Its alright, Pearl. You spent such a long time with Mom; it is only natural that you feel so strongly about her. Who could have expected her to fall in love with Dad, and who can say why she decided to give up her own body to make me? It's not like I have any memories of hers or know anything about the life you lived before; I have my own.
I spent all my life living with Dad and you guys. What I know about being human, playing music, and how a car works, I have from dad and everything about being a gem... I learned from you, Garnet and Amethyst. I grew to love this world and its people, and I know that's what Mom must have wanted.
I'm thankful, and nothing can change that, even if I have always been a handful. I always enjoyed a good time, and knowing you, I imagine I could be a little... much at times. Still, I've always been very happy and will continue to be happy as long as I have you guys there. I grew up here in this temple; I could never have become the person I am today without you, Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst, and Dad.
We've sure had a lot of adventures, and I'm glad to have made so many friends like Connie. I'm also happy I have made a difference and learned more about my powers and connection with Mom. "All I wanted to do was see you turn into... a giant woman, a giant woman." We did find Mom's scabbard, and we did stop that weird eye; my powers went crazy, and I can never look at cats the same way again. The tape from Mom made me even more curious about who she was... everything else... and Lapis.
It will work out... somehow.
Don't forget my fusion with Connie. I know you were worried about that, but I'm fine, and so is Connie. And... of course, there is that weird Gem from Homeworld, but Garnet destroyed the warp... so she won't be coming back that way.
Homeworld is out there, and we need to be ready; I need to be prepared. It's not a matter of if but when.
I also sense I'm starting something new, like a feeling growing, a powerful light I cannot explain. I don't know if it has anything to do with Mom, but... I want to explore it and find out more.
I'm still unsure about that weird stranger I encountered at the beach earlier; they did not say much... they only asked me if I was willing to grow, protect, and keep. It was bizarre, but they let me hold that big key sword... thing. It felt odd, strangely good, like something inside connected me with Mom more than before.
It feels like an odd itch, and I'm eager to scratch it.

Physical Appearance:
Steven is a short boy with a thick, stocky build. He has fair skin, curly dark brown hair, and bushy brown eyebrows. His black irises can sometimes have stars as pupils when he gets excited.
Clothing/Armour:
Steven has a selection of different clothes, but he usually likes to wear comfortable pants, a T-shirt with a star, and simple sandals. But, the young Crystal Gem is not limited to this, and he can dress for the occasion, as and when the weather dictates it... to blend in, or to disguise himself, with variating results. The other gems have recently given him a brand new jacket, red/black and decorated with small stars.

Lion
Stevens unexpected companion, a lion his mother resurrected through her healing powers, giving Lion pink fur and magical abilities. He functions as Stevens's guardian and will often help (but usually not when asked or in the intended fashion). His sentience and sapience are somewhat questionable, even if Steven is certain he can understand him... and chooses to act that way. While Lion does not seem to acknowledge Steven most of the time, he does appear to understand Steven to a certain extent and always will be there to aid him, with a knack for turning up at the right time. Lion has a loud, powerful roar that sends pink rings to knock down/destroy structures. Lion's roar can also open up pink portals, connecting two non-adjacent areas, and he functions as Stevens mode of transport. Lion has a pocket dimension currently only accessible through his mane; only Steven can directly access this dimension.
Personality
"Let's go, duckies!"
General Personality:
A bright boy with a happy-go-lucky outlook on life. Steven is optimistic, friendly, outgoing, soft-hearted, playful, and carefree. He is musically inclined, a trait inherited from his father, with a propensity for breaking out into song, often expressing himself through improvised melodies. He loves anything sweet. He also habitually sees the best in others, even when they have difficulty seeing it in themselves. He is friendly toward almost everyone he meets (even to his detriment), rarely holds grudges for long, and is non-discriminatory, never treating anyone with prejudice, even enemies. For him, a person being light or dark is not enough a reason for him to mistrust them.
Steven is also an emotionally mature boy, enough to recognize his emotional state and not feel shame in displaying emotions in front of others, be they happiness, sorrow, anger, or fear. This can be attributed to his loving upbringing and the freedom he has been given to explore his inner world.
However, Steven is naive due to his isolated upbringing, and many things in the world strike him with a childlike wonder. Steven has never attended a school; he knows nothing about many institutions, such as hospitals. The concepts of royalty, government, and politics are alien to him, and he would rather keep things simple, if somewhat dirty if he could help it. Steven still feels guilt over his mother not being around and inferiority over being unable to live up to her reputation. He rarely brings up the subject with the other gems due to thinking they blame him for Rose being gone.
He is also very empathic, easily feeling for others in their pain, even more so if he feels unable to do anything about it or is forced to combat someone he knows is suffering.
That is not to say he is prone to inaction; Steven is one of the first to put himself in harm's way to protect others, much to the worry of his guardians. Steven still has a more grounded and practical outlook than his three caretakers, often correcting them on normal human interactions.

