Max was not a school fan; honestly, he would have rather been doing anything else, like train. But he had to go; it was part of the deal he made with his father: keep at it with studies, and in return, Goofy would continue to train him to become a knight. It was a win-win: Max felt his father still got a larger win than he did. Still, there were a few good things with school; he got to hang out with Roxanne... and having her as a girlfriend made going to school less painful.
"Hello, Max," Roxanne said as Max reached his locker, coming in for a kiss, which he returned with the same enthusiasm. "How's your day?" She continued after the kiss, moving a lock of her red hair away from her face in that way Max loved so much.
"Much better now," Max said with a smirk, "was just thinking about you."
"Are you ready for this afternoon?"
"Of course," Max paused, trying to remember what he promised to help with this time. "I'm ready for the thing- at the place."
Roxanne raised an eyebrow.
"The school play preparations? We have our first meeting..." She poked his nose. "And you promised to come to help. Remember?"
"Oh, yeah, of course I remember." Max cleared his throat; it had slipped his mind. "We decided what play to make?"
"Not yet; that's why we have this meeting. I hope enough people turn up; the interest was a little low, and few signed up for it." Roxanne sighed, tapping herself on the cheek with a slender finger. "The others will be disappointed if we can't get enough people."
"Don't worry, I'm sure with you and Noelle in charge, people will turn up." Max pulled her in, brushing their noses together. "Because you're brilliant..." "You're so sweet, Maxie." "Not as sweet as you, Roxie." "Oh, stop it." "Never"

Down the hall came a shriek followed by a few galloping students that were barrelling down the way. One of them passed by Max, a duck boy, who gave out the call. "Code Purple, man! Run for it!"
Everyone else in the hallways started clearing out, scrambling more like as a lone figure trudged down the hallways. Code Purple was easily the most identifiable Emergency alert in the school. Fire drills caused less attention and even the actual fire alarm wasn't as important to the rest of the student body as a Code Purple. Because Code Purple was warning all the other students in the hallway to clear out. Even the teachers knew better than to sit idly by as Code Purple was active. Some had tried to issue Code Purple as a joke in the past; those pranksters got punished. Code Purple was something you just didn't joke about. Some were brave enough to take their chances during a Code Purple. They just risk their well-being by doing as such and some swear years were taken off their life. All because one individual was in a foul mood. Did someone say something bad to her? Did she fall victim to a prank? Who'd be dumb enough to pull a prank on the most fearsome student in school? They called her the violet tormentor but she was more commonly known as... Susie. The look on her face said it all; she was irate. She didn't want to deal with any stupidity and was liable to just snap at the first thing she would come into contact. Hands thrust in her pockets, chalk in her mouth, Susie was not down to clown right now. And the first thing she sees? A couple in the middle of the hallway acting all lovey dovey. Oh. Oh that seemed to set a WHOLE new bundle of kindling to her already burning fire of irritability. "Hey." came her gruff and sharp voice. "You got time to do it in the halls, you got time to do it ELSEWHERE! BEAT IT!" she snapped, nearly baring her sharp teeth.

They say love is blind, but in the case of Max and Roxanne, love was also deaf, for the stampeding students did not even cause the couple to look up. Max had pulled Roxanne in, as the two looked lovelingly into each other's eyes. Neither did they notice the call for "Code Purple" as the duck boy ran past them. It was all just... perfect; nothing could ruin this moment, nothing at all.
"No, you let go first." "No, you let go first." "No, you..." "No, you..." "We should get ready for class." "Yeah, we should." "But I'm going to miss you..." "Not as much as I will miss- Hi, Susie..."
Max froze; his face sank slightly as he looked at Roxanne.
"She's right behind me... isn't she?" He asked. "Yeah." Replied Roxanne. "Ok, how pissed off does she look?" Roxanne peaked at Susie over her boyfriend's shoulder before dipping back down. "For her, about a 7, an 8 tops." "Great"
Max took a deep breath, praying silently to whatever divinity might feel inclined to answer before he turned around to face the purple lizard.
"Heeey, Susie." Said Max, forcing on a casual expression and watching from the corner of his eyes how a few desperate, straggling students climbed out the window to get out of the largely deserted corridor. The old Max might have wanted to join them, but that was before he faced Bigfoot, started training with his dad, and got a girlfriend. He was not keen on starting anything now, but he would not run for the hills like everyone else. Still, Max knew how to improvise. "Looking good, did you- do something new with your hair?"

