OOC: Please keep in mind this is a retro thread, aka a thread that takes place before the current plots and stories. This is just something fun I recently thought of, plus it gives some of yall some Nocturne goodness. Enjoy
-------------------------------
A impenetrable scowl sat on Nocturne's face as he sat on a clay mound. On his head was a shiny crown, and this mound was set within one of the city scape arenas. "Welcome to the extra credit games. You've been chosen by Giga-bite to participate and see if you can earn some points for your grade. The sports fest is a around the corner, so I'm assuming this is important to you..." The crown shift slightly, and the dusk hero was quick to adjust. It clashed incredibly hard with his appearance.
In front of Nocturne was a similarly scowling, Ivan, already in his hero get up. "Our first game is Keep Away. On my head is this precious crown, as I'm the king. I'll be here on this soft mound, and you need to figure out a way to snatch it. I have my royal guard to assist. His duty is to save me, BUT he must return me to this mound OR return the crown itself to my head within a 5 minute time frame. Do with that information what you want. " He nodded to Ivan, who nodded as well. "You're free to use any gear included in your kit, and you can even talk to myself through comms for tips to get passed Crest here. He's been itching for a fight, but he DID promise to keep this educational."
"Ready?"
"Yessir..." Ivan felt this to be a silly task, but it would feed his hunger for action.

Shizo looked around the training area, wondering how he'd gotten himself roped into this. Sure extra-credit was all well and good... but that was a third year standing guard right? He looked down at his hero outfit. They said he was allowed to use his hero gear but he really didn't have much of it. Or at least, what he had wasn't useful to him yet. UA's therapists were great, he was making great progress on his issues they said, and it was true, he was. But... he glanced at his hand, forming some sparks of electricity in his palm... nope it still made his chest tighten up looking at it. Best he could hope for was individual bolts without causing a panic attack.
The "tatoos" on his body were his only piece of gear right now, being adhesive pads that just looked like tattoos, he'd considered getting a baton to electrify with his quirk but he hadn't submitted a request yet. The tattoos would amplify his quirk, letting him generate larger bolts and control them even more precisely, but that didn't amount to much when he was still too scared to actually put out his full power. So with that in mind... what the hell was he going to do fighting a third year? If he could tap into his full power without his phobia sure, he might have the kind of raw firepower to close that gap... but as he was?
Shizo looked over Ivan, standing confidently, evaluating him. He didn't know much about this guy, some of the third years he knew their quirks from having seen them in sports festivals, or just by reputation. But this one was a recent transfer, there wasn't really intel on him save from what little he could find online about his past exploits abroad, which he couldn't find much about... researching international heroes was always a hassle. All he really knew was the guy was a physical combatant... so maybe this wasn't a complete lost cause. Shizo might not have full access to his quirk's extensive ranged potential, but he could electrify his body just fine, and he'd been drilled in so many martial arts courses and physical conditioning routines that he was confident in his hand to hand skills. And he had learned one trick from class so far...
"Ok... I'll give it my best." Shizo said as he took his own ready stance, defaulting to a martial arts stance that emphasized speed as he awaited the signal to begin. Electricity began coursing through his body, making sparks dance along his skin, but he focused on channeling it inward. Thanks to his classmate Yoichi's... let's call it "passionate" encouragement... he had started working on a new way to apply his power beyond just making him a human taser. His nervous system and muscles, they all ran on electrical signals. By using his quirk on his own body he could supercharge them and enhance his physical abilities greatly... but he was still working on this technique, he couldn't sustain it continuously yet. Still... a burst of speed or two at the right moments to get past the guard and nab the crown was all he needed, then he could just make himself too dangerous to touch in order to get it back.

