Historia
A Fictional Life
A Manifested Existance
Professor McGonagall materialised in the Great Library simultaneously with Hogwarts and, by extension, Hogsmead, together with most of the Denizens linked to it at an unknown point after their original creation. Ever the pragmatic person, it did not take the Professor long to get a feel for their situation, taking steps to safeguard the students together with the other teachers of the school. Things became clearer upon a visit from The Librarian in the company of the wizard Gandalf the Grey, whom The Librarian felt were suited to blend in in a way that would not alarm the young witches and wizards at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The revelation of being a fictional character, a creation of imagination and dreams, was something that came as a great surprise for Professor McGonagall, but, at the same time, she did not feel that she had the luxury of losing herself to these emotions, no, doing so would be more of a harm for the young students.
In the company of some of the other students, Professor McGonagall ventured out of Hogwarts to explore their new home—this mysterious Library. She earned herself many allies, but there was also no small shortage of enemies to be found, and Minerva was not one to back down from a confrontation... thankfully, her skills became a great boon for her survival.
Since then, Minerva has made a name among the Denizens as a skilled witch, powerful sorceress, and unscrupulously courageous person. Much like what Gandalf did, Minvera also accompanies The Librarian when he vents to visit the newly materialised "Camp Half-blood", with The Librarian wanting her there due to her experience with teenagers and her no-nonsense attitude. She found the demigods of the camp to be... very similar to her students at Hogwarts. Hogwarts has also become a location for all magically inclined Denizens and Guardians looking for magical training (mainly those who gained wands among their equipment.)
Still, life was not that different for the Transfiguration Professor, even if the world they existed in was no longer the same... and the Ministry's influence was far more limited. The whole notion of the stature of secrecy was very redundant.
The Black Foe of the World
When the dark Vala, Morgoth, assaulted the Entrance Hall with his allies, Minerva came to defend the Library. Together with some others, she ended up in a brutal duel with Morgoth's most powerful servant, the dark Maia, Sauron. Professor McGonagall could not defeat him, and all she could do was stall until the arrival of The Librarian, at which point Sauron chose to retreat well before Morgoth was defeated. Things might have gone very differently otherwise, and Minerva has only recently recovered from this particularly harrowing ordeal!
Still, much damage had been done, and several Guardians were badly hurt in the conflict. Using her Leadership skills, Minerva quickly organised a rescue and relief effort to save as much of the Entrance Hall as possible.
Founding of The Order of the Gates
It was in the aftermath, and after a conversation with Galadriel, that Professor McGonagall realised that the system of the Great Library was severely lacking when it came to helping new Guardians and Visitors navigate their way around the Library and all its many Denizens... many of who would not hesitate to do them harm if given half a chance. So it was that Professor McGonagall, upon the approval of The Fourteen, founded the faction dubbed The Order of the Gates, whose duty was to function as a home and safety new for humans arriving and staying in The Great Library.
So far, Minerva has taken to regularly travelling between The Entrance Hall and Hogwarts when she is not working to recruit new Denizens to the cause.
Appearance
Visual
General Appearance
Minerva McGonagall is a tall, severe-looking woman in her 70s. Most of the time, her black hair is combed back into a tight bun. Rarely smiling, Minerva remains one of the Library's more serious-looking Denizens. She is a witch with a generally prim exterior who keeps her clothes as pristine as possible. She has a fondness for tartan-printed clothes linked to her Scottish heritage. She is never without her squared spectacles, which remain distinct markings even in her cat form.
Weapons & Equipment
Minerva McGonagall's Wand
Professor McGonagall's magic wand is a 9½ inches long, fir wood wand with a dragon heartstring core. It is known to be well-suited to Transfiguration magic.
Personality
In her own words, she had her father's temperament and her mother's magical ability. Minerva almost constantly exudes magnanimity and sternness, being held in great respect (and some fear) by nearly all Denizens and other people living in the Great Library. Minerva is used to having her way; she tolerates neither audacity nor silliness from those around her, be they students or otherwise, and is known to turn cold towards people who say or do things in front of her that are stupid or if she thinks they were trying to be funny. A woman who rarely smiles or gives away compliments freely. Still, she does have a certain dry sense of humour, which usually shows itself during difficult times. All in all, Minerva McGonagall is never afraid to speak her mind and can have a very sharp tongue, especially in an argument or vigorous debate.
True to Gryffindor, Minerva values bravery and courage highly, believing cowardice to be a heavy flaw. She won't hesitate to fight to defend her student, not letting things like her fears stop her from doing what she believes to be right. Still, she is also very fair-minded and would never let fool-hardy courage cause the unnecessary demise of someone young and inexperienced.
