This is an idea I have been thinking of making for a few years now. Originally, it was meant to be a book, but that never panned out. So, I started to think it could be a fun idea for an RP with a literary focus; we have similar things with comics and video games, so why not books and such stories? It is also partly inspired by Fable, and also the movie Pagemaster, but with the addition of more modern literary characters, places and stories. All names and such can and will likely change, just trying to show the general idea.
So, here goes...
The Great Library
Once upon a time, a story was told: a little girl journeyed to her grandmother’s house and was stalked by a big bad wolf, a boy travelled the high seas seeking treasure in the company of a cutthroat pirate, and the world's greatest detective was faced with the dastardly crimes of an archnemesis. Each fairy tale told, each story written, and each word published appeared amongst the shelves of The Great Library. Here, the stories could be given life and form. An ever-changing, eternally growing haven where the landscape becomes the bookshelves, and locations, like dreams, are never constant—a living collection of imagination-given life. The people became known simply as Storys, and the locations became known as Manifestations.
Staff cared for these tales; some were Eternals, created by the library to fill a function, and others were humans summoned to become protectors of these story-told people, also known as Guardians. Others were just Visitors, happening upon the library in their dreams, finding their way inside because of their imagination's power, or simply having childlike wonder.
So it was for untold ages until things changed. Tired of their lot, several fictional entities banded together to fight for freedom from the perceived shackles of the library and its staff. They became known in the library as The Fractured. Due to this growing threat, a council was created, composed of representatives of the greatest genres, known as The Fourteen. But, other factions have also started to appear, some taking advantage of the situation for personal gains and others trying to do what they perceive as the right thing, or just trying to survive.
One thing is certain: The Fractured seek a way out of the library, but what danger could such entities pose if they breech the gates and spill onto the world of mortals?
I'll try to answer any questions you might have about this idea. ^_^ Just taking feel on if people would be interested in this idea at all, or not.