Nocturne smirked. "Game start." Promptly Ivan would take a few steps and claps Nocturne shoulder as the teacher initiated the game. In Shizo's ear, the radio would push out some static before clearly relay Nocturne's voice. "You're clear Ivan, I'm connected to the both of you. Make your calls as you see fit.""Alright, then." Ivan patted the teacher's shoulder before lugging him over his shoulder. There was no fight from the number 10. He simply let himself be carried. In almost an instant, Ivan's left leg, and right arm became clad in a dark armor. "Shizo, I'll explain a few things to you. You both start with 100 points. You both have the option to use penalties as you see fit worth 20 points each, essentially five assists you can use to thwart your opponent by yours truly. Using up all five penalties, however, means winning is quite literally pointless as there won't be any credits awarded to your win. Once this game is over the roles will reverse, putting you on defense, and him on offense. Simply shout penalty into my ear with your comm, and I'll trip him up as I see fit. I'm nobody's ally here... only an instructor. " Nocturne would explain. Basically, cheating was allowed but as a cost of their credits. Ivan calmly assesed his situation, and waited for Shizo to make his move. It was clear, he preferred fighting against the 5 limit time limit over being a sitting duck with Nocturne on that mound. Rather Ivan carefully listened for the rules... There already was an underlying plan set up. With his first step off the mound, Nocturne began his five minute timer. "5 minutes starting now..." With that que, Ivan would casually trot away from Shizo going toward the North end of the city scape. Seemingly his aim was for the sky scrapers. His pace wasn't particularly fast, rather it seemed like he was watching over his shoulder to see how Shizo would react.

Shizo paused as Ivan changed the game with his strategy. Taking Nocturne off the mound was a risk, it essentially completed one of Shizo's objectives for him. He won if he kept the crown or Nocturne off the mound for five minutes after all. However since Nocturne was being carried by Ivan it sort of reversed their roles here. Now instead of being on the offensive trying to get the targets off the mound, it placed him on defense trying to keep them off... so what was the best way to do that?
On one hand, he could just stand guard on the mound, let Ivan do his thing, no matter where he went it didn't much matter if he couldn't get Nocturne back to the mound. But did he want to just let Ivan get out of sight and do god knows what? He didn't know the boy's quirk, all he knew is Ivan was a physical combatant, and that his arm and leg were now clad in armor. Physical enhancement perhaps? In that case if he chased the 3rd year across the city Ivan could probably outrun him and get back at the last moment. But if the armor did something else... damnit all the lack of information made choosing how to do this a real pain. Then the next move was to gain information by attacking while Ivan was still close to the mound.
Shizo darted towards Ivan, he was fast, but not superhumanly so, just a very fit teenager. As he got close though he used electricity on his legs to launch himself forward even faster at the last moment, moving at high speed as he went for a full body tackle. If Ivan tried to block he'd find himself getting electrocuted as Shizo wouldn't hesitate to simply zap the 3rd year full force.
But Shizo didn't expect to land the tackle, it was obvious and would be pretty easy to just sidestep even with it's enhanced speed, expecting instead to hit the ground, landing on his hands and pivoting on them into a spinning kick from below, the kick itself wasn't very powerful, but it was coming from an unorthodox place and timing, and Shizo didn't need to do damage with the kick, he just needed to make contact and electrocute his target. Ivan didn't know HIS quirk either so long as he kept the electricity internal, so blocking the seemingly weak and desperate kick would be the safe option from an uninformed perspective. And if he did, he'd get zapped with a powerful taser-like shock to try and stun him.

Ivan eyed Shizo carefully. He couldn't tell what this kid could do, but if Yoichi were any indicator of what 1a had to offer, he knew not to sneeze at the younger kids. They had every right to want to become heroes as much as he did. Whether they were strong or not, Ivan respected their grit and ideals. People with strong ideals were ones who could always rise to the occasion. The 3rd year's pace didn't falter. It was more like he welcomed the offense Shizo was presenting.
