredibly resilient, able to rebound from surfaces without disrupting its movement, allowing Steve to have great control and aim when he releases it. It is resistant to penetration, extreme temperatures and the entire spectrum of radiation. To date, nothing has even been able to dent it.

Appearance
Image:
Physical Appearance:
Steve is an Adonis of a person, 6'2" and 240lbs of pure muscle. His physical characteristics were enhanced tenfold by the Super-Soldier Syrum, turning a fairly okay looking kid from Brooklyn into a chiseled, handsome man that wears a smile that embodies the spirit of Free America itself. He has dazzling blue eyes, blond hair which always looks great, and light skin that is unblemished and untainted by ink or scars. Steve's muscles are incredible, bulging from any clothes that he wears, pecs like anvils, legs like tree-trunks. It's hard to miss him in a crowd, as he stands out over most other people in both width and height. Steve is the peak of humankind, in more than ability but also in appearance.
Clothing and Armor:
Steve's clothes are very simple, very standard. He doesn't do fashion, and will wear whatever suits (and fits) at the time.
The Captain America suit is a different matter. Overall it is a deep blue, made of a near bulletproof and stabproof material, like Kevlar but somewhat more durable. He has a harness for his shield, which is magnetic and strong enough to hold onto his weapon even in the most dire of situations. The helmet that covers most of his head offers more protection, revealing most of his face in a way that makes him recognisable, adorned with a large white A on the forehead. The suit is adorned with white stars and stripes, accentuated with dark black portions that are part fashion and part breathable material.
Personality
Sexual Orientation:
Straight
General Personality:
Steve is the embodiment of a truly good man, a pure and decent human being whose positive personality slices through the negativity and evil of the world. He is a truly selfless man, always willing to put his life on the line no matter what, and never backs down from a fight. Steve could be knocked down a thousand times, but would still get up one more time. He is a force of nature, a fiercely loyal man to truth and justice, a man who is loyal only to the idea of freedom and who knows the difference between right and wrong. Steve had been on the wrong side of many powerful people who think they can control him for their own ways, due to the fact he is loyal to nobody but the timeless principles of freedom, equality, and justice of the American Dream (not just for Americans, either, but for anyone).
Steve is charismatic, funny and sarcastic when he wants to be. He tries his best to make anyone comfortable and feel at ease around him, and is a charming speaker, a strong leader and a man worth following in many people's eyes. Steve does the job that needs to be done, whatever the cost, and brings out the best in other people as he does it. Inversely, he strips down his enemies and bullies in his path, often talking them into submission before he needs to swing a fist. As far as violence goes, it is a means to an end, but Steve will do his upmost not to harm someone if he doesn't need to. Everyone gets a chance to give up first.
Steve has an immense sense of honour. In battle, he refuses to use underhand tactics to gain an advantage. Steve doesn't believe in preemptive strikes, or attacking a target before they even make a move, even if that could potentially end a conflict. For him, it isn't worth the gamble. Corruption and greed are huge red flags for him, and he will fight against it however he can, even if it is from his own side. When it comes down to it, Steve has no allies but his own morals.

History:
Steve was born to poor Irish immigrant parents in Brooklyn. They had arrived after the end of the first world war, coming to a new country to make a new life for themselves and their future family. From a young age, Steve was taught about being a compassionate man, with a great sense of duty and justice, traits his parents saw as being important. Though they both died when Steve was a boy, their lessons and words stayed with him all through his young years. Steve was sent to an orphanage, and soon found that there were other boys living with him that liked to pick on the smaller ones, the meeker ones. Despite the fact that he was a scrawny kid, barely a pound of muscle on his bones, Steve stood up for others around him, squaring off to bullies even if they were twice his size. He got beaten up a lot, beaten down and kicked about. Yet, no matter what the cost, no matter how much pain he was in, Steve always got back on his feet.