Ugh. Today, there were two that didn't flee. Teachers should be thanking her. There hasn't really been a tardy thanks to her and yet there were two loiterers not budging an inch. They were into each other which seemed to touch a nerve somewhere. Not to mention the fact that he was talking to HER! Susie. The person everyone else was running from! Hair? Oh, trying to make small talk, eh? She could do some small talk.
She snorted. "Yeah, actually. The last dweeb I punched that was loitering in the halls got some blood in it. Cool, right?" She slammed her fist into the lockers as she got in real close. She flashed a vicious, toothy smile."Wanna add some more color to it?" It was enough to make a sizable dent in the metal which told alot about how strong Susie was and that there was quite a bit of merit to everyone just launching themselves out of windows at her approach. Moreover, her grin was what really upped the intimidation factor in her eyes. It freaked them out or made it so they actually ran.

"This is bad." That was what Max thought to himself, but he would not show it! No, sir, never, nada. As Susie slammed her fist into the locker, Max tensed up as if he had been ready for her to punch him instead of the locker; thankfully, she did not... beat him. It felt odd; normally, he would have never been able to keep calm like this, but something felt different. Sure, Susie was uncomfortably close, and Roxanne was right next to him... also uncomfortably close to the situation. If things went south, he had to get her out of the way more than anything.
"It does—add colour." He said, clearing his throat. He took a deep breath, steadying himself. Dad was right—of course. " And, my blood aside, now that we have your attention." He held a hand to the side, gesturing towards Roxanne... who quickly caught his meaning, pulled out a flier from her backpack, and handed it to him. Max held the flier in front of Susie. It was the flier for the school play meeting, with the organizers written as Roxanne and Noelle Holiday.
"Roxie and Noelle finally persuaded the school to let them put on a play this year, but... the interest has been... low," Max explained quickly to ensure he did not lose her attention. "I think Principal Mazur is working against them because he wants the idea to fail, just to make... some kind of point." Principal Mazur was a well-known stick-in-the-mud kind of person, and anything the students viewed as fun was annoying at best, if not outright illegal in his mind.
Still, Violet Tormentor was difficult to read; she was usually just angry, so Max did not know if she would even consider this or if she would go straight to throwing hands. Hopefully, she would not, but he was ready for the option, his priority being to get Roxanne out of the way. Maybe this was a stupid idea, and he mainly went with a gut feeling. Noelle had talked about speaking with Susie, which was more than could be said for most students there.

Wait. He wasn't making small talk JUST to avoid getting his ass beat? usually, anyone she encountered was so eager to get away, they'd make up any excuse in the book to get away. Those cowards were so disingenuine and fake, that more often than not got her even more angry. It gave her pause. Pause enough for Max to present the flier which took Susie by surprise.
"Low interest, huh? Sucks to be...wait...she's...?" Noelle, it said? Wasn't that...? A warm fuzzy feeling invaded her chest. Hey! Go away! This here's an invasion-free chest! One of the very few people in this boring as hell place to even care enough to help her out. The only one that cared. Her attitude softened and her fist was drawn back. She went back to her usual resting grump face. The image of that sweet face being darkened by some big blowhard's ego diverted the anger to a new source. That girl was trying to do something and she was going to get stopped unless someone did something.
"Play, huh? Do people die in it? Is there property damage?" she'd quietly ask, interest piqued somewhat. If there was, she'd have a new target for her ire and if she acted on said ire,she might get expelled. Heh. Cool. It'd be worth it.

Max remained tense, waiting for her reaction, and watched as Susie lowered her fist. That had to be a good sign, even more so when she reverted from fury to her more neutral grumpy face, which... going by Susie, was generally a good thing. Max was very happy he paid attention when Roxanne and Noelle talked back when Susie first came to school, and even more if the natural force that was the Violet Tormentor would be directed at the moron of a Principal instead of him.
"We've not decided on the play yet," Roxanne said, carefully siding up next to Max. He could tell she was nervous from the way she grasped his arm. "That's what the first meeting is about. Since this is the first time they let us decide everything ourselves, we plan to make the most of it."
" And," said Max, squeezing Roxanne's shoulders and giving her an encouraging smile before looking at Susie again. "I know Noelle talked about wanting to do our take on a pirate adventure. It would have pirates, buried treasure, and cannons. There is nothing like some good action, maybe some explosions, sweet music, and duels. We could stick it to Mazur and maybe put a splash zone in the two first rows." Max paused, glancing to the side as a student was peeking in through the window. "If only we can... inspire people to join in."