Upon the incoming tackle, Ivan quickly tossed Nocturne up into the air as he spun to face the assault head to head. His leg reeled back, tracking Shizo's movement and prepping for the incoming kick. If this were striker against striker, Ivan knew he almost always had the advantage. The two students shins would collide, the harsh thud didn't bother Ivan any, but he wasn't quite sure the same could be said for Shizo. He held back quite a bit so there wouldn't be any broken bones... At least not yet.
Above, Nocturne large shadow loomed over the both of them. "Now what?..." He noted as he watched from above.

Shizo winced a bit in pain as his shin met Ivan's, yep, that was the shin of a close combat specialist alright. Still, the fact his kick was low powered and just meant to make contact meant he wouldn't walk away from this with much more than a bruise. Ivan on the other hand, was about to get a whole lot worse than that. The moment their shins made contact, Shizo's quirk flared to life, turning his leg into a living taser that was already in contact with Ivan.
The one upside to his phobia making him not use his quirk outside his body much was it was hard to see this coming until it happened, and Shizo didn't need to hold back either, since Nocturne-sensei had been tossed in the air, so he pumped as much electricity into Ivan through the point of contact as possible. He wasn't sure just how durable Ivan was, but nobody was going to take the full force of a quirk that could bring down the zero point robot in the entrance exams and just walk it off... he figured that metallic looking armor wasn't going to do Ivan any favors either.

Nocturne's eyebrow raised. He was more impressed by how much hang time Ivan had granted him. Just when exactly was he supposed to come down? It wasn't that the teacher wasn't concerned for his students... it's just matches like this tended to get pretty rowdy. It was to be expected honestly. He chose for Ivan to have a quirk disadvantage on purpose. Being on defense was also more stressful, which he also decided to put Ivan through first. Ivan was a person who wanted to win and stress often heightened his focus. So was it all bad? Ivan's eyes went blank for a moment. His body waned backward, jittering to the lightning entering his body. "Low down... dirty... scheming sensei.... " Still conscious it seemed. In another moment his body tightened as he reestablished his footing, and he was already at Nocturne's height in a single jump off his clad leg. "Rise above..." Nocturne would feel another tug as Ivan pulled him in and kicked the air to propel the both of them higher to cast an even wider, darker shadow.
"Penalty. I need a distraction... or space. Make it happen." Ivan's eyes hadn't left Shizo. His laser focus was on understanding his new opponent. It wasn't the first time he got shocked and it wouldn't be his last.
"Fine, then...You're at 80 points extra credit toward your grade now. " Nocturne abided. He too would focus all of his attention on Shizo now, clutching his hand and implementing his quirk in to the very shadow they casted onto him.
Shizo would have to act quick as the maw of the hero's signature dragon dive, erupted up and slammed shut. If it successfully landed the serpentine shadow would launch itself multiple meters toward the sky scrapers. If it missed the violent movement would crack the ground and tear up anything that would be in it's path before dissipating under the sun's rays. Shizo would have to watch out for the long whipping tail as it rushed about.

Shizo allowed himself a smile as his tactic seemed to work. He'd been a bit worried that his full output might be overkill and seriously hurt the older student, but Ivan staggering back and breaking contact ensured he didn't get zapped with enough voltage to do a life-threatening amount of damage. His smile faded when Ivan launched himself skyward though. A one-legged jump of that height right after being zapped? Well that explained the basics of how his quirk worked then. Whatever limbs were clad in armor were super-strength enhanced... was that all there was to it? No, there had to be more, raw strength wouldn't let him kick off the air to double jump.
There was no time to ponder it though, as Ivan called for Nocturne's aid while tossing him higher up, casting the field in shadow. "Oh shit" he said as he rolled to his feet from his odd kicking position. He could get away with restraining his quirk against a fellow student. But against a top ten hero? Shizo's pulse quickened. Nocturne hadn't even attacked yet but Shizo instinctively knew he was in trouble if he didn't face this at full power... but his phobia would kick in if he saw his electricity... wait a minute.
