Inventory:
(Your character's inventory. This will be managed by moderators upon approval and thereafter.)
Milestone:
Bring an end to enslavement of nonhuman folk. Reed is strongly against the way nonhumans are treated. He finds in inhuman and morally unjust.
Chronicle:
The Whitford family have been long standing nobles for generations, starting with Reeds great-great-grandfather who was a well-known general that lead Galt to many victories before retirement. His great-grandfather then took up the same mantel, before his grandfather found a different approach and became more well versed and travelled, becoming an excellent ambassador. His father and himself have taken the same roll and continued that tradition though with one major difference in their way of thinking.
It was Reed’s father, Gerald who first found how salves were often treated to be disgraceful. At a young age, Gerald witnessed his own father whipping an elven woman for not cleaning the floors properly in their estate. She was wailing in pain and when he tried to stand up for her, he got a swift back hand to the face and a scolding about how the lesser folk need to be kept in line. His father warned him that they were disgusting monsters who were put in their place to prevent them from harming humans. However, Gerald was a kind soul. He took the time to speak with the slaves and befriend them. Feeling as though, “If there are intelligent enough to speak with us and understand us, then they are no different from us.” He began arguing with his father quite often. When Gerald was twenty, his father fell ill and reminded him to carry on their families legacy. Gerald left the elder man with these words:
“I’ll shall do as you asked, father, but with one major change. Some humans are monsters. Some are thieves. Some are murderers. Some are rapists and adulterers. Yet we treat all humans with respect until they prove they do not deserve it. How are these people different, father? Some are monsters, as you say. Yet some are innocent and kind souls who are trying their best to work through life in a world that no longer accepts them. They are people, and I respect them. If no one else will, then let it be known that I, at least, respect them. Our family, going forward, shall continue to be well-travelled, well-read, and powerful as you so desperately want. However, we will no longer be lacking in kindness.”
Years later, those are the morals that Reed has grown up with and passed on to his children. He has continued in his father’s footsteps and brought is plan further heights. At only fifteen, Reed pitch the idea of what he called “Freedom’s Crossing” to Gerald. A secret path that crossed through all the major areas where nonhumans are enslaved and treated poorly, and helps bring them to locations were they can live freely while providing them with a bit of money and necessities to get their lives started. Gerald was already freeing slaves by buying them from traders before treating them as employed instead of enslaved, paying them and giving them a advice on how and where they can live freely once they have earned the funds. Reed’s plan took it a step further… and was much more illegal. He wanted to not only free SOME slaves, but as many as he possibly could even if it meant “stealing from others.” In his mind, you can’t steal what does not belong to you, and someone’s life is not a thing that can be owned by another.
Gerald helped him set up and plan, but refused to help him with it directly. There had to be a back up plan if his boy got caught after all. And so, the Whitford’s “Freedom’s Crossing” was slowly put into motion, gaining secret alliances and followers who helped along the path. This is actually how he met his ex-wife, Deliah. She was a wonderful whirlwind of a woman and could lead to and from the Crossing in speeds that Reed never imagined without being caught. She bore him five children before sadly passing in child birth and leaving him as widowed, single father. Now, Reed is grown and still has yet to be caught in his scheme. He has taken his father’s old role as a the coverup, while is eldest child has taken his old role of the primary group leader through the Crossing. All his children, now ages eighteen to twelve, have become wonderful upstanding people that he believes Deliah would be more than proud of. They work as a unit towards their end goal. One day, ONE DAY, there will be harmony.