As soon as no direction had been decided upon, Susie was about to suggest some really awesome things. Something so outlandish that it would baffle the principal. Heh. Boy, she'd love to see the shocked look on his face when she suggested it be a play about a giant monster ravaging the city named S-
Pirates?
She gave pause. Cannons? She smiled wide. Hell yeah! Explosions? Oh, she'd LOVE to cause some of those! Blow up a few seats and maybe a face! Hah, that'd be so cool! Music would be great too if she could bring in some of her own. An image popped into her head of swinging one of those...piratey swords that were curved and having a hook for a hand. Splash zone to get all of those folk wet and maybe mess up their stuff.
"Pirate stuff sounds pretty cool to me. Long as I get to be in it...and become a giant sea monster... and swing those curvy swords. Then I cut off my hand and put a hook on it! And blow stuff up!" she spied someone peeking in and rushed over to grab them by the collar and yank them inside. "YOU! JOIN THE PLAY! Then I can blow stuff up and make Mazur ever regret trying to cancel something as awesome as this!" She looked absolutely fiendish trying to convince someone who was otherwise terrified. "We could TOTALLY blow up the school with this and flood it with water to make everything super realistic!" She glared back at Max and Roxanne. "Wait...how many do you nerds need? I can get more....but that requires work...ugh..."

Max had NOT expected Susie to take to this idea in such an excited manner. Not that he minded; if anyone could bring the heat to Mazur, it would be Susie... and she did not seem to mind, or care, about getting into trouble. He exchanged a look with Roxanne as Susie rushed over to grab the poor student who dared to peek into the corridor.
"You think we overdid it?" Max whispered to his girlfriend, worried he might have done something wrong. But Roxanne just smiled weakly and shook her head.
"No, I think this might be just what we need, Maxie." She replied, giving him an encouraging smile. "Let's just go with it..."
Max returned his attention to Susie. That was a good question. How many would they need? He looked to Roxanne, who replied with a shrug—not helpful. It was both scary and encouraging that Susie was on board. If anything, none of the usual "bullies" would dare talk badly about the play.
"Well, we'll need actors and people working on things like clothes, props, and such. Bobby and P.J. have already agreed to help with lighting, music, and special effects." Max paused, folding his arms as he thought. "If you could get about seven people, that should be enough." It would look bad if every single person in the play were there under duress.

Seven, huh? Lucky number seven. What was lucky about the number seven anyways? She liked the number thirteen better anyway and thirteen was the bigger number, Just like how she was a bigger bully than the rest. But finding more than seven meant more work. Ugh. Fine, seven. She lightly tossed the student to Max and Roxanne with little effort. She then stomped around til she found a door and yanked open the storage closet where someone had hid. "Yeah I SAW you jump in there, buddy! Think you're pretty smart, huh?" she reached in, pulled them out and also tossed them over to the two. "Smart enough to join a play, I hope! Maybe they can make you cannon fodder!" she guffawed.
She zoomed over to a closed classroom door and pushed her face against it. "Awright, punks! Get on out of there! I'll break this door down! You know I will! I've done it six times now! Wanna make this regular number seven?! Pirates are cool!Get out of there and join this play I heard about!"
She turned back to look at Max and Roxanne. "What're you all calling it, huh? Bloodblade and Their Band of Gorey Mates? Nah, wait...Violetbeard the Eviscerator; a Tale of Dismemberment! Haha! Yeah, I like that one!"

Max and Roxanne watched Susie in stunned silence as she began her mission to harass the student body into joining the play. "Oh, crap!" Exclaimed Max, looking at the time, "We'll have to run to class."He grasped Roxanne's hand, and the two quickly descended the corridor, passing Susie as she looked into a classroom. It did not seem like she needed their help... and would most likely get in her way, something Max did not feel like dealing with. Not when she was in one of her rare "good moods." He still had the days classes to get through and would rather get to them in one piece if he could. "Oh, not decided yet," replied Roxanne to Susie's question, holding onto her bag in one arm and Max with the other. "That's also why we're meeting after classes. Noelle will be so happy you're coming, so we'll see you there. It'll be in the school assembly hall! We're going to offer snacks.""Catch ya later, Susie!" Said Max with a wave. Later, in the School Assembly Hall As the end of the school day came around, most students took the opportunity to escape the confined of the building, except a few who instead made their way to the Assembly Hall The school did not have much in terms of a great assembly hall, but it did the job, filled a function... if barely. The stage had seen better days, and the seats were, in a few words... uncomfortable. Max thought that the school intentionally made them uncomfortable to cause the students more suffering. But who could say for sure? Still, it had working lights and sounds. Now, some students were spread out among the seats at the front, lazily watching as Roxanne set up a table with snacks in front of the stage, with Noelle trying to get the microphone to work. With the assistance of the art teacher, a peafowl called Mr Fowler, one of the few adults at the school who was universally viewed as "cool" because of his love of rock music and horror movies, his chill and slightly, old-styled clothing... stoner personality... and a great dislike of Principal Mazur and societal norms. He had promised Noelle and Roxanne to keep the Principal out of any decisions made, and in some way, he had gotten the board behind him... Some students suspected bribery was involved. Still, Mr Fowler was only there in an advisory function. Max was sitting in the front row, fidgeting with a notebook and pencil, just in case he needed to take notes. There were still a few minutes left so that more people might arrive.

