It's been difficult trying to sleep, between the tension, excitement, a messed up circadian rhythm, and trying to rest one's body upside down in a moving vehicle.
The young boy had somehow managed to wedge himself in something ressembling confort, his left leg firmly holding the van's right handgrip while his right leg just swung over the backseat. The constant stops of the crowded New York traffic often had him ask the ever-question 'are we there yet', and it got to the point where he just gave up and continued trying to ignore everything. He had gotten good at that, at least, loudness has diminishing return, he pictured that the bustle of this city was about as loud to a person with a regular amount of fortune as a cozy afternoon was to him, so as long as his sleep mask was on and his name wasn't called, he would do just fine.
A tickling feeling interrupted his slumber, beckoning a wheezing snicker as Jason gently spasmed awake, his mother was quite diligent in finding a sweetspot in his ears where she could caress her son with comfort, and for once, the answer to the ever question was yes. The van jumped slightly as Jason sought to right himself up, pressing himself against the window, then quickly flinching away at the morning sun before readjusting his eyesight, it was a school alright. After barely 2 years of overindulging in his home(s), Jason had well realized that everyone that wished for an ever-summer wouldn't have lasted half of one. Media doesn't lasts you very long at twice the speed.
With a bit more rummaging, Jason prepared himself to open the door. They had at least managed to get him some gym shorts large enough to not shred instantly, though given all the chafing, he would love to do so himself. His mother also got him one of those large, dramatic cloaks used in boxing, if he folded his wings just right and put it on in the completely wrong way he could barely have it cover his upper body and shield his eyes slightly from the light of day. The arrangement was less to hide some malformity and more of a compromise to be as well dressed as possible in your first day at school, hopefully the dress code (if any) would accomodate him, they sure gave up on shoes.
Sitting at the edge of his seat, and the edge of possibility, Jason reached with his head to nuzzle his mother as she embraced him and the moment, her warmth, amplified by the beat of daylight, filling him with joy and resolve. The lad sprung gently out of the vehicle and made his awkward, slouched march to the institute, his tail swinging behind him and his ears twitching below his robes. Somehow, the most immediately curious aspect of the mutant boarding school was the boarding school part.

Today was a glorious day. Most days now were glorious days, this was true. Xavier School had been doing quite well for itself. Many wayward children finding themselves under their care. Whether they wanted to be X-Men (and especially when they did not) made no difference to the school's purpose. All that mattered was that they were here to help. It was why he was out here, on school grounds on this glorious day, to greet a new student. He had heard some about him, enough to know that he agreed that he was indeed the right teacher for the job. Little Jason needed to see that he would not be that out of place here. Bat boy would be in good hands.
Those hands were quick to welcome Jason and his family from afar. They were made of steel, though of a sort that distinctly set him apart from most "metal men" that seemed to frequent the world more and more in this era. The rest of the man's body was enveloped in that same steel, more like his own skin than any suit of armor or physical deformity. His human expressions could still be made out, as well as the colorful, sleeveless uniform that somehow managed to fit his massive frame. In but a few strides, Jason's first impression to this part of his life reached him. Despite Jason being very large himself, this man was larger still, such that he offered a literally ironclad handshake down to the boy.
"Welcome to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters! You are Jason, yes? I am Piotr Rasputin. It is good to meet you! I have heard many stories from your parents. You will love it here."

Jason was a slightly confused when looking at the offered hand, less due to its metallic sheen and more due to its size. He thought his parents were taller.
The bat slowly tilted his face up, but stopped to flinch midway as he blinded himself again, inching slightly to the left to stave off the reflection of the sun to get a better grasp at what was happening. He couldn't really widen his eyes, it hurt to do so in broad daylight, but he let out a toothy, raspy 'oooh' as he grasped at this not being some sort of high-technology servitor, but someone just like him. "Ah yes! Yes I am, it's also a-, a..., aaah", Jason struggled to get one of his wings out of his makeshift uniform without just having it blow off into the wind, eventually poking out a large, scaled finger to greet him with. "It's a pleasure as well, mister!", Jason added, his scratchy voice mismatching his enthusiasm. He still really couldn't tell how old the person interacting him was until he sat down in the shade. "Oh, have you? I-I didn't know they were looking into this for any long. It felt like a...", Jason paused to squeeze his right wing back in place, "Spur of the moment kind of thing. Mom is so cool...", Jason looked down and finished the train of thought to himself. In reality, it was his father that did most of the legwork related to enrolling him at Xavier's. Whether it was out of wellwishes to his son or to finally be rid of a burden is something that didn't even cross his mind.