Steven dreams of growing up and becoming the kind of hero his friends and family expect him to become; the fact of now also being chosen as a wielder of his very own key blade is another thing on top of everything else. If he can grow more powerful, he can help defend his friends against the growing threat of Homeworld, but also the danger that keeps appearing in the form of the creatures known as Heartless, Nobodies and others.

Light Resistance
Due entirely to his unique physiology as a hybrid of gem and human, Steve is very resistant to weapons based around light, and those designed to disrupt the light bodies of gems, making it possible for him to be struck by weapons meant to disable gems without too much harm or escape prisons designed with their bodies in mind.
Musical Prodigy
Steve is a musical prodigy, and due to the encouragement of his father and family, he is exceptionally talented at making up songs on the fly, as and when they might be needed. He is a boy with perfect pitch and can play the ukulele, guitar, bass, drums and the piano. He learned to play music as a toddler, and for Steve, music is a way to express himself, a way to reach out to the hearts of others.
Martial Arts
Steven does not strictly need a weapon to defend himself; he likes to use his shield but will not back away from shoving if push comes to shove.
Superhuman Abilities
As a half-gem, Steve possesses heightened physical abilities far greater than regular humans. His body can take great punishment and handle the full force of faster-than-light space travel. His strength is well beyond that of any child and most adults, making it possible for Steve to lift and throw things and people a considerable distance and fight multiple opponents without growing tired. This gives him an edge in strength, durability and speed, making him a difficult (if defensive) opponent.
Magic:
Steve is not a wizard and cannot cast spells in the traditional sense. But many of his powers are still magical, albeit from a genetic sense from his mother's gem. Many physical injuries and fractures seem to heal near-instantly if the damage is not too extensive. He is strong enough to easily rip apart an arcade machine and wrestle monsters many times his size. He can lift and toss a grown man considerably, fighting several opponents without growing visibly tired.
Bubble Shield
Steven can call upon an extremely durable bubble to protect himself and others from harm. Apart from its durability, the bubble can generate an internal atmosphere, making it usable to keep it safe in hazardous environments, such as vacuum, underwater, or similar. While the bubble is incredibly durable, it is better at withstanding short, narrow bursts of pressure, such as being hit with a harpoon, than a large amount of pressure constantly applied over a large area of the bubble.
Empathic Telepathy - Mind Link
Steven has the power to connect with others emotionally, making it possible for him to gain visions and sense emotional states, and he has a knack for reaching and connecting with others. Steven can link his mind with another being. This power allows Steven to feel the target's emotions and see the world through their eyes. For example, if the target cries, Steven will also cry, regardless of his current emotional state. Steven does not have to willingly link minds with a person for this power to work, and as he has little control, this happens based on outside factors.
Gem Fusion
Like the other Gems, Steven possesses the ability to fuse and create entirely new and the same entities. They don't become two minds in one body, yet not one mind out of two. Fusion is an intimate union of hearts and bodies, an experience unlike anything else. It will likely grant the people a deeper understanding of one another, heightening and combining their abilities. His human side makes Steve particularly unique, allowing him to fuse with beings other than gems.
Healing
Steven has the power to heal animals and plants and repair Gems and inanimate objects. He can heal cracked gemstones and common human injuries and conditions, such as broken legs and lacerations. This healing is most often applied using his saliva, unlike his mother, who more often uses her tears to heal.
Maternal Shield
"I summoned my weapon by eating ice cream!"
Steven's main battle style is to summon Rose's shields, manifesting them from his arms and using them during combat to protect and fight back. Because Steven's powers are maternal, so he must feel a strong need to protect and help others call his shield out. Steven can summon his shield with little effort and increase its size. Steven, when in great excitement, can throw his shields as projectiles with great speed and power, using them as potent range weapons. Steven can boomerang his shields off of several targets, causing them to return to his hand. Sometimes, something impacts one of Steven's shields, causing them to emit an audible vibration that disables magical constructs.
Phytoanimation
Like his mother, Steven has limited control and influence over plant life. Using his healing saliva, Steven can grow sentient and sapient flora by licking plant seeds, and all seeds he licks will be fully grown in less than a day. He has not mastered this ability, and any plants created this way will protect him from harm, ignoring his orders in their attempt to do so.
Shapeshifting
Steven possesses, at least to a certain degree, similar shapeshifting abilities to those of the other Gems. However, he is somewhat limited in how he can change the shape of his body and is reluctant to experiment due to what happened last time. Steven can manipulate his age through his state of mind. Steven's age depends solely on how old he thinks he is; if his emotional state causes him to think of himself as another age, he will become it.
Speed of Descent Regulation
Steven, like Rose, can levitate his body and even manipulate its gravity based on his emotions. When he thinks happy thoughts, he floats slowly to the ground, while when he is sad or angry, he descends much quicker. While floating slowly, anything he touches will also float just as slowly, no matter how large. This also allows him to jump higher than normal.
Weaknesses
Due to being both a gem and human, he possesses weaknesses linked to both. Like the other gems, he depends on his gemstone and cannot survive for long without it. Steven also needs to sustain and care for his body, which requires food and sleep. If his gem is ever separated from him, he separates into two entities: his human half and gem half. His human half is extremely weak, while his Gem half lacks self-restraint, becoming dangerously set to be reunited with himself.
Empathy and Self-Worth
Steven's powers are deeply linked to his emotional state and how he perceives himself. It is tightly bound to his happiness; a happy Steven is a powerful Steven. If Steven is happy, he has access to most of his powers, but if he is greatly disturbed, they either malfunction or fail. His powers can go completely out of control if he should fall into despair or other emotions of extreme pain.
A Weakness in Personality
Steven's greatest strength can also be his greatest weakness. Despite being brave, caring, intelligent and quick-thinking, he often let his youth, naivety, optimism and excitability get the better of him. He will try to befriend enemies, even at the detriment of others, and often with it backfiring in his face.