As the massive serpentine shadow erupted. Shizo closed his eyes and clamped his hands over his ears, then emitted electricity out in all directions around himself, creating a great deal of light to break up the attack, while preventing himself from seeing or hearing it happen. It was a crude solution, and he had to keep doing it for longer than was necessary just to ensure he successfully defended himself when he couldn't see if he had done so or not. So Ivan did get his distraction regardless, and to see that Shizo was capable of projecting his electricity outwards... though clearly not without hangups.
Shizo eventually stopped projecting, and opened his eyes. He was still breathing heavily and unnerved, but he was handling it. So long as he kept his output brief, or if he didn't see it, it seemed he could circumvent his phobia somewhat. It wasn't a cure, just a stopgap, but it was something. Plus the threat of such a powerful attack was one hell of a motivator to push through fear with. Still, he didn't make a move to follow up on Ivan, instead guarding the mound and taking time to compose himself again.

Nocturne tapped his chin as he and Ivan landed on a nearby roof top. He enjoyed seeing Shizo overcome his super move, but noticed something, -Mmm... why'd he cover up like that if he knew he could use the lightning's flash to break free....?- He glanced at Ivan who had still yet to break focus. "Ivan you're at 2 and a half minutes left." He mentioned. Ivan took a second to think about it. "That''s fine. Somethings been bugging me ever since you explained those rules anyway... Ivan spat on the ground. "All I really have to do is beat him, right?" Nocturne remained quiet. Ivan would sit Nocturne at the edge of the roof and keep watch on Shizo. Shizo looked a bit shaken up. Though out of the had the least damage done to him. Instead of engaging Ivan only watched. Rather he needed time to think about committing to beating Shizo or sticking to these offense biased rules. ... "2 minutes."... "One minute."... "thir-...ty seconds?" Nocturne was picked up and to his surprise was launched at Shizo with full force. Being the hero he was, Nocturne was able to adjust in mid air and land on his feet. Promptly skidding to a stop, he safely ended his slide right next to Shizo on top of the mound. "Five four three... that counts. But Ivan, you lose if he takes my -oh?" The teacher nodded to Shizo, before experiencing a momentary befuddlement. Shizo's objective crown to snatch was missing from Nocturne's head. In fact, in the midst of being launched, Nocturne himself hadn't even noticed until he put his hand up to adjust the missing headpiece. Ivan smirked in a crouched position with both legs clad. He snapped, proud of his own deduction. "These rules, sensei... his only objective is the crown to snatch. My objective is saving you OR getting the crown to you if Shizo snatched it. You're a sly one, but I figured it out. There's a trick to playing defense, right...? Or else why would make it so hard to win on this side? Am I just supposed to fight forever until Shizo snatches this thing? Fat chance. I'll be the winner of this bout and I'll do it on my terms. " He seemed quite satisfied to have figured it out. Saying it out loud meant, Shizo would have to figure out and battle this disadvantage when it was his turned. The teacher's ways were always a lot more extreme than others. He wanted to push students to their limits. Nocturne smoothed his hair back in annoyance. Special trick? It honeslty wasn't even that complicated. The only objective of defense was to save Noc and bring the crown back to Noc... to be a savior... He called out to his student, "Hmph, aren't you on defense? I already told you what to do. Shizo just needs to play offense. "
Ivan smiled big. By doing this, the game felt more even. Shizo now had Nocturne as a chess piece, while he had the crown. They both had something they wanted to fight for and something to protect. They both had penalties to use up, and Ivan had the caveat of already playing. What was the harm in using one more? Now this was going to be exciting. "Penalty! Get moving. That'll give us 5 more minutes when you get off that mound, right?" He shot down from his perch, and kick the air to gain some air and speed in his descent toward them. Nocturne sucked his teeth. Since Ivan was so honed in on how to win, he spoke only to Shizo- "Tch, fine. Offense wins if they snatch the crown, or force a timer to zero. Defense is strictly graded on hero points, not success. There are situations, where you may not be able to win, but how you carry yourself til the end matters. Ivan knows that, but he's more focused on beating you than being a hero, right now." There was a bit of disappointment in Nocturne's voice. Ivan typically was the spitting image of a hero, but his ego often got in the way. A shadow dragon's maw would snap shut around the hero before rapidly transporting him a few meter away. For someone who'd recently turned fourty, the man was annoyingly fast. Ivan hit the ground running right toward Shizo, crown in hand. As it stood Shizo only needed to keep playing as he needed. Ivan had accidentally turned himself into the villain here. Current Totals: Ivan= 60 Shizo=100

By the time the timer ran down, Shizo had composed himself. The closed eye trick was definitely a keeper. It sacrificed his high degree of control, but being able to use the full force of his firepower at range was a solid trade. He was about to win the exercise as Ivan just... stared at him... Shizo stared back up, starting to think mayyyyybe he'd shocked Ivan a bit too hard earlier. Was he... ok?