Piotr beamed at the boy. Jason had spirit, that much was clear. It was not common for new students to have such optimism. Piotr hoped that that would not change once he had gotten settled in. Whatever Jason's home situation had been like before, Xavier's took some getting used to for everyone. He gestured at the uniform Jason was wearing. It was endearing.. to Piotr, at least. Some of the students had begun to stare, and not only on account of Jason's appearance. "Did you make this? It is quite, err, sporting."

"Yes! Actually! Joint effort, kinda", Jason spoke very highly about his garmnets, despite essentially being straightjacketed into them. The folded posture was, after all, quite natural to him. "I didn't get much sleep last night so Mom fetched it for me on her own this morning. Lovely colors, she knows me quite well", he gushed, being unironically quite delighted in his halloween black-and-orange getup, it wasn't just due to the off-season discount. "They must like it too, right?", Jason blurted, tilting his head to his left towards some of the gawking students, perhaps they weren't talking about him at the moment, but he became very adept at noticing his surroundings grind towards silence, which was fortunate, perhaps he would have some use for such skill. "Hey, so what have mum and dad told you?", Jason inched forward past Piotr, as if itching to follow him in. It was surely a familiar dichotomy, the unconditional love of a mother, undeterred by deteriorated hearing, lacerations, and a lot of broken furniture, and the distant woes of an adoptive father, whose respect remains unearned despite preventing break-ins and other forms of skulduggery.

Piotr put on a smile, most of it genuine. Yes, what they said was making more and more sense, now that he was speaking with Jason. He patted the back of his ironclad flat top, giving a stare to the onlookers. They promptly gawked elsewhere. "That you are quite the rascal. You get up to all kinds of activities." Piotr began walking again. His gait was slower than Jason's, but on account of his stature, it was enough to keep up with the boy. He stopped before the front door of the school. He pointed his right index finger skyward and winked at Jason. "But you always meant well. That, more than anything, mal'chik."The steel giant pushes the doors inward. They creak and groan, giving way to the mansion interior. Here, the students are much more lively, hustling around, if not to their next class, then surely to some adolescent chicanery that had yet to take hold. If it had not already, it would quickly become apparent just how many heteromorphic mutants were attending this school, some of them more extreme than Jason. One of the first people that they passed by was a massive student who was nothing but a wiry skeleton enveloped in a thick, rubbery pink substance. His eye stalks, still attached inside his skull, were connected to very human eyeballs that rested on the surface. "Oh, hey there." His voice intoned dully, evident from how the skull's mouth was moving to form words from within the pink shell. "Not now, Robert. We must get Jason to-"Robert's interrupted with an angry gurgling noise. "Glob! I told you, Mister Rasputin, it's Glob now!""Yes, yes, my mistake..." Piotr made a firm scooting gesture against Jason's back, hoping that he would keep moving.

"W-hwell. It's more like I never meant ill", Jason corrected Piotr, while his intentions were harmless, they were selfish altogether. "I-Is there something up there? I can't really-", he tried to figure out what was up with the sky, did he miss the school slogan or somesuch? The door only creaked open and his whole body tilted in anticipation, scanning the bustle inside long before he could see it, confusing, intriguing, shapes that shouldn't, and he took them in as if breathing in fresh air. At first, he glossed over the outwardly 'normal' humans, but after a double take he realized they would also be like him, there were even more surprises to be had! so many things to talk about! In person!
"Hi!-", was Jason's snap response to being greeted, before even turning around and abruptly stopping to greet, uh, he heard a Robert, he thought, he was too entranced with this see-through fellow and why not every organ was there. Piotr might see the bat rustling inside of his robes, it appears that were he not restrained by his lack of accesorisation, he might have just reached out to poke this person. "Uh, sure, bye Glob!", Jason said raspily, his back leaning down as he marched on.

