The worst thing about school, no matter what the school, was that the first day of a new semester was like a new day one. The subjects changed, the projects changed, some of the classes changed, even the seasons were changing. It was a whole new slew of things for every student to worry about, new or old. For Miles? Well he just needed to get past his morning alarm unscathed.
Beep beep beep beep......beep beep beep beep......beep beep beep beep
His phone trilled at him in rapid fire, high pitched beeps that rang in his ears as consciousness roused in his brain like a slow moving molasses. "Hnggg...." his eyes opened one at a time, rather unfocused as he peeked at the time and his face planted right into the pillow once more when he saw that he did indeed need to get up. The next several minutes were him getting dressed in uniform; pants, belt, shirt, jacket.....tie. At least he was allowed shoes he liked. Pulling on his shoes and tugging the laces so they were as out of the way as possible without being tied, he grabbed his bag and rolled out of bed to look around the dorm room, seems his roomie had dipped out before Miles woke up. "okay Visions....let's go" Miles opened the door, stopping for a sec to fix his hair, and slid out into the sleepy hallway of fellow students and the occasional teacher. Normally, Miles wasn't about getting breakfast before class, usually that was when he'd take care of the last minute homework assignments, but he was trying to turn over a new leaf this semester. Headphones on, and we're on our way.
School breakfasts aren't usually too great, but at least at a private school like this there was some measure of 'real food' afforded to the students. He loaded up his tray with some fruit and some whole wheat waffles, taking the lot over to a table and sitting down to munch on his food and scroll through his phone to see what his schedule for this semester would be looking like.

Miles wouldn’t have any trouble waking up or getting through the morning crowds of Visions Academy that weren’t his own. Ganke was already out, without so much as a note or idea of where he had gone off to for the new semester. Given their first year together, that was par for the course, though even as Miles made his way to breakfast, there wasn’t any sign of him there either. No one paid much mind to Miles as he found his own table in the cafeteria, content to leave him alone; not much had changed there either. He wasn’t popular, though he wasn’t resented either, by many people nor by anyone specific, really. It was a little too easy blending into a school like this. His upcoming schedule seemed to say differently. Homeroom wasn’t necessarily anything new, though he had a new teacher, by the surname of “Kwan”. In addition, Miles had an Applied Science class, under “Bradley”, English under “Moore”, and finally, a consultation “class” with his advisor… though, again, it seemed to be someone new: “Jardine”. ”Oooh, we’ve got homeroom.” A familiar face had snuck up on Miles, practically behind his shoulder as he unwittingly shared the contents of his schedule with the girl, and to a point, the two girls behind him. They were all similarly dressed: sharply, and with a finesse that spoke to their higher status, at the school and also for the families that they came from. The two girls escaped Miles’ mind, but there was no mistaking their leader: Marion Grey. While not the queen bee, she was in those same circles, a cutting-edge social diva who was as smart as she was charming… though to most, it was less charming, and more cruel. Marion moved away from Miles, giving him breathing room, though remained quite close, keeping her hands poised on her slightly pivoted hips. ”Been a while, Morales. How’s tricks?”

With Miles vibing with his tunes, and mapping out where his classes were in relation to each other, plus the odd level of hunger he had that morning, he was definitely not going to notice the sneaky peak that Marion took over his shoulder. It wasn't till her face moved back just out of his peripheral vision that he even noticed her there, the movement enough to alert him finally. He jumped a bit, nearly dropping his phone into the syrupy mess that made up his waffles "Shit, scared me there Marion" he chuckled awkwardly and gave her a small wave with one hand, pushing his headphones down to rest around his neck with the other "I'm doin' alright, just wakin' myself up. Heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day, figured I'd put it to the test" Horrible jokes aside, he turned more to appropriately face his peer(s) "so uh....what about you? What's good?" Probably apparent at that point that he missed her first remark about having homeroom together, probably the music in his ears at the time. Despite knowing each other, Marion was such an....intimidating figure, this queen bee among his peers who excelled in academics and the alien world of teenage social structure. She kinda reminded him of the main rival chick from that anime Kill la Kill, but more realistic and less fan service bait (not that she wasn't attractive!) She even had her own retinue with her, who.....he wasn't sure he had even really had a conversation with....ever? They probably had names, but for the life of him he couldn't remember what they were. Maybe it'd come up naturally. OH! He'd spaced there for a sec, hopefully he didn't miss anything.
It was about then that his snap back to reality shot him into hyper focusing on his conversation partner, now fully aware that she was closer than most girls ever got (at least as far as he had ever noticed) which was its own sort of anxiety inducing for the teen...was it hot in there? "Who you got for homeroom? Maybe we've got the same one, be nice to have a friendly face y'know?" Smooth recovery, boss. Unknowingly confirming that he hadn't heard her initial statement whatsoever. "do uhh....you wanna sit? Wouldn't mind company" gesturing to the empty seats across from, and around him "totally understand if you wanna pass tho, no worries"