Steven shares an incredibly strong father-son bond with Greg Universe. Steven's dad is a very important connection to his human side, and everything he knows about being human comes from Greg. He often looks to the old man's wisdom for trouble of a nature the gems cannot help with. The two also share a deep love for music, and it is mainly from Greg that Steven has inherited the habit of breaking into songs to express himself.
Rose Quartz
"But Steven, don't you realize? We've been together this whole time."
There is no question about the fact that Steven loves his mother deeply, or rather, he loves the memory of her and has a deep affection for the sacrifice she made to give him life. Still, Rose's absence left a particular void in Steven's life, having to grow up without his mother, only hearing how amazing she was as 2nd hand accounts. He would himself call the relationship complicated, but he is still a loyal son to his mother's memory, defending her against insults and slights. Unbeknownst to Steven, he and Rose have had similar feelings. Rose is in love with the idea of Steven's future, and Steven is in love with the memory of his Mother's past.
Finding a tape with Rose's message to him has caused Steven to become all the more curious about her. His desire for his mother also shows itself in his habit of clutching at the gemstone in his stomach whenever he has something on his mind.
She is, and always will be, the source of his greatest strength.
And she could not be more proud of him.
Pearl
"She saw the beauty in everything, no matter how gross"
Pearl is very much like Steven's overprotective mother, and this usually show itself in the way she acts around him, or about him. As much as Steven dislikes it, he always remains a constant reminder of Rose in Pearl's eyes. He cares deeply for her and values her knowledge more than he might at times express, even when he finds her overprotectiveness a little grating. Steven knows she harbours mixed feelings for him and tries his best to be there for her as himself. He has unknowingly comforted her by stating that flaws are important to everyone.
Garnet
"Steven, I know you don't think we trust you. I know more often than not, we treat you like a human child. But the truth is, we rely on you. Your voice inspires us, binds us, reminds us why we promised to protect the planet. You must now be that voice for them."
Garnet has always been a rock in Steven's world; her calm and gentle personality makes her a lenient and kind mother. She often encourages Steven to test his wings, wishes for him to experience the adventures life offers, and takes great delight in his explorations of himself and those around him. Steven usually asks Garnet for permission before anyone else and often seeks her approval more than others. Due to her personality, Garnet is usually open to letting Steven attempt things that Pearl may not while still being more mature than Amethyst. Still, there are times when Steve feels he cannot turn to her for fear of her acting "high and mighty" and lecturing him.
Amethyst
"Great job, Steven! You just saved MOST of Beach City!"
Where Pearl and Garnet act in the way befitting mothers, Amethyst, more often than not, becomes Steven's older sister, often joking around with him and joining him in his misadventures, and oftentimes is the cause of them in the first place. Pearl often scolds Amethyst for being too reckless with Steven, and she is well aware of her reckless nature.
Connie Maheswaran
"I want to, Steven. I want to be a part of your universe."
Steven saw Connie years before he knew her. She dropped her glow bracelet and kept it in his freezer ever since to make it last longer. Their first encounter was not ideal; Steven saved her from a falling rock using his gemstone to summon his bubble. That was a whole event, but it worked out, and the two have only grown closer, making Connie the first human, outside of Greg, with more knowledge about the Crystal Gems, with Pearl even giving her lessons in swordplay. Connie is Stevens's first close friend of his age, someone he has been able to hang out with and go on adventures in the company of.
Their relationship has grown so close that she was the first person Steven fused with, albeit accidentally at the time. Creating his very first fusion, Stevonnie. Much to the delight of mostly Garnet and the other Gems, with some apprehension from Pearl on how proper the whole thing was. Still, he loves her, and Steven has partly decided that Connie will be the person he marries one day.
Lapis Lazuli
"Thank you... You didn't—You actually talked to me. You helped me! It's Steven, right?"
When Steve first meets Lapis, she is trapped inside a mirror, which was given to him by Pearl. At the time, he did not know she was a gem and was told she was mainly a tool. Steven befriended her, which ended with him releasing her from the mirror. His conflict with Lapis stemmed from her desire to go home, and even if he was angry with her, he agreed to help and heal her gem using his powers. He wishes for her happiness.
The Stranger
"Are you willing to Grow, Protect, and Keep?"
Steven only met the person once, an encounter at the beach. The cloaked stranger asked him a few questions before they let Steven hold their mysterious key, which vanished soon after. Steven is more curious about the stranger than worried about their intentions. Still, Steven does not know that the entity performed the Bequeathing, granting Steven access to a Keyblade.
Rivals/Enemies:
Homeworld
Steven has a complicated relationship with Homeworld; unlike Pearl and Garnet, he has never interacted with these gems. All accounts he has come from his two guardians. Where someone like Pearl has a deep dislike for Homeworld, Steven is apprehensive about them. They are more enemies of merit than from a personal vendetta, at least as far as Young Universe is concerned.
The Heartless & Nobodies
Steven feels deep sympathy for these beings but also understands their threat to the rest of the world(s). He also understands that he is one of few beings among the worlds with the power to destroy them, as much as the idea both frightens and worries him.
Villainous Inc.
As a protector of Haven, Steven often conflicts with the different members of Villainous Inc. Unlike Homeworld, these villains are a present threat in his world, so he has more personal conflicts with them. He is not so stupid as to underestimate these villains but also empathic enough to know many of them are the way they are for a reason.