Piotr did not linger on that interaction long. It was better not to make anything of it. He was inwardly thankful that Jason did not seem to make anything of it, either. Such an earnest youth...
Also gratefully, the two of them did not have any other chance encounters on their way to Piotr's office. This took them upstairs, and while Jason well could have tried to take flight, Piotr would have made sure that he remained earthbound while indoors. It was a rule that was difficult to enforce, but the alternative was a headache that the faculty had learned many times in the past. Many, many times.
Upon reaching his office door - a wide, robust thing, which looked to have been reinforced many times with many different things, none of which had seemed to last for long - Piotr paused, then looked down at the new student. "Your things will be waiting in your room. We will go there next. But first, I would like to have a little chat."
Piotr stood to the side of the door, then pressed his arm overhead to move the door ajar for Jason to enter first. As far as teachers' offices went, it did not look too different from ones Jason had been in before, albeit with the style of the rustic mansion that they were in. This place was old, old in a way that most schools these days could not even pretend to possess. While there was a traditional "student chair opposite the teacher sitting behind a desk" setup, the aforementioned chair had been set aside, irrelevant for the kinds of students whose figure did not conform to such things.
Piotr waited for Jason to finish filing in before coming in himself, and closing the door behind him. He lowered himself into his office chair carefully. Like the rest of the room, it didn't appear that different from ordinary furniture, though it managed to hold his weight all the same. He waited for Jason to become comfortable however he liked before he continued.
"It has not been long, but how do you feel about the school so far? First impressions?"

Piotr wouldn't have any difficulties herding Jason in through the stairs, his parents (his father (through his mother)) had instructed him to not even put his large wings onto the brittle stairs of his house. He would see the bat walk up the stairs with the straightest posture he had seen of him so far, although his tail took up a lot of horizontal space to compensate.
The six-times reinforced door was already quite nostalgic, perhaps he wouldn't go through as many in his new room. Jason scuttled in quiet expediently, taking in the vintage surroundings, the anachronism feeling quite wonderous to the kid so entranced in fiction. "Uh, can I take this off?", Jason turned around briefly and rustled inside his jacket, despite having just seen a student with less clothing and more 'need' to conceal itself, he still had to figure out if there was some school clearance to do so beforehand. Once he was given the go-ahead, the bat fidgetted about for a bit before spreading his right wing, expediently removing the jacket that now rested at the tip of one of his long fingers. It would've been quite a dramatic reveal had he opted not to raise his left wing to shield his face in an earnest attempt to conceal a ripping yawn, a yawn that could not be heard, but rather felt. In all this exhausted trembling, the jacket fell off of its daintly perch, prompting the bat to hurry to it and reach with it with the fold of his wing. Despite not having the same thumb digit that bats use to climb, he picked it up quite cleanly, his unusual scales folding and clenching to hold the drape tight. He hung it carefully from the dejected student chair for the time being.
Jason sat down on his rump, quite far from the table to account for it. The forearms of his wings were on top of his knees and they were spread wide across the floor, taking all the horizontal space that he was given, he looked comfortable, but in only exactly one way. "Well, it looks very large and classy and full of cool people. Not sure how I never heard of it", he specified, an odd admission to make. "How is it still standing? Well, besides with hard work", the kid tilted his head back as to glance at the patchwork door. Given the amount of things that presumably go through these doors, it is impressive to him that the place looks so preserved.

Piotr nodded gently to Jason's request. In truth, he could have taken it off at any time, but he had not wanted to press the boy. Getting him to feel comfortable in this new space mattered most for his first day here. It also wasn't quite as much of an issue for James as it was for heteromorphic mutants.
He offered a smile, standing by his surprisingly ordinary desk. "The Professor has dedicated his life to this place. All of us have. That is money, grit, stubbornness." Piotr grinned proudly at the last one. "Rest assured, Jason, Xavier school is built to survive mutants like you and I."
At that, Piotr kneeled to eye-level with his desk. He pulled out one of the larger drawers, reaching for something. Once he stood up again, Piotr was holding a larger version of the school gym uniform (which happened to mirror the design of the X-Men uniforms). Even from a glance, it was clear that this one in particular had parts that were made with someone like Jason in mind, such as the additional stitches providing for wings and an inhumanly sized body. Piotr stepped forward, offering the clothing to Jason.
"Here. This should fare better than fragile cotton."