For the most part, though, Minerva usually maintained great emotional composure without being indifferent. That is to say, Minerva is not without a heart. She has been known to be very empathic in times of need, showing a softer and more caring side towards those she views as her students, be they other Denizens, Visistors, Guardians, or even Eternals. And, albeit rarely, she has something of a temper, which can flare up from time to time when push comes to shove, a trait she inherited from her father. She also has a keen eye for spotting trouble more quickly than others; paired with her no-nonsense personality, she can act quickly in such moments.
Professor McGonagall has a cast-iron sense of duty and morals. As a law-abiding Denizen, she is a staunch follower of the rules set by The Librarian and the purpose of The Great Library itself. She knows the danger of the powers found inside the Library, as well as the danger such powers might pose if they were to escape to the outside world.
Relationships
Friends/Allies
Professor Albus Dumbledore
In her stories, Professor McGonagall has known Albus most of her life; he was her teacher during her time at school, and she hired her as Transfigurations professor. The two have shared a lot, and Minerva is one of the few in Dumbledore's confidence, albeit it is not for everything. Even upon materializing inside the Great Library and gaining knowledge of herself as a fictional character, Minerva remains a close ally to the Hogwarts Headmaster.
Gandalf
Minerva's relationship with Gandalf is one of mutual respect and understanding, similar to, but also different from, how she gets along with Professor Dumbledore. She respects Gandalf for his wisdom more than anything else, recognising it more readily than others would from a glance. She knows the power that can be found, even if the old wizard is not keen to boast or show off his magic. He is NOT your garden variety wizard; she would be a fool to spurn his council when given it.
Mary Poppins
Mary and Minerva get along very well, largely from having a no-nonsense attitude towards things. Mary was also among the first to volunteer for the cause of the Order of the Gates.

Abilities & Skills
Magical Mastery
Minerva is an exceptionally powerful and talented witch. She has extremely advanced magical knowledge, proving herself capable time and time again of mastering and performing highly advanced and difficult spells. Even the powerful users of the dark arts have acknowledged the skill of Professor McGonagall, putting her as one of the most dangerous enemies of the forces of evil. Minerva was taught Transfiguration by Albus Dumbledore, showing an unusually high level of talent even at a young age. With Dumbledore's guidance, she was skilled enough to achieve the Animagus transformation at seventeen. This highly advanced and challenging process could be disastrous if gotten wrong. As an adult, her skills in Transfiguration were exceptional, as she could effortlessly animate a large number of objects simultaneously during battle.
Minerva was shown to be incredibly skilled in charm work, using several different charms in combination without much effort, both in battle and everyday life. Minerva had mastered the Patronus Charm, creating a powerful corporeal Patronus in the form of a cat, and could also use her Patronus to communicate. Minerva is exceptionally experienced and accomplished in defensive magic, defeating powerful dark wizards and witches and even surviving a duel with Sauron during the Assault on the Gates.
While not fond of the Dark Arts, Professor McGonagall can still use many spells that would be considered Dark, even performing the Imperius Curse in cases of emergency. She also shared an aptitude for manipulating fire with her former teacher, Professor Dumbledore, who was able to call upon some destructive firepower in times of need.
She is well-versed in other branches of magic: Potions, Flying, Apparition, Ancient Runes, and Herbology.
Wandless & Nonverbal Magic
Minerva is known to be extremely skilful at non-verbal magic for various spells, especially transfiguration spells and charms, which she can perform with just a wave of her wand. This is a testament to her formidable magical skills, as both these branches of magic are notoriously difficult to begin with, not to mention doing them nonverbally, which requires intense concentration and focus. She can also perform certain spells intentionally without her wand and often endlessly conjures a textbook or other objects without needing her wand.
Duelling
Minerva is an immensely skilful duellist, displaying incredible speed and precision with her spell work. She has easily been able to overpower Denizens physically younger than herself, using a combination of experiences and skill to hold her own in a fight, even against more formidable opponents. She made up for her power with creative spellcrafting, with a particular skill in using Transfiguration during a duel, similar to how Professor Dumbledore trained her.
Leadership
Professor McGonagall is an exceptionally effective leader. She can take charge of any situation within minutes. This knack for leadership inspired her to found the Faction known as The Order of the Gates because she saw a need for people who could welcome humans arriving at the Library, where they had been largely dumped into the place without much explanation. Her experiences as a teacher have also been a big help when it comes to welcoming new Visistors and future Guardians into the fold and world of the Great Library.
Physical aptitude
It should be noted that Minerva is in excellent physical condition despite her old age. Her popularity in the real world and her longevity in her fiction have made it possible for the witch to take a serious beating that might take down more youthful Denizens.
Intellectually Gifted
Despite all her magical skills and aptitude, Professor McGonagall's most dangerous weapon is her intelligence, which can make her a dangerous opponent to the forces of evil. She is also an effective teacher, knowing how to get information and knowledge to stick where it should.