During one brawl in the street, Steve was saved by an older boy name Bucky, who helped him fight off some teenagers who were picking on one of the other orphans. After that, Bucky and Steve became close friends, and soon Steve would spend most of his time in the Barnes' home. He might have been an orphan, but they all but adopted him as one of their own. Steve and Bucky were brothers, in everything but blood, bound by friendship and loyalty to one another. For Steve, who had never had a brother and had no living family to speak of, Bucky was the most important person in his life. They had each other's backs, both wielding a sense of justice and fairness that played off of one another in perfect harmony. Where Bucky lacked restraint, he made up with unyielding loyalty. Where Steve had a lack of muscles, he compensated with an unbreakable resolve, and bravery beyond the limits of his body. They were the perfect pair, well known in their neighbourhood and others as friends to the weak and the bane of any bully that tried to pick on someone smaller than them.
Life changed when Bucky enlisted into the U.S. army. America had declared war on Nazi Germany, and they were sending their troops to aid the European powers in their battle against the fascists, fighting under the leadership of Adolf Hitler. Bucky was old enough and keen enough, though Steve was still too young to join. He watched with growing trepidation as his friend marched off to wore, and felt ashamed that he couldn't do his part. So Steve did something that he never regretted. He signed his name on the conscription papers, forging his age to just the legal limit, and was shipped off to follow Bucky. Steve wouldn't be left behind, not when the world's biggest bully was getting away with stamping on millions of innocents. He would personally take on Hitler, if he could, but for now becoming a soldier and fighting for what was right... well, that was a start.
Steve soon found that he was going to struggle. He applied again and again, but a scrawny kid from Brooklyn was never going to cut it. His tenacity didn't go unnoticed, however. On Steve's fifth medical checkup, he was confronted by a man who said he could use someone like Steve. His name was Doctor Abraham Erskine, and he was working with a division of the army called the Strategic Scientific Reserve. Steve was given his chance to join up, and he took it without hesitation. Little did he know that Doctor Erskine had chosen him as a candidate for Project Rebirth, an idea he had brought with him from research in Germany to create a new breed of Super Soldier. He had seen the potential in this weedy kid from Brooklyn, and was certain Steve would become the best of them all.
Steve was placed in the command of Agent Peggy Carter and General Chester Phillips, the latter of which saw little potential in the scrawny welp before him. Yet they persevered, and Steve proved himself to be more than he showed. He never gave up, always keeping pace with the other recruits and not once giving in or staying down. His bravery, tenacity and resolve proved him to be the candidate that Doctor Erskine had seen in him. Agent Carter, Doctor Erskine and General Phillips took Steve with them back to Brooklyn, where a secret research lab had been created not far from where he had grown up. There, aided by Doc Savage and Agent Carter, watched by senators and generals, Steve entered the chamber which injected him with the Super-Soldier Serum, turning him from a runt into a muscular mass of a man.
Steve's life changed then and there. Within moments, an agent from the Nazi offshoot group, Hydra, assassinated Doctor Erskine, attempted to kill Steve and then fled. Steve gave chase, and realised how much his body had changed. His muscles were enormous and powerful, his legs like pistons as he chased down the assassin's getaway car, eventually catching him as he tried to escape by a submarine hidden in the Brooklyn harbour. Steve couldn't do anything as the man bit down on a cyanide capsule, speaking the words that he would grow to hate through his life.
"Hail Hydra!"
Of course, Steve figured that now he would head across to Europe to fight the Nazi regime. However, General Phillips wanted to stick him safety in a lab, as he was now the only recipient to the late Doctor Erskine's syrum. The Senator had a different plan. He saw Captain America as a cash-cow, a mascot to travel the country and sell premium bonds that would fund the war effort. Steve knew he wanted to contribute, so he accepted the offer, and began many months of travelling around the different states, flanked by dancing girls and dressed up in costume. He kind of enjoyed it, until he was shipped out to Italy to perform for real soldiers there. They booed him off stage, calling him a fake and a fraud. Steve felt ashamed, embarrassed and angry. How could he just sit at home in safety while these boys fought the real enemy? How could he have let this happen, where others spilled blood while he remained in comfort, singing and dancing instead of fighting?
It was then that he met up with Agent Carter once more. Peggy had come in secret to see him, to give him a push to abandon this charade and become the Captain America that Doctor Erskine had seen in him. The Doctor had told him to keep being a good man, and he still had the chance. Steve found out that the division he had performed for had been his old friend Bucky's, and that he and over a hundred soldiers were trapped deep within enemy lines. Agent Carter said she could get him there, and he could be a true hero for the people that mattered. Steve felt his resolve grow then and there. He took the Captain America mascot's shield, and, with Doc Savage's plane and flying expertise, they flew deep over enemy lines. Steve dropped on his own, his mind and soul steeled to do the job he needed to do, to save his friend and the other soldiers that were imprisoned there by Hydra.