The group of gems created by his mother, Rose Quartz, is a collection of, currently, four members. Steven himself and his three guardians, Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst. They are so much more than just a faction in the eyes of Steven; they are family, and families help each other.
The Keyblade Union
Steven has not developed a full relationship with the Union. He is, as always, eager and positive about making new friends, and the Union does have many goals that align with Steven's view of the world and the things he seeks to accomplish. Thankfully, Pearl's connection as the defacto representative of the Crystal Gems to Scala Ad Caelum has made this easier. He is well aware of the existence of other worlds.
Heroes of Haven
Steven is a stalwart member of the Heroes of Haven, and the other Crystal Gems are among the most formidable defenders of Humanity against the forces of evil.
Citizens of Haven
As one of the heroes protecting Haven, mostly his home at Beach City, Steve is well-liked among the citizens. Not only for that but also for his upbeat, charming and positive personality. He genuinely cares about the people around him, which helps foster a positive relationship with others.

"What's... going on?"
Steven found himself floating in the middle of a void, and for a few seconds, he remained suspended in the air. As if pulled on by some unknown force, he began to fall. Below stretched a dark ocean, and for a split second, he prepared himself to be dunked into the cold water. However, instead of drowning, he found that they could breathe and continued to fall. Pink rose petals erupted all around him, momentarily clouding his vision, and once they were gone, he was standing upon what looked like a mural of an illuminated stained-glass pillar featuring
"Pearl?" Said Steven, looking at the familiar figure of his guardian, recreated in panes of coloured glass. "Why... are you here?"
"Your mother was incredible and with such power" Pearl's voice rang out, but he could not hear from which direction, or maybe the voice was inside his mind. "But, you're not her; you're your own Gem. The question is, what kind of power do you seek?" As these words rang, Steven noticed several objects having appeared before him: one was his mother's sword, the other was the shield, and the third was the Laser Light Cannon.
"What's going on, Pearl?" Steven asked, but there came no answer. Instead, he stood and stared at the three objects, gaze drifting to each. Was this some test? Was he meant to make some choice? No, this did not feel like it was Pearl's doing, even if it was a complicated thing she might find educational. "What kind of... Power..."After taking a deep breath, Steve walked over to the shield, and without hesitation, he reached out and touched it. The other two objects vanished in the flash of light, leaving him with the familiar shield floating by his arm.
"The power to protect is your's, Steven."
"Thanks, Pearl's voice."
A bridge appeared in front of Steven, disappearing into the darkness towards the distant shape of another pillar. Steve curiously began to ascend the staircase, careful not to move too close to the edge... he did not feel like he wanted to fall into whatever void this was.
The second pillar, equally illuminated from within, showed another familiar figure:
"Amethyst..." Said Steven.
"You're one of us, Steven. We're not the Crystal Gems without you, little man." Amethyst's voice said as Pearl had done. "But, what do you want to use that power for, Steve-O? That is the deep question, man."
No sooner had her words been spoken before Steve stood in front of a tall mirror, looking at the reflection. Moments later, images flashed through the reflection: Steven playing the ukulele with his father, Steven going on an adventure with the Crystal Gems, Steven being with Connie, and Steven riding Lion.
