Name: Jose Orlandro
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Granada, Luna
Faction: AEUG
Rank: Chief Petty Officer
Appearance: Having his heritage lead back to South America, Jose’s skin has a natural dark tan that compliments well with his brown eyes and black hair that he keeps combed back against his head. Tall, standing in at around 5’8”, and handsome, he’s been known to be rather popular with the ladies upon first sight and has used it to his advantage as best as he can. The most identifiable mark he features is the single silver stud that pierces one of his earlobes.
When aboard a ship, Jose still wears the same uniform he had in the Federation regular forces, its sleeves rolled up past his elbows and unbuttoned to reveal white t-shirt underneath, and the standard pants and boots. His normal suit, meanwhile is the typical yellow of most AEUG pilots with the letter “G” for Granada stenciled onto the side of his helmet.
Personality: Energetic and idealistic, Jose is a true believer in the AEUG’s cause. Fostering a long hatred of those who would seek to oppress the innocent, his strong sense of duty is what lead him to abandon the Federation military in order to take up arms against the Titans. With that in mind he is an incredibly friendly sort, the kind of person eager to make friends with everyone he can and ingratiate himself with his comrades. Laid back and always eager for a laugh, he’s been known to be a bit of a practical joker with a tendency to try and act as a lady’s man that usually ends with him dumped on his rear end. Still, he’s the kind of person who takes the concept of “take a bullet for someone” seriously and wants to do what he can to protect his teammates.
History: Jose was born to a pair of poor construction workers on Luna, his parents working primarily in spacedocks that lined the massive city. Though he felt a strong love of space develop from seeing the giant vessels that his parents helped create, Jose wanted more than to just be another worker. While conditions on Luna were better than what could be found on some of the colonies or parts of Earth, it was far from ideal. Poverty and crime were facets of the rough neighborhood Jose grew up in and did much to shape his views of the future.
When the One Year War began and Zeon took control of the city without barely firing a shot, fear of the invaders quickly turned into joy. With the establishment of military construction facilities and other special projects, poor workers found plenty of work to go around and things actually began to improve. Couple that with the fact that Granada was spared any real battles during the war and it should be no real surprise that the population became very pro-Zeon.
When the city was surrendered back into the hands of the Federation a great deal of animosity lingered among the people of Granada, only softened by the fact that the arrival of Anaheim Electronics allowed for the Mobile Suit factories created by the Principality to keep running. Though he didn’t have much of an understanding of the larger political forces at play, Jose couldn’t come to see things from his parents’ point of of view. The Zeon were the ones that had filled their home city with soldiers. Didn’t that mean they were the bad guys and the Federation the good?
This idea was only further reinforced during the tragedy that would become known as the Delaz Fleet Incident. Finally old enough to understand the larger factors at play, Jose found his relationship with the pro-Zeon elements in his personal life fall away. How could they have condoned all the things that Zeon had done during the One Year War, the drop of the colony on Sydney and the gassing of so many colonies? How could they be alright with this latest colony drop on North America?
Desiring something greater for himself, to stop tragedies like the OYW from occurring again, and to escape a future in a factory, Jose resolved himself to leave Granada and join the Earth Federation military. In a rush to refill its ranks he found the overall process rather quick and before long he was a cadet in training and tapped to be put into service as a Mobile Suit pilot in the Federation Space Forces. Though he proved to be quite skilled, Jose was faced with the reality of being unable to join the ranks of the prestigious new unit dubbed the “Titans” in part because of his parents’ loyalties as well as his own Lunarian roots. Though disappointed, Jose took to the regular Federation forces with pride with the determination to make the most out of the experience.
Assigned to mostly escort and guard duty, most of Jose’s time was rather dull even with the rumblings about a renewed anti-Federation insurgent unit on the rise. To say that Jose had a rather low opinion about the so-called “AEUG” would be a bit of an understatement, feeling nothing but disgust at the idea that there were still people willing to send the Earth Sphere into chaos. When these rumors included the idea that the Titans were responsible for horrifying atrocities he simply brushed it off as nothing but enemy propaganda.
That all changed when he witnessed the Titans’ assault on the city of Amman on Luna. Stunned by the realization that his own side was committing atrocities just as bad as those of the Zabis, murdering countless civilians just to go after a few enemy soldiers, was gut-wrenching. There was very little, he realized, stopping the same fate from befalling his home city of Granada as well.
Unable to remain on the sidelines any longer, Jose defected from his unit in the Federation military and sought out the AEUG, finding contacts in Granada itself. Eager to recruit new pilots to bolster its dwindling ranks, they welcomed Jose with open arms and gave him his choice of units to serve with. As far as he was concerned there was only one choice: The Amman Hellfighters.