Steve's abilities, his true spirit and his tenacity all showed themselves as he snuck into the base, breaking out the soldiers within. He instructed them to take out every Hydra agent they could, take weapons and vehicles and blast a route of escape out of here. It was here that it became apparent what Hydra was capable of. Their equipment was years ahead of the U.S. army, of any army, and if left in check they could dominate the world. Steve knew that he had to destroy this base, and every other base of operations that they had. First, he had to save his friend. Bucky was deep in a laboratory, under some kind of hypnotic suggestion. He tore him loose of his bonds, and the two close friends reunited after too long apart. Of course, this was the first time Bucky had seen Steve since taking the Serum. It was a shock, to say the least.
While the freed soldiers took the fight to Hydra, Steve and Bucky fought their way out. It was here that they encountered the head of Hydra, Johann Shmidt, who revealed himself to be a recipient of Doctor Erskine's syrum as well. Yet with him, it hadn't had the same effect. The evil within him had multiplied, and as he tore off his face, he revealed what he truly was; Red Skull. Steve clashed with Red Skull, but the base was collapsing around them, forcing them both to retreat. Steve returned back to base with Bucky and a hundred and fifty soldiers. General Phillips accepted him as a true Captain right there, and Steve was tasked with leading a band of soldiers to eradicate Hydra, using information he had gathered at the base to target the rest of their strongholds. Along with Bucky and other brave men, Captain America lead the newly founded Avengers into battle, deep behind enemy lines, to cripple the hidden enemy whose nefarious plans would become apparent soon enough.
The Avengers were successful in every mission. Captain America lead them to victory every time. Doc Savage had equipped him with a unique shield made of Vibranium and other materials he had salvaged on his adventures, the only one of its kind. He took this into battle, overwhelming Hydra battalions with the aid of Bucky and the Avengers. It seemed that Red Skull was on the losing side of the fight. The Avengers had one target left, a secret base where Hydra's final bastion of evil was set up. Yet this would prove to be the hardest challenge of all.
Hydra had concentrated all their power at this one place, which Steve, Agent Carter and Doc Savage discovered after months of intense speculation and information gathering. Captain America led the Avengers there, but they were outgunned for a time. Through quick thinking and tactical out-maneuvering, Steve managed to get behind the Hydra lines with Bucky, to create a way through for the rest of them. They managed to blast a hole in the defences of the Hydra base, but Red Skull had already launched his final plan. A plane, loaded with enough experimental Hydra explosive tech that it could wipe out the Eastern seaboard of America, with New York at the centre. Steve and Bucky made their way onto the craft, fighting tooth and nail to do so. Red Skull was gone, but they could save their home.
Over the frozen waters of the North Sea, Steve and Bucky fought for control, but their efforts were in vain. Bucky took it on himself to play the sacrifice, against Steve's wishes. Bucky forced Steve into an escape pod, and he was ejected before he could break free. Steve could only watch from the small porthole as the plane, and his oldest friend Bucky, exploded over the ocean with enough power to level a whole city. The blast thrust his craft deep into the ocean, where he froze over completely, going into a completely dormant state. As far as the world was concerned, Captain America had sacrificed himself to save millions. The free world went silent, lamenting the death of the hero who had lead the fight against the Nazi regime.
Seventy years passed. The world changed, countries came and went. It was a different future, and Steve awoke in an unfamiliar place. Before him stood a woman who introduced herself as Amanda Waller. They were within an organisation named A.R.G.U.S., created by Agent Carter, General Phillips and Doc Savage to protect the world in Captain America's absence, alongside the likes of the Justice Society. Waller explained that they had found Steve frozen in the ice, and that the world still needed its Captain.
Steve worked with various departments of A.R.G.U.S. for a while. He undertook international missions, fighting terrorist groups and villains, stopping atastrophes and attacks before they could cost lives. He did the job, and he did it well, but he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more he could be doing. Waller kept him moving, teaming up with other bold heroes and groups to do whatever A.R.G.U S. needed of them.