"I want-" Steven hesitated; what did he want? His hand absentmindedly went to his gem, and he clutched at it... watching the images pass in the mirror. "I want to protect my dad, Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet, Connie, and everyone else, even those I don't know yet." There was a flash, and the mirror vanished; moments later, the platform dissolved into a cloud of purple flowers, causing Steven to fall. The fall took him down, swooshing past other pillars; below him appeared one pillar illuminated by a red and blue light:
"G-Garnet..." said Steven before landing on the new platform.
"Don't be afraid, Steven" came Garnet's voice. "I know you're strong enough."
"Garnet? What do you-" Steven started speaking but noticed movement as a small shadowy creature leapt from the darkness onto the platform, quickly joined by others. "H-Heartless!" He held the shield, blocking the incoming attacks. "But- you won't stop me!" he retaliated, slamming the pink shield into the attackers, causing them to disappear in smoke and darkness. Steven panted as the last Shadow disappeared, and instantly, another bridge formed, taking him off the platform and higher up into the darkness.
"Let's go, Steven", Steven said to himself before starting to ascend the new staircase.

A bright boy with a happy-go-lucky outlook on life. Steven is optimistic, friendly, outgoing, soft-hearted, playful, and carefree. He is musically inclined, a trait inherited from his father, with a propensity for breaking out into song, often expressing himself through improvised melodies. He loves anything sweet. He also habitually sees the best in others, even when they have difficulty seeing it in themselves. He is friendly toward almost everyone he meets (even to his detriment), rarely holds grudges for long, and is non-discriminatory, never treating anyone with prejudice, even enemies. For him, a person being light or dark is not enough a reason for him to mistrust them.
Steven is also an emotionally mature boy, enough to recognize his emotional state and not feel shame in displaying emotions in front of others, be they happiness, sorrow, anger, or fear. This can be attributed to his loving upbringing and the freedom he has been given to explore his inner world.
However, Steven is naive due to his isolated upbringing, and many things in the world strike him with a childlike wonder. Steven has never attended a school; he knows nothing about many institutions, such as hospitals. The concepts of royalty, government, and politics are alien to him, and he would rather keep things simple, if somewhat dirty if he could help it. Steven still feels guilt over his mother not being around and inferiority over being unable to live up to her reputation. He rarely brings up the subject with the other gems due to thinking they blame him for Rose being gone.
He is also very empathic, easily feeling for others in their pain, even more so if he feels unable to do anything about it or is forced to combat someone he knows is suffering.
That is not to say he is prone to inaction; Steven is one of the first to put himself in harm's way to protect others, much to the worry of his guardians. Steven still has a more grounded and practical outlook than his three caretakers, often correcting them on normal human interactions.

Steven dreams of growing up and becoming the kind of hero his friends and family expect him to become; the fact of now also being chosen as a wielder of his very own key blade is another thing on top of everything else. If he can grow more powerful, he can help defend his friends against the growing threat of Homeworld, but also the danger that keeps appearing in the form of the creatures known as Heartless, Nobodies and others.