And then Ivan hurled Nocturne at the mound. Shizo's eyes widened and he moved to intercept, he didn't bother trying to keep Nocturne off the mound. He was more concerned with the human body hurtling at high speed toward the ground and making said body not crash into the ground and die. Thankfully Nocturne was skilled enough to stick the landing anyway, but Shizo did his best to help break Nocturne's momentum regardless. It was a shame the timer would reset, but Shizo was more worried about the mental state of Ivan as he began ranting about the nature of the contest.
As Ivan spoke, Shizo began grasping what was going through Ivan's head, he could feel the fighting spirit from here. Ivan was planning on going on the offensive and just taking him down. It made sense, Nocturne hadn't actually set a win condition for Ivan's defense, just two separate lose conditions. Nocturne's input afterwards confirmed this... but one particular line of the explanation stood out to him
"There are situations, where you may not be able to win, but how you carry yourself til the end matters"
as Ivan took another penalty to have Nocturne leave the mound again to start a new timer... which was very much counterproductive since his objective was to KEEP Nocturne on the mound... Shizo mulled that over. Strictly speaking he was pretty sure he couldn't win this as he was now. Seeing a bit of Ivan's physical prowess already, if Ivan was going for an all out offensive... this was going to be a difficult assault to weather. So the exercise was partially about no-win scenarios huh? Shizo glanced at the crown and mound... wouldn't that mean...
He didn't get much more time to mull that over before Ivan was on him, those clad legs were fast. Shizo decided to make full use of his new trick though, closing his eyes and thrusting a hand forward to unleash a crisscrossing net of lightning in the area in front of him, forcing Ivan to break off the straight charge and come from a different angle, or he'd get fried. He didn't maintain it for long, he was just trying to zone the guy and he couldn't afford to keep his eyes closed, still the brief duration gave him the leeway to put a lot of power into it to ensure Ivan wouldn't fare well if he just tried to tank it.

Upon arrival, Nocturne patted Shizo on the shoulder and nodded to let the boy know he was okay. Though with Ivan's penatly order, he was already quite a ways away watching the two closely. Softly, his hand rest on his bokken while the other was still his pocket. The only downside to working with Ivan was he hadn't had all three years to work with him, as he did with other students. The boy was as foreign as working with Shizo in this instance. Still... the boy said he'd hold back... right? A screeching sound could be heard as sparks flew from halted feet, Ivan coasted to a slower speed when he noticed the lightning net. There was a soft whirring sound that could be heard, as his body jerk and was forcibly pulled to the second story balcony of a nearby building. In the third year's hand was his handheld reeling device, snapping shut and quickly shoving it back into his sash, as he leaped sky bound from the railing. Ivan was showing a bit of his arsenal now; a quirk that provided armor cladding, the ability to make snap decisions on the fly and devices that aided his quirked mobility. Shizo was absolutely right in his assumption of Ivan being a physical combatant from the beginning, but the prowess had yet to be measured. As Ivan floated over Shizo and landed on the other side of the lightning net, it seemed as if his clad legs had a shimmer to them. They quaked with excess power build up.