The Kree attack was a surprise to Steve, insofar that he realised for the first time that man was not alone in the universe. It was also when he fully realised that A.R.G.U.S. wasn't the only group operating to protect the world. Steve had known there were people like him, and even those beyond him. The Justice Society had been known to him in his youth, a group of silver age heroes who appeared around the time he had entered the army, and he was even more surprised to see that one of them was still active. Doctor Fate had aided the newly founded Justice League, who lead the push against the Kree invasion.
Steve was deployed by A.R.G.U.S. too, but in his opinion it was the wrong place and the wrong time. He saw that he could have made more of a difference elsewhere, and was more like a glorified security guard at his location. Waller told him to stand down when he pushed to be sent to the front, where the Justice League and others were fighting, and Steve was forced to sit and do nothing while the world was saved by others.
After the event, Steve looked into the cracks of A.R.G.U.S., and the bull-headed leaders who wanted him to do as they commanded. So he simmered, watching as the Justice League moved in their own ways, deploying swiftly to defend the planet while he was pushed to political and territorial missions instead. Steve wasn't happy, and the next global event tipped him over the edge.
A.R.G.U.S. botched a mission, releasing an ancient evil from the mind and body of June Moone. Enchantress spread her evil tendrils across the world, causing mass panic and chaos. Waller ordered Steve to stay put until they ordered him otherwise, but he was done with taking the wrong orders. He took his uniform, shield and motorbike and tore off towards the epicentre of the problem.
Captain America made a rendezvous with the Justice League, and was an honorary member in their counter-attack. They subverted plenty of disaster, facing down Enchantress on several occasions over the period of chaos. Steve himself went head-to-head with her and her minions, but eventually it was Darkwatch that too the fight to its climax. Magic defeated magic, and Doctor Strange and his magical allies trapped Enchantress, sealing her back within June.
There was the problem of what to do with June. Steve personally stood up to say she should be protected, agreeing with Doctor Fate's plan to make sure nobody but he knew of her location. It was a tense moment as Doctor Strange and a few others called for her to be imprisoned, and even a few calls for her destruction. Steve personally confronted Doctor Strange as he refused to back down, trying to defuse but also ready for a fight. In the end, Darkwatch relented, and Doctor Fate took June away to somewhere safe and secret.
Steve handed in his notice to A.R.G.U.S., and since then has been working diligently with the Justice League, as well as other groups of heroes looking to make a difference. His freedom to do what he believes is right has made a great difference on his approach to the world, and Captain America once again takes a podium as one of the growing number of superheroes saving Earth and everyone in it from the calamities that others want to cause.
Role Play Sample:
The jet tore across the skies over the Rocky Mountains, several miles over. Steve stood looking out of the open back, hand gripping the frame as the wind grasped and pulled at his clothes. A.R.G.U.S. had given him a field mission on home soil, but he couldn't help but feel like it wasn't where he needed to be. There was more pressing dangers on the horizon, and his skills could be utilised there. Waller had been strict. She had been getting more and more obstanant with him lately, ever since the Kree had landed on their shores. Steve took a breath. It was the same beaucracy that he had been fighting in the army, too.
"One minute to drop, Cap!"
Steve looked back at his pilot, and nodded. A small incursion of Hydra agents had been discovered, and all signs led to here. His blue eyes scanned the landscape below, as of he was right there in the woods and not ten miles above. Perhaps it was time to move on, but how could he do the job without the backing of someone like A.R.G.U.S.? Well, there was always...
The Justice League reminder him so much of his old army devision, the Avengers. It would be nice to feel that comrades again, and being able to go where he needed to be. Steve took his shield from his back, fixing it to his arm, putting on his helmet after.
"Five seconds!"
Steve released his grip, counting under his breath, and... leapt. He didn't need a parachute. His body was in free-fall, and he tucked in his arms to gain speed. The target was a small barn, a compound that could have been a logger's compound if it wasn't for the armed guard outside. Steve sliced though the air, aiming for the roof of the barn.
With a mighty shattering crash, he hit the roof like a cannonball hitting a sheet of paper. Steve landed with a ground-shaking thud, in the centre of some shocked looking scientists and armed guards. He rose to his feet, brushing himself off.
"Thought I'd drop in."
As the bullets started flying, he smiled to himself. Sometimes, it was nice to just be back in action.