Light Resistance
Due entirely to his unique physiology as a hybrid of gem and human, Steve is very resistant to weapons based around light, and those designed to disrupt the light bodies of gems, making it possible for him to be struck by weapons meant to disable gems without too much harm or escape prisons designed with their bodies in mind.
Musical Prodigy
Steve is a musical prodigy, and due to the encouragement of his father and family, he is exceptionally talented at making up songs on the fly, as and when they might be needed. He is a boy with perfect pitch and can play the ukulele, guitar, bass, drums and the piano. He learned to play music as a toddler, and for Steve, music is a way to express himself, a way to reach out to the hearts of others.
Martial Arts
Steven does not strictly need a weapon to defend himself; he likes to use his shield but will not back away from shoving if push comes to shove.
Superhuman Abilities
As a half-gem, Steve possesses heightened physical abilities far greater than regular humans. His body can take great punishment and handle the full force of faster-than-light space travel. His strength is well beyond that of any child and most adults, making it possible for Steve to lift and throw things and people a considerable distance and fight multiple opponents without growing tired. This gives him an edge in strength, durability and speed, making him a difficult (if defensive) opponent.
Magic:
Steve is not a wizard and cannot cast spells in the traditional sense. But many of his powers are still magical, albeit from a genetic sense from his mother's gem. Many physical injuries and fractures seem to heal near-instantly if the damage is not too extensive. He is strong enough to easily rip apart an arcade machine and wrestle monsters many times his size. He can lift and toss a grown man considerably, fighting several opponents without growing visibly tired.
Bubble Shield
Steven can call upon an extremely durable bubble to protect himself and others from harm. Apart from its durability, the bubble can generate an internal atmosphere, making it usable to keep it safe in hazardous environments, such as vacuum, underwater, or similar. While the bubble is incredibly durable, it is better at withstanding short, narrow bursts of pressure, such as being hit with a harpoon, than a large amount of pressure constantly applied over a large area of the bubble.
Empathic Telepathy - Mind Link
Steven has the power to connect with others emotionally, making it possible for him to gain visions and sense emotional states, and he has a knack for reaching and connecting with others. Steven can link his mind with another being. This power allows Steven to feel the target's emotions and see the world through their eyes. For example, if the target cries, Steven will also cry, regardless of his current emotional state. Steven does not have to willingly link minds with a person for this power to work, and as he has little control, this happens based on outside factors.
Gem Fusion
Like the other Gems, Steven possesses the ability to fuse and create entirely new and the same entities. They don't become two minds in one body, yet not one mind out of two. Fusion is an intimate union of hearts and bodies, an experience unlike anything else. It will likely grant the people a deeper understanding of one another, heightening and combining their abilities. His human side makes Steve particularly unique, allowing him to fuse with beings other than gems.
Healing
Steven has the power to heal animals and plants and repair Gems and inanimate objects. He can heal cracked gemstones and common human injuries and conditions, such as broken legs and lacerations. This healing is most often applied using his saliva, unlike his mother, who more often uses her tears to heal.
Resurrection

Maternal Shield

Steven's main battle style is to summon Rose's shields, manifesting them from his arms and using them during combat to protect and fight back. Because Steven's powers are maternal, so he must feel a strong need to protect and help others call his shield out. Steven can summon his shield with little effort and increase its size. Steven, when in great excitement, can throw his shields as projectiles with great speed and power, using them as potent range weapons. Steven can boomerang his shields off of several targets, causing them to return to his hand. Sometimes, something impacts one of Steven's shields, causing them to emit an audible vibration that disables magical constructs.
Phytoanimation
Like his mother, Steven has limited control and influence over plant life. Using his healing saliva, Steven can grow sentient and sapient flora by licking plant seeds, and all seeds he licks will be fully grown in less than a day. He has not mastered this ability, and any plants created this way will protect him from harm, ignoring his orders in their attempt to do so.
Shapeshifting
Steven possesses, at least to a certain degree, similar shapeshifting abilities to those of the other Gems. However, he is somewhat limited in how he can change the shape of his body and is reluctant to experiment due to what happened last time. Steven can manipulate his age through his state of mind. Steven's age depends solely on how old he thinks he is; if his emotional state causes him to think of himself as another age, he will become it.
Speed of Descent Regulation
Steven, like Rose, can levitate his body and even manipulate its gravity based on his emotions. When he thinks happy thoughts, he floats slowly to the ground, while when he is sad or angry, he descends much quicker. While floating slowly, anything he touches will also float just as slowly, no matter how large. This also allows him to jump higher than normal.
Weaknesses
Due to being both a gem and human, he possesses weaknesses linked to both. Like the other gems, he depends on his gemstone and cannot survive for long without it. Steven also needs to sustain and care for his body, which requires food and sleep. If his gem is ever separated from him, he separates into two entities: his human half and gem half. His human half is extremely weak, while his Gem half lacks self-restraint, becoming dangerously set to be reunited with himself.
Empathy and Self-Worth
Steven's powers are deeply linked to his emotional state and how he perceives himself. It is tightly bound to his happiness; a happy Steven is a powerful Steven. If Steven is happy, he has access to most of his powers, but if he is greatly disturbed, they either malfunction or fail. His powers can go completely out of control if he should fall into despair or other emotions of extreme pain.
A Weakness in Personality
Steven's greatest strength can also be his greatest weakness. Despite being brave, caring, intelligent and quick-thinking, he often let his youth, naivety, optimism and excitability get the better of him. He will try to befriend enemies, even at the detriment of others, and often with it backfiring in his face.