"You don't know me, so you'll definitely remember the name Crest. My quirk clads me with super powered armor. Nice to meet ya. " He chirped confidently, his left leg was already wound up as his right absorbed the impact of his landing with ease. Like a whip, his leg kicked out unleashing a silver beam with gold shimmer flaking off of it aimed right at Shizo.
"RADIANT GUN"

Shizo heard the whirring noise over the crackling of elecricity, and stopped projecting the net so he could open his eyes, looking around wildly to reestablish visual contact with Ivan. He found the boy as he landed on one foot, with some assistance from him explaining his quirk and hero name.
The delay in finding Ivan almost cost him dearly though, as by the time he'd turned his body to face his senpai the silver beam was hurtling towards him. "oh shit oh shit oh shit" Shizo said, cursing himself for not being prepared for a ranged attack. He'd assumed Ivan was just a CQC fighter because of the super powered armor, he hadn't factored in that he might be able to strike from range. That made closing his eyes like he had been a lot riskier. But there was no time to worry about that!
With limited time to react Shizo did the only thing he could, unleashing a full powered bolt of lightning with everything he had to meet the beam mere moments before it would've struck him. He didn't have time to properly charge up, but his firepower should still...
CRACK-BOOM
Thunder erupted as the two energies clashed and exploded, cancelling each other out. Or they would've canceled out if the explosion weren't right in Shizo's face. He tumbled backwards as dust and dispersed energy formed a cloud between him and Ivan that sparked with electricity... probably not safe to enter until the energy settled down a bit
"owwwwww..." Shizo groaned, a bit dazed from the blast as he instinctively rolled to his knees to control his momentum and let him get back up. He was going to be feeling that for a while unless he visited Dr. Brine. He had several nasty bruises and some burns from the proximity of the explosion. Better than him getting hit directly... but it was a testament to how strong Ivan was that even parrying his attack did this much damage to him. That was a third year for ya... or... was it? Shizo got a twinge of suspicion that he was dealing with someone a lot like him, having been trained before coming to UA, the gap didn't seem like just a two years of formal training gap. He couldn't tell if that impressive attack power was just a year gap, natural quirk power, or a new member of the shitty parents club gap though.
No time to dwell though, he couldn't be thinking about such irrelevant things mid-fight! He'd lost track of where Ivan was again between closing his eyes to fire off his bolt and the resulting dust cloud, so he needed to move. Ivan couldn't see him either but standing still for another one of those beams was a death sentence.
Glancing around, Shizo made his call, scrambling on top of the soft mound he was meant to defend and preparing to defend himself, charging his body with electricity so he couldn't be grabbed if Ivan snuck up on him successfully. He also had a last ditch effort plan now. He wanted to win this legitimately if he could. But after that clash he was sure he needed a backup plan. The way the rules were laid out, there was a loophole that would allow him to achieve a pyrrhic victory in a real hero versus villain scenario, and a victory by technicality here... if he couldn't fend Ivan off using his quirk-type advantage, he'd execute his plan before he got too beat up to take on the defensive side of their contest.