"Oh sure, I hope, I mean, I got it!", Jason's ears perked up, his tone shifting around as he considered being able to not worry about shattering windows by being excited. He leaned in from his seated stance to catch a glimpse of his new clothes, they were...a bit bright, it was fine, uniforms were never made to be liked, hopefully this one wasn't uncomfortable as his previous ones. "Well, alright, I uh...", Jason tilted his head backwards and listened the room, there wasn't much room here, was there. He hadn't felt weird about having no clothing around his parents, though it's been so long he'd have to consider a stranger regarding them at all that he had second thoughts. "Give me a second". Jason stood up and took the uniform and scampered to the furthest corner of the room, facing the wall, his long tail swaying left and right as he looked at the odds and ends. For a second, he stood with both legs clenched without explaining much for a couple of seconds, the scales along his waist and tail seemed to ripple, he sounded frustrated about something. "OK you have more of these, right? Just in-, ah forget it", he mentioned, and a shredding noise could be heard as the flimsy shorts he wore to school were shredded from the inside, falling to tatters. Removing them was too much of a chore if he was to never use them again.
It took a few seconds to figure out how to get in these things, it didn't look big enough at all, but his talons somehow seamlessly went through the pants without snagging or tearing them, and the jacket had just enough of a sleeve to figure out top to bottom, but it did not impede his grip. It was so easy to get into them that he feared it would be all wrinkled and loose once he finished, but as he carefully zipped it back up there was no such a hindrance. Piotr would see the boy stressing every inch of his new clothes, leaning on one leg, extending one wing, even parts of his back seemed to surge as the scales pressed harmlessly against its interior, it was almost ticklish. Piotr could hear the bat gush, or rather, he could guess that's what it was, from whatever glimpses he could see from his face in all this movement, he seemed to be ushering words, but all that could be hear was a thorough, acute squeak. Jason was hopping in place now, perhaps it was best to request his attention at this point. Sure, Piotr's office could resist him, but there were still things to be done and he looked about ready to try a backflip.

Piotr had nothing to fear from Jason. He knew that the uniform would fit him, and that there was no chance of the boy damaging it either. The X-Men uniforms were cut from a particular cloth, so to speak. Piotr wasn't familiar with it himself; only enough to know that students like Jason were the last thing that material had to worry about. The only concern was the lad's attention span, it seemed. Piotr would need to remember that.
He firmly clapped his hands twice, the din of his hands ringing through Jason's sounds. He smiled at him as a teacher, hoping to hold his attention, if only for a moment. "Xavier school can handle Jason, yes?" He gestured at the uniform, how well it reacted to Jason's testing motions. "With comfort too, I hope. Nothing out of place?"

Oh no what was that, did he actually break something.
Jason came to a halt and folded as tight as he could, with even his tail cramping between his legs, oh hold up a second, he was doing something more important right now. "-es it can, it can, sure", Jason hurried back towards the desk, elbows clenched and wings forward. "I thought it would feel weird because it wasn't pliable enough but it pushes back in just the right way and-aaaaah", the bat suddenly relaxed their shoulders, apparently managing to scratch a sorespot by feedback alone. "I could fall asleep on this. I wish I could fall asleep. I am awake, right? We did get here", Jason doubted for a second, raising the tip of one of his wings towards his ear and probing for something, seemingly trying to pinch himself through his rough skin.

Piotr smiled and placed a heavy hand on Jason’s head. He rubbed it fondly, which would have given most of the people here a migraine. For this one, it was enough or him to feel the forceful comfort behind the gesture. ”Da, you are awake. It is not dream.”
Piotr made for the door, waiting for Jason to go first before waiting to close his meticulously secured office space. ”Come. It is time you met your bunkmate, and your room. And before you ask: you will like it. Colossus guarantee! I made sure of it.” Piotr beamed at that. The last time he had tried to fix something… well, Katja continued to make sure that it was not forgotten. There would be some walking before they reached the dorms. He imagined Jason had more questions… though perhaps he didn’t. He was taking to the school more quickly than Piotr expected. Some mutants took well to their new life here.

Cool, and also ow.
Jason's ears folded down to each side before Piotr's hand did that for him. It felt odd, but not...well it did feel unpleasant but in a tangible way and not in a stranger danger way, at the very least it cleared his suspicions that he was making all of this up. The boy stood still while Piotr paced around him, mostly to continue to get a feel for his tail, before the door opened and he heard the professor gesture for him to go on first. Jason chirped in a bit of surprise and quickly complied, his gait now much more confident now that he wasn't flimsily tied up. Jason listened in into the many locking mechanisms of the door, an earful for sure, he could barely hear the room inside. His ears turned back to Piotr to hear he would be sharing his room with someone, which made the boy shiver for a second, visible plainly through his scales. "Oh, uh, alright! I'll take care, yes", Jason mumbled, as if he was entrusted with a valuable china. He had no doubt he would like it, so at first, he walked along without much of a word, mostly taking in the breadth of the mansion, though he paced back in his thoughts for a moment glanced back at Piotr.
"Uh, who's Colossus?", Jason turned his head around and finally asked. "I mean, I have a guess, but there could be someone even larger", he added. This curious 'Glob' fellow was formerly named Robert, was that a thing? Would he be given some sort of cool title as a sort of hazing excercise? The bat seemed to lean down and make an acute squeal in giddy of the idea.