Steven shares an incredibly strong father-son bond with Greg Universe. Steven's dad is a very important connection to his human side, and everything he knows about being human comes from Greg. He often looks to the old man's wisdom for trouble of a nature the gems cannot help with. The two also share a deep love for music, and it is mainly from Greg that Steven has inherited the habit of breaking into songs to express himself.
Rose Quartz
"But Steven, don't you realize? We've been together this whole time."
There is no question about the fact that Steven loves his mother deeply, or rather, he loves the memory of her and has a deep affection for the sacrifice she made to give him life. Still, Rose's absence left a particular void in Steven's life, having to grow up without his mother, only hearing how amazing she was as 2nd hand accounts. He would himself call the relationship complicated, but he is still a loyal son to his mother's memory, defending her against insults and slights. Unbeknownst to Steven, he and Rose have had similar feelings. Rose is in love with the idea of Steven's future, and Steven is in love with the memory of his Mother's past.
Finding a tape with Rose's message to him has caused Steven to become all the more curious about her. His desire for his mother also shows itself in his habit of clutching at the gemstone in his stomach whenever he has something on his mind.
She is, and always will be, the source of his greatest strength.
And she could not be more proud of him.
Pearl
"She saw the beauty in everything, no matter how gross"
Pearl is very much like Steven's overprotective mother, and this usually show itself in the way she acts around him, or about him. As much as Steven dislikes it, he always remains a constant reminder of Rose in Pearl's eyes. He cares deeply for her and values her knowledge more than he might at times express, even when he finds her overprotectiveness a little grating. Steven knows she harbours mixed feelings for him and tries his best to be there for her as himself. He has unknowingly comforted her by stating that flaws are important to everyone.
Garnet
"Steven, I know you don't think we trust you. I know more often than not, we treat you like a human child. But the truth is, we rely on you. Your voice inspires us, binds us, reminds us why we promised to protect the planet. You must now be that voice for them."
Garnet has always been a rock in Steven's world; her calm and gentle personality makes her a lenient and kind mother. She often encourages Steven to test his wings, wishes for him to experience the adventures life offers, and takes great delight in his explorations of himself and those around him. Steven usually asks Garnet for permission before anyone else and often seeks her approval more than others. Due to her personality, Garnet is usually open to letting Steven attempt things that Pearl may not while still being more mature than Amethyst. Still, there are times when Steve feels he cannot turn to her for fear of her acting "high and mighty" and lecturing him.
Amethyst
"Great job, Steven! You just saved MOST of Beach City!"
Where Pearl and Garnet act in the way befitting mothers, Amethyst, more often than not, becomes Steven's older sister, often joking around with him and joining him in his misadventures, and oftentimes is the cause of them in the first place. Pearl often scolds Amethyst for being too reckless with Steven, and she is well aware of her reckless nature.
Connie Maheswaran
"I want to, Steven. I want to be a part of your universe."
Steven saw Connie years before he knew her. She dropped her glow bracelet and kept it in his freezer ever since to make it last longer. Their first encounter was not ideal; Steven saved her from a falling rock using his gemstone to summon his bubble. That was a whole event, but it worked out, and the two have only grown closer, making Connie the first human, outside of Greg, with more knowledge about the Crystal Gems, with Pearl even giving her lessons in swordplay. Connie is Stevens's first close friend of his age, someone he has been able to hang out with and go on adventures in the company of.
Their relationship has grown so close that she was the first person Steven fused with, albeit accidentally at the time. Creating his very first fusion, Stevonnie. Much to the delight of mostly Garnet and the other Gems, with some apprehension from Pearl on how proper the whole thing was. Still, he loves her, and Steven has partly decided that Connie will be the person he marries one day.
Lapis Lazuli
"Thank you... You didn't—You actually talked to me. You helped me! It's Steven, right?"
When Steve first meets Lapis, she is trapped inside a mirror, which was given to him by Pearl. At the time, he did not know she was a gem and was told she was mainly a tool. Steven befriended her, which ended with him releasing her from the mirror. His conflict with Lapis stemmed from her desire to go home, and even if he was angry with her, he agreed to help and heal her gem using his powers. He wishes for her happiness.
The Stranger
"Are you willing to Grow, Protect, and Keep?"
Steven only met the person once, an encounter at the beach. The cloaked stranger asked him a few questions before they let Steven hold their mysterious key, which vanished soon after. Steven is more curious about the stranger than worried about their intentions. Still, Steven does not know that the entity performed the Bequeathing, granting Steven access to a Keyblade.
Rivals/Enemies:
Homeworld
Steven has a complicated relationship with Homeworld; unlike Pearl and Garnet, he has never interacted with these gems. All accounts he has come from his two guardians. Where someone like Pearl has a deep dislike for Homeworld, Steven is apprehensive about them. They are more enemies of merit than from a personal vendetta, at least as far as Young Universe is concerned.
The Heartless & Nobodies
Steven feels deep sympathy for these beings but also understands their threat to the rest of the world(s). He also understands that he is one of few beings among the worlds with the power to destroy them, as much as the idea both frightens and worries him.
Villainous Inc.
As a protector of Haven, Steven often conflicts with the different members of Villainous Inc. Unlike Homeworld, these villains are a present threat in his world, so he has more personal conflicts with them. He is not so stupid as to underestimate these villains but also empathic enough to know many of them are the way they are for a reason.