Sitting somewhere in the middle rows of the seats was Kris. They were wearing what they always wore: a green sweater that was a little too big for them. Their posture was a little slouched, just like they were in a classroom. The assenbly room was no different. It was a place where people assembled. There were quite a few people here already. Kris recognized Max. And Roxanne... and Noelle? Beneath their mess of hair, Kris blinked.
What were they doing here again?

The doors to the assembly hall flew open and in walked Susie in her usual debonair, avant-garde, devil-may-care...trudge. She gazed upon the gathering with narrowed eyes. So, how many of those good-for-nothing nerds actually showed up? She was ready to start remembering faces because those that didn't show up were getting them bitten off! Why was she trying this hard for this kinda thing? To stick it to Mazur. Hell yeah. That guy was the worst. Was that really the reason? Yeah, he wanted to smash that little hope of that...Noelle's. A cool as hell play with pirates. Freakin' pirates, dude! If she had a shot to aim a cannon at him, it'd be AWESOME! YES! She felt...something. She wasn't quite sure what it was. Maybe it was today's lunch coming up to say hello. Nah. This one actually felt...kinda nice for once.
She saw Noelle at the mic and smirked. Cool. She was here. Now she could get her to make alla that fun piratey stuff she wanted. Heh. Cool. But there was someone else she saw as her eyes looked around. That head of hair she laid eyes on could only be one person. the only human in Starlight Sanctum and in this whole school. The one that pretty much proved the existence of other worlds out there. And an easy mark to boot. Good ol' Kris. She grinned wide. She trudged down the aisle and acknowledged Noelle's presence with a head bob as well as that colorful dude who liked music. He was alright for an adult.
She then stomped into the row of chairs behind Kris. She slammed herself into a seat and kicked up her feet onto the head of the seat nearest Kris as she reclined to make the uncomfortable seat a bit more bearable. " 'Sup, nerd?"

"Looks like she came", Roxanne whispered as she came over to Max, nodding in Susie's direction as she came inside. "I hope this works. I'm a little worried..."
"Don't be, it's going to be fine, Roxie", Max said, holding her hand for a moment. "Mazur won't do anything, and even if he tries, Mr Fowler said he would take care of it. Now get over there with Noelle; she looks like she will pass out."
Roxanne smiled and gave Max a quick kiss, before walking over to Noelle onstage. The two talked with each other in hushed voices. Max glanced over his shoulder, noticing how Susie had taken up a seat in the row behind Kris, and he furrowed his brow every so slightly, making a mental note to make certain she did not do any funny business against them. Kris was the only human Max knew, and he liked them! Still, he was not going to do anything unless he had to, he did not want to ruin the moment for Roxanne and Noelle.
On the stage, Roxanne gave Noelle an encouraging pat on the shoulder. After a few moments of hesitation, Noelle walked over to the microphone... and after a few moments of awkward silence. "Hello..." her voice was amplified, which was a good thing, or no one would have heard her. "We're so glad many came to this meeting. Sorry for the... technical difficulties. I'm sure you all know why we're here, but just in case, I'll explain. We've been given the chance to put on a play and decide the whole production, what to make and how to do it. And thanks to the aid of Mr Fowler, we have also gotten a sponsor... so..." She paused and nervously flipped around in her notes before Roxanne came over and turned the page around. "Oh, yes... sorry... where was I?"
"The sponsor, Noelle," said Max helpfully.
"Ah, yes, thanks, Max... the sponsor. So, we will have a bigger budget than we initially thought, which is amazing. So, the first order of business, does anyone have any..." She lowered her stacks of papers and looked out over the small scattered crowd of students. "Ideas for what play we should make?"

Suddenly, Kris felt a shiver run down their spine. Not really. The idea of that was enough for them to grimace in the time before Susie actually arrived. Although they - somehow - hadn't been aware of Susie's approach, Kris appeared to take it in stride. They directed their head in the direction of Susie's feet, unceremoniously placed on the seat next to theirs. Okay, maybe they were a little startled. For a moment, they froze. What was it that Susie wanted? They needed to think fast.
While maintaining uneasy eye contact with Susie's boots, Kris raised their right index finger, pointing up at the ceiling.
Whatever they were here for started after that. Kris' attention was mostly on Susie's presence, though they didn't miss what Noelle was trying to say. Kris smirked. Their pointed finger turned into a raised hand, eager to be called on. They knew exactly what this play needed.