Upon the collision and blowback of the two colliding forces, Ivan slowly reeled his leg back into a kicking position. To be honest, he kept the early portion of this fight tame so he could gather load for his armor. Legs still shimmering, he emitted a pressure. Despite not being directly in front of Shizo, it's possible his lust for battle was still reaching him from their distance. Going into that clad seemed risky. Clanking could be heard as his cladding released his legs, and requipped itself to his right arm. Instead of a kick, a punch would do. The smartest route would be to just blast it all away with a single punch. "After seeing my radiant gun, you think hiding in the dust cloud is gonna work." The stance was one of a boxer, light on his toes and poised as his bounced from one foot to the other. With a strong lead foot he leaned into a haymaker despite his opponent being so far. From the strong right handed swing, power came erupting from the movement in the form of a shimmering shockwave. The ground broke apart, windows shattered, nearby cars crumpled and an incredible gale force was pressed forwards as the shockwave carried on. It was one of the signature moves of his father, Valor. "Champion Thrust." In the background, robos lugged large water tanks as a masked school nurse arrived. They'd set water tanks down for both contestants to soak in and be healed by Brine's quirk when this round was over. Nocturne passed the man an exhuasted scowl, to which Brine would just shrug. "Jealous? My job is quite easy." He said as some of the gale sent his robots into a panic. Nocturne would fold his arms, "You don't have enough spine to be a teacher, nor do you have the patience to see the fruits of your labor." Neither staff member cared for the other. This possibly was the most they'd spoken to each other since Brine started. The dusk hero would turn back to the battle, and wait in the wings for either combatant to use a penalty or to stop the fight if things went to far. Brine on the other hand had absolutely no issues with sitting and waiting for his patients to come to him.

Shizo shivered as a wave of... something... washed over him. He didn't have enough live battle experience to immediately place it as battle lust. But survival instincts alone made his hair stand on end, for some reason though he felt... good. A smile slowly spread across his face, he planted his feet better, his heart beat faster. He felt ready for anything!
And then Ivan's attack came, blowing the dust cloud into his face. He raised his arms to shield his eyes and braced himself as the strongest winds he'd felt in ages buffeted him. It felt like he was in the middle of a typhoon, complete with debris blowing in his face. He slid back a bit, the soft dirt of the mound not providing the most secure footing, but he leaned forward into the wind so the force would start pushing him into the mound instead of over it.
Eventually the wind settled down, and Shizo could see the effects of the Champion Thrust in full... windows shattered, ground torn up, cars crumpled. It was unbelievable... if Ivan launched an attack like that at close range he was going to need a lot more than a visit to the school nurse. He looked down at his hands, seeing they had begun to shake. The scars on his arms felt like they were burning just at the thought of the pain he'd be in for if that hit him. His self-doubt flared, did he really have what it took to do this? A coward like him, afraid of getting hurt... afraid of even his own quirk? How was someone like him supposed to stand up to opponents throwing around attacks like that?
Then his mind flashed back to the night he'd fought his first villain. He'd been surrounded, overwhelmed by the villain's puppets, in pain, terrified. But he'd had someone to protect, in that moment he didn't give his fear a second thought. And he'd taken the villain down in the end, despite there being a much more powerful ally present. The memory bolstered him a bit... he was scared, but he didn't back down when it counted... and he wasn't going to back down now.
Slowly, the shaking subsided, and the smile spread back over his face. It was more crazed now, a mixture of determination and terror plastered across his face as his quirk flared to life. His body crackling with unrestrained electricity, growing stronger by the second as he finally started using his support gear properly and stopped holding himself back. The fear wasn't gone, he was sure that once the adrenaline faded from his system he'd be right back to that same pathetic cowardice as usual... but right now he was so fired up it wasn't going to stop him
"Damn senpai, that attack is something else. Nothing I've trained against even comes close." Shizo said, eyes glowing with power "right now though, I'm feeling Plus Ultra as hell! I wanna win, not for the class or points or anything else. I just want to be stronger, so even attacks like yours won't faze me anymore!"
Shizo thrust his arms forward, while he also radioed Nocturne "penalty, restrict his movements so he can't dodge properly" he said, then fired off three powerful bolts of lightning that arced to strike at Ivan from different angles, since Shizo wasn't closing his eyes this time, he could exert fine tuned control of them now too, making them turn in midair to follow Ivan and chase him down... but he was hoping Nocturne would slow Ivan down enough for him to land these hits and try to win legitimately... he hadn't tossed out his underhanded victory method entirely. But right this moment he wanted more than anything to rise to the challenge for his own sake for once.