The group of gems created by his mother, Rose Quartz, is a collection of, currently, four members. Steven himself and his three guardians, Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst. They are so much more than just a faction in the eyes of Steven; they are family, and families help each other.
The Keyblade Union
Steven has not developed a full relationship with the Union. He is, as always, eager and positive about making new friends, and the Union does have many goals that align with Steven's view of the world and the things he seeks to accomplish. Thankfully, Pearl's connection as the defacto representative of the Crystal Gems to Scala Ad Caelum has made this easier. He is well aware of the existence of other worlds.
Heroes of Haven
Steven is a stalwart member of the Heroes of Haven, and the other Crystal Gems are among the most formidable defenders of Humanity against the forces of evil.
Citizens of Haven
As one of the heroes protecting Haven, mostly his home at Beach City, Steve is well-liked among the citizens. Not only for that but also for his upbeat, charming and positive personality. He genuinely cares about the people around him, which helps foster a positive relationship with others.

Steven found himself floating in the middle of a void, and for a few seconds, he remained suspended in the air. As if pulled on by some unknown force, he began to fall. Below stretched a dark ocean, and for a split second, he prepared himself to be dunked into the cold water. However, instead of drowning, he found that they could breathe and continued to fall. Pink rose petals erupted all around him, momentarily clouding his vision, and once they were gone, he was standing upon what looked like a mural of an illuminated stained-glass pillar featuring
"Pearl?" Said Steven, looking at the familiar figure of his guardian, recreated in panes of coloured glass. "Why... are you here?"
"Your mother was incredible and with such power" Pearl's voice rang out, but he could not hear from which direction, or maybe the voice was inside his mind. "But, you're not her; you're your own Gem. The question is, what kind of power do you seek?" As these words rang, Steven noticed several objects having appeared before him: one was his mother's sword, the other was the shield, and the third was the Laser Light Cannon.
"What's going on, Pearl?" Steven asked, but there came no answer. Instead, he stood and stared at the three objects, gaze drifting to each. Was this some test? Was he meant to make some choice? No, this did not feel like it was Pearl's doing, even if it was a complicated thing she might find educational. "What kind of... Power..."After taking a deep breath, Steve walked over to the shield, and without hesitation, he reached out and touched it. The other two objects vanished in the flash of light, leaving him with the familiar shield floating by his arm.
"The power to protect is your's, Steven."
"Thanks, Pearl's voice."
A bridge appeared in front of Steven, disappearing into the darkness towards the distant shape of another pillar. Steve curiously began to ascend the staircase, careful not to move too close to the edge... he did not feel like he wanted to fall into whatever void this was.
The second pillar, equally illuminated from within, showed another familiar figure:
"Amethyst..." Said Steven.
"You're one of us, Steven. We're not the Crystal Gems without you, little man." Amethyst's voice said as Pearl had done. "But, what do you want to use that power for, Steve-O? That is the deep question, man."
No sooner had her words been spoken before Steve stood in front of a tall mirror, looking at the reflection. Moments later, images flashed through the reflection: Steven playing the ukulele with his father, Steven going on an adventure with the Crystal Gems, Steven being with Connie, and Steven riding Lion.
"I want-" Steven hesitated; what did he want? His hand absentmindedly went to his gem, and he clutched at it... watching the images pass in the mirror. "I want to protect my dad, Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet, Connie, and everyone else, even those I don't know yet." There was a flash, and the mirror vanished; moments later, the platform dissolved into a cloud of purple flowers, causing Steven to fall. The fall took him down, swooshing past other pillars; below him appeared one pillar illuminated by a red and blue light:
"G-Garnet..." said Steven before landing on the new platform.
"Don't be afraid, Steven" came Garnet's voice. "I know you're strong enough."
"Garnet? What do you-" Steven started speaking but noticed movement as a small shadowy creature leapt from the darkness onto the platform, quickly joined by others. "H-Heartless!" He held the shield, blocking the incoming attacks. "But- you won't stop me!" he retaliated, slamming the pink shield into the attackers, causing them to disappear in smoke and darkness. Steven panted as the last Shadow disappeared, and instantly, another bridge formed, taking him off the platform and higher up into the darkness.
"Let's go, Steven", Steven said to himself before starting to ascend the new staircase.
