Name: Aron Waltz
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Birthplace: The Principality of Zeon, Side 3
Faction: Axis
Rank: Ensign
Appearance: Tall and thin, Aron avoided the bulk that many other soldiers might feature. Instead, he has remained rather lean, his musculature being more tones than sizable. As a pilot who has lived his entire life in space, Aron realized early on that endurance is more important that pure physical strength and has lived his life accordingly. General he keeps a more relaxed posture when possible, avoiding the ‘stick-up-your-ass’ posture other soldiers might opt for. His skin is a pale white with ice blue eyes, his head covered in short white hair that has been with him from birth.
As a soldier of Zeon, Aron’s uniform features all the pomp and circumstance that has been common among the members of the military since the beginning of the Zabi family’s reign. Rather than the traditional dark green that identifies most Zeon soldiers, Aron’s uniform has been modified to match his late father’s personal colors. His jacket and trousers are both the same shade of dark grey, bordering on black, with silver threading making up the wing-like design on his chest and the embroidery on his sleeve cuffs and collar.
His shoulders feature silver epaulets that start at his neck and extend outward from the edge of his shoulders. These epaulets do not feature any tassels and are instead solid pieces of metal. To finish off the ensemble, wrapped around his waist is a black leather belt with a silver buckle and shined black boots to maintain a constant professional appearance.
When piloting his Mobile Suit, Aron yet again maintains this color for his normal suit. Though the typical Zeon model, the green on the suit have once again been replaced with a dark grey as is the red section on the front of the helmet. What stands out are the single vertical white stripes that go down each sleeve from shoulder to wrist and each leg from waist to ankle. In this way his normal suit appears very similar to the colors of his Mobile Suit, completing his persona as the ‘Black Demon’.
Personality: Most would believe that a child born into a wealthy and privileged family would grow up to be spoiled and quite full of themselves, as many do indeed do. This is not the case with Aron. Though his mother came from one of the heads of the Zeonic Corporation and thus had a great deal of money behind her, she displayed a humility that matched that of his father who came from a family of poor colony builders. Socially he does not see himself as superior to anyone else just because of his background and thus has not developed the arrogant persona that many ‘nobles’ among the Zeonic elite tend to flaunt as a badge of pride.
The same cannot be said, however, when it comes to the military. Raised on tales of his father’s heroism and deeds as the ace given the name “Black Demon” by friend and foe alike, Aron always aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps. The One Year War cost him his relationship with his father, something he resents to this day, but the story of his sacrifice during Operation Stardust all but assured that Aron would join the military as well. Among the various recruits at Axis,Aron displayed a great deal of talent, as if it were a hereditary trait, and earned him a good deal of respect from even the veterans that had survived the battles in the Earth Sphere.
This praise led to Aron’s pride in his own abilities to swell, leading him to adopting his father’s old moniker even if he hadn’t done much yet to earn it. As such, he considers himself to be far better than most of the other young Axis pilots and especially the rabble fighting for the Earth Federation. To say that he has a lack of respect for the Earthnoids would be a gross understatement.
Growing up in the Principality of Zeon during the rule of the Zabi family, Aron was affected a great deal by their propaganda and ideals. He believes fully that the Federation is a corrupt system ruled by fools whose souls are weighed down by gravity and that it is the duty of Zeon to lead the people of the Earth Sphere into a new golden age. That being said, the more extreme facets of Gihren Zabi’s rhetoric were tempered in his mind by the views of his parents, namely his mother. Having been Deikunists who kept their allegiance secret during the purge that followed the Zabi’s rise, they were able to mold their son to not believe that extermination of the “unworthy peoples” was necessary to obtain Zeon’s goals but that doesn’t mean Aron holds any compassion for them. He has no qualms in eliminating any who might try to suppress the freedoms that all Spacenoids deserve.
History: Aron was born in a month that would go down in infamy in the history of Side 3 for it was the month that great leader, Zeon Zum Deikun, died of mysterious causes and the assassination of one of Degwin Sodo Zabi’s sons led to massive purges of those who were politically loyal to Deikun’s legacy. Though his father had been a staunch Deikunist from the very beginning, the reality of protecting his family forced him to set aside his ideals and put on a facade to spare the ones he loved.
During his earliest years, Aron was spared any knowledge of this political turmoil. In fact he lived a very happy life, the fact that his father was a military officer and his mother was the daughter of one of the heads of Zeonic Corporation meaning he grew up as an elite within Zeonic society. Given an education in the best schools and provided everything that a growing child could want, Aron was slowly exposed more and more to the warlike rhetoric of Gihren Zabi and most likely would’ve become as fanatical as many of his classmates if not for the influence of his parents.
As the Principality drew ever and ever closer to war, Aron witnessed the unveiling of Mobile Suits for the first time, pride swelling in his young chest at the fact that his father was one of the first to pilot these magnificent new machines. His new dream to be a pilot himself was only further encouraged by the news of his father’s exploits during the Reah Revolution and during the early stages of the One Year War.
The conflict with the Earth Federation would see Aron and his father meet one last time after he was reassigned from homeland defense to the battlefields on Earth. Though at first the separation had seemed only temporary, slowly it began to sink in that the war was turning more and more against the Principality. Personally Aron couldn’t understand it. With heroes like the Red Comet and his father on their side how could the evil Federation be winning?
Then came the news that Zeon forces were retreating back into space. At first Aron had hoped that this would bring his father home again but with Side 3 now in danger, the decision was made that he and his mother would flee like so many other wealthy families to the safety of Axis. Though he railed against the idea, Aron didn’t have any control over the final decision and thus their exodus began.
It wouldn’t be long after leaving their homeland that news reached Aron and his mother that the One Year war had ended. The Principality that they had called home was gone, now under the jackboot of the hated Federation. Worst of all was the fact that there was no word of his father’s survival, leaving them to assume the worst.
Strangers in a strange new land on Axis, Aron and his mother were fortunate to rely on their ties to Zeonic to help establish them in as comfortable an environment as could be found on the asteroid. With his mother falling into depression over the loss of her husband, it fell upon Aron to provide for the both of them as best as he could. Given the few options that were open to him, Aron joined the military, a decision further fueled by a failed Federation attack in U.C. 0081.
The real turning point, however, would be the arrival of surviving veterans from Operation Stardust. Probing any and all of the returning heroes for any sight or news of his father, Aron finally learned of his fate. Alone in his black Gelgoog, his father had held off a Federation pursuit team single-handedly and died in order to allow his comrades the chance to escape. His father died a hero.
The news was emotionally crushing for both Aron and his mother, striking her with an illness that she would die from less than a year later. With his family gone, stolen from him by the actions of those in the Earth Sphere, even Aron’s respect for his father turned into a dark rage at the man who had abandoned his family and died in the process. Seeking to surpass what he saw as a betrayal and failings of his father, Aron redoubled his efforts in becoming the best soldier he could become.
Taking up his father’s mantle as the “Black Demon”, Aron swore himself to Haman Karn and the reestablishment of the Zabi family, his zeal and skill earning him a place in Axis’ 1st Advanced Recon Fleet. With his eyes set on returning to the land of his birth, Aron yearns for vengeance against those he blames for the deaths in his life.