"Yeah yeah, plus ultra or whatever. " He sneered. Nocturne's brow furrowed... -That stupid phrase. These people, they said it all the time.-The teen thought. Ivan hadn't been there long enough to know to meaning or even for it gift him with any feeling. At any rate it seemed like Shizo was finally taking the fight seriously. Ivan nodded. A welcomed challenge, though he need something to do about this incoming attack. On the other side, an assailant was speeding toward the third year before seeping into his shadow in an instant. A bokken would show itself gliding along the surface like a shark fin before striking the back of Ivan's knees. "Alright, then that's 20 points off. Ryuujin style: Iai fukuahire" Rather than actually slicing anything, it was a blunt strike with Nocturne skidding to a stop in front of Shizo, stooped low to avoid getting hit by a stray bolt.
"Northshore return." As Ivan fell to his knee, he too would feel the dark inky pool of Nocturne's super move. "Reequip." With a fast slight of hand, Ivan's right arm would whip in front of him, whilst his left dipped into his sash just in case. His armor would be released to the front to combat Shizo's attack as a lightning rod of sorts, as he'd choose to clad a leg to get out of this mess. To Nocturne's annoyance, his shadowy pit would be erased by a prominent light coming from his leg. "Shizo isn't the only one who can rip through your shadows, sensei. Radiant." Out of the three bolts, two struck pieces of his armor that he released, whilst the third pulled toward his leg.
Ivan stumbled back a bit, falling to a knee once more. His leg ached from under the armor. Nocturne's movements were decisive... annoyingly so. He took a few deep breaths before cladding his other leg, and standing up to fight once more.
"Mmm...I feel he's disrespected the school in a way. I'd like to show a demonstration of plus ultra if I may, Shizo." Nocturne said turning to the younger student. "This won't be at the cost of any points. I'll let you know when to continue."
"Fine by my, VALOR HEEL!" Ivan wasn't going to let Nocturne get away with treating him like a small fry. The teen would appear beside hero already spinning to unleash a powered up kick, his leg shimmering sliver in the process. It would be denied by a shadow coated chop. The ground quakes beneath the two as they collided. "Kotai... stealth scale. To go beyond a shadow, I had to push myself to create vantablack shadows for mismatches like these. " Shadow made scales would deny the kick and even withstand Ivan's shine. Rather than having an immediate counter or plan, Ivan was a bit stunned to notice his prior tactic didn't work again. What was so different between this time and just a few moments ago? Nocturne would clutch the leg and whip the boy away from the two with a toss. Ivan would tumble about before rolling to a stop. Ivan remained on the floor for a moment to catch his breath.
Nocturne, would quickly pull his handkerchief from his blazer to cover his mouth and nose. He didn't need the students to know the toll creating vantablack shadows took on his body. After quickly cleaning himself of his nose bleed, the teacher, would shove his hands in his pocket and await the next penalty call. As stoic as he remained, the arm the collided with Ivan's leg trembled in pain. As powerful as his vantablack shadow was, Nocturne simply couldn't compete with a super strength kick. While he looked like the loser of that exchange, Ivan officially earned Nocturnes respect.
The teacher would bark an order at Ivan before turning to Shizo- "Remember you came to assist your junior.'s learning, not take flex your muscles. Keep it educational like we discussed. Continue, Shizo..."
Shizo had a lot more to learn than Ivan. Ivan would reach his feet, and spit on the ground. "Heard you loud and clear, Sensei." In a way, that simple exchange seemed to calm Ivan down and get him to refocus. It was a bit obvious Ivan often got too into his own ego. Every once in a while a kid, just needed a reality check. Knowing Nocturne was stronger than himself, he wouldn't challenge the teacher's authority again.
"Well... weren't we fighting?" Ivan called out to Shizo. He'd slide back into a fighting stance, body a bit beaten up, bit his razor sharp focus realigned.
Current Totals: Ivan=60 Shizo=80