Marion quirked her brow, so fast and sharp it was almost like cocking a gun. She pursed her lips ruefully, clearly enjoying this far more than Miles was. "Earth to Morales, I got Kwan too. Maybe give those Beats a rest. We'll be seeing plenty of each other... or whatever." She all but winked.
At the invitation, Marion quirked her head, continuing to play up her distant curiosity at the whole situation. Her two friends just watched on, almost as enigmatic as their fearless leader. "Oh? What kind of company are you looking for, Morales?"
"Looking for..." She closed the distance between them, her fingers trailing the lunch table as she began to walk to a nearby chair, stopping just short of sitting down. "...a tutor? Or do you mean like," She rolled her eyes, unable to hide a bright smile. "a gal pal?"

No one can be embarrassed by the opposite sex quite like a teenage boy, especially when he's trying to play off cool in front of someone who had leagues more star power than him "oh right, yeah I was just uhh" he fumbled a bit, fully removing the headphones in the fumbling way that only an embarrassed teenage boy could pull off "I was just seeing if you were paying attention, 'course you've got Kwan" smooth, Morales. Real smooth. The idea of having a regular class with the High School Socialite that was Marion Grey was a very intimidating prospect, especially when one took a moment to think of the fact that she held all the cards at all times. This was evident especially as she played her game with Miles, teasing the boy in an air of mystique that bewildered him as to what on earth she was doing...but it wasn't like he was opposed to it at all.
"I was just....I mean you are a girl, and I guess if we hung out you'd be my pal right? So....gal pal?" smooth as silk, Morales. He gave her his best approximation at a wry grin, trying to be some sort of confident and absolutely failing in most regards, but at least he wasn't a stammering mess who was just drooling over her very existence. It was hard to ignore the cronies though, his eyes nervously looked to them at moments of weakness, like he expected them to strike if he wasn't paying enough attention.

Marion steepled her fingers, resting her head over them, framing her expression in a rather cute - if intimidating - manner, patiently waiting to see how this boy tried to dig himself out of the hole that he had made in the first place. She did the thing with her eyebrows again, keeping her haughty smile throughout. "Uh-huh. Of course. It was just a test."
After his followup, she couldn't hold it in anymore. She sighed, starting to get up from the seat that she had just taken. "Well, this, aha, "gal pal", will see you in homeroom. Later, Morales."
With a quick flourish of her arm, Marion snapped her fingers in the air, a sound that may as well have been a thunderclap. The two girls who had been coldly watching this exchange practically pivoted in tune, walking in formation with Marion as she strutted off, leaving Miles to whatever devices he wanted to do before class started.
Devices other than breakfast, anyway.

The intimidation factor that radiated from a girl like Marion was just staggering, for his part he felt like he was in the gaze of some sort of huntress with her prey in her sights. He happened to be the prey.
"Pff, yeah I knew it was a test. Maybe...I was testing you?" once more trying to play it off like he was way cooler than he was in the moment. Spoiler alert, he definitely did not look cool right there, especially not in front of Marion & Co. (The icy glares in stereo definitely added to the intimidation factor) Miles tried not to look too disappointed at the departure of his morning conversation partner, he did feel a bit of relief that he didn't have to fail at keeping up with her any longer. There was always next time! "Yeah I'll catch you later, Mari" Did he just? gah, stupid Miles!
Doing his best to imagine sinking into nothingness out of embarrassment, Miles just found any other direction to point his face until it looked like the squad was gone. Man, they did just have a formation they walked in like some fighter squadron. Did they practice that?

Miles waited in mild silence for a while longer. Most of the students were starting to clear their tables, some in more of a hurry than others. Class time came for everyone, eventually. Granted, Miles kept his head down, so there wasn't much to make sense of until he chose to look up and realize what was going on. "Dude, aren't you gonna be late?" A familiar face glanced over at Miles from the hallway adjacent to the cafeteria. Miles was the only person there now. Even the lunch ladies had abandoned ship. The light danced across Ganke's colored glasses as he shook his head. They didn't have the same first period, but the least he could do is make sure his roommate didn't miss homeroom until at least the second day of the new school year.
