"Strange. Doctor Strange."
Strange gave him a smile, glanced around, and leant in closer as they moved as far from the puppets as they could.
"Listen close. There'll be a tent on the east side of the parade. Hopefully, anyway. If you want to return home - your real home, instead of this... stale version, then that's where you need to be. Gather as many of the... the people from the other New York. Get them all in there."
Strange took a deep breath. It had been a busy day.
"I'll try and sort whatever happened here. To get you all back to your families, friends, home. Sound good?"

The man narrowed his eyes for a moment before opening them wide, "Oh you're-!", he stepped away and bit his tongue for a moment, the crowd seemed undisturbed. "A professional in your field, for sure", he tried to straighten his voice. "Alright, doc, I'll...let the apointees know", he went off without a word. Surely he could convince whatever New Yorkers he happened upon to his plan, and they could propagate it the same way, it would be a matter of figuring out if this was truly all of them.

Strange tugged at his goatee as he watched the man leave. There was uncertainty in his mind, but there didn't seem to be a better plan. If there was collateral... it just meant he had to be certain. One person who went for a toilet break at the wrong time, and he'd have lost. It simply had to be a full victory.
He made his way through the crowd of blanks, looking for another. If two of them were spreading the word... then, he'd return to Jamie, and set the final ball rolling. Then, finally, I can get out of this stale version of New York...

Strolling through the parade, Strange would find another real person, a woman in her late 50s wearing a business suit, relaxing quite broadly on a bench that should probably not be there, probably glad to take a break from this impromptu parade, surely a person that would understand working under crunch. As Strange approached, however, he could also see a second one, a younger soul, approaching the crowded line, though seemingly not interested at all in the parade. "Is there something you need help with?", the woman would address Strange first, seemingly understanding the anomaly of being approached at all.
Should Strange continue to watch the young urchin, he would see them helping themselves to a puppet's wallet.

Strange swiftly told her the same thing he had told the other real inhabitant of this place. Yet he was distracted by the orphan. His natural curiosity overtook his urgency, and he smiled at the woman as he finished.
"Just make sure you're at the tent with as many... real people as you can. Excuse me..."
He trailed off, moving past her and following the urchin. Strange knew he had a time limit. How many other people had Jamie brought in with him? If there were more like this boy...
"Hey, kid," he said, loud over the din of the parade. Please don't run... I'm not sure I've got the time for a chase.

The woman seemed quite agreeable to the idea, and while she stood up with a dejected groan, her step was steady as she made it across.
The kid didn't notice Strange, or if they did, they feigned ignorance. Clearly they did, as they didn't exactly run but also moved somewhat hastily away from him. Catching up unconspicuously would be difficult for the first time in his stay in faux New York, the crowd wasn't willingly impeding him, but it was also not making way as it had up until now, it would bring reminiscence of trying to trudge through a subway. He'd catch up to the boy to a familiar hotdog stand, holding a hotdog and a balloon, and thanking the faceless gentlemen for not charging him despite showing him the money.
The red hellium balloon tilted to face Strange to reveal its design, the familiar, bronze face of the colossus of New York stared down at him.

You're not real.
Strange held this thought as he saw the balloons visage. Thoughts and feelings held sway in this world, mostly Jamie's, but he was sure he could too. So... he concentrated on ignoring the face. Instead he placed a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"Hey. Could I speak with you, kid?"
Strange was not good at children. He tried to smile warmly, but it could have come across as a grimace all the same. He expertly ignored the balloon face. You're... not... actually a balloon right now. You don't exist here like that...

The kid flinched and stammered to try and find an excuse, but turned around to actually look at Strange, it appeared as if everyone was looking at Strange now at least, somehow it was more interesting than the parade. "Do I know you sir?", he asked, must be around 10, his clothes were of decent make, but had seen better days. "Like, are you on TV?", he continued trying to recognize him, with Strange having the sun behind his back, it was difficult to tell, though an attentive mind would wonder why would such a thing happen at midday.
Strange was making a conscious effort of not looking up, but the visage of Liberty was still there.

Strange noted that the crowd had stopped, and now stared his way. He straightened up, looking directly at the balloon, maintaining eye contact for a few seconds before he looked back at the kid.
"Sure... I'm Doctor Strange. I'm organising a party, a special parade event. Follow the ones you recognise."
Strange felt an unravelling, threads slowly pulling apart. He stared at the balloon again, then smiled before he turned and walked away.
He didn't go to the tent. Not yet, it was too soon. Instead, he found Jamie again, navigating through the streets of blank faces.
"Enjoying the parade? The floats should be coming through soon, right?"

The balloon wasn't doing much more than conveniently tilt in his direction, somehow, its contempt was still palpable
"Follow the...huh?", the boy was rather confused by the mystifying exchange and watched the wizard depart. Despite the standowder doing his best attempt to keep him around, the boy did as told and followed Strange, the one person he was confident he recognized, balloon and all.
Jamie was hard to miss, even though they were in the middle of a celebration, he was more interested in chatting about work with some of his coleagues, one had to guess, given the heartiness through which they exchanged words, interrupted by the odd unpronounceable name that took over the conversation for a hot second, though it seemed to not bother the frazzled engineer. "Ah?", Jamie held his shock after turning around to find Strange still here, then shrugged it off, nothing was out of place. "I guess, am not keeping score. Anyways, Marko, Vikram, this is Stephen Strange, bigwig surgeon and all that", Jamie introduced the two puppets next to him with real names, both which gave a token greeting. He waved out at some really bad joke while he approached him dismissively, "Please don't tell me you need me for more mumbo jumbo, doc", he breathed out through his teeth, despite his spectacles covering his eyes (if there were any), it was evident that he was looking down on the wizard.

Strange smiled at Jamie. He had grown very skilled at forcing smiles. The strange man before him had become to irk him immensely.. but he reminded himself to go above it. He had spent years dealing with annoying doctors, surgeons, patients and bosses. Hell, Strange himself had been like Jamie, years before.
"Of course not. It's a parade, I'm not about to interrupt anything. Oh, listen. I won tickets in a lottery down the street. It's some kind of special event. Look, there's one for you."
Strange glanced back at the kid, and winked, producing three tickets from his fingers.
"This kid won, too. I was helping him find it. I'm sure we can catch up with Marko and Vikram after."
He nodded at the two blanks, keeping a straight, steady face. Not much further to go... he just needed to slot a few more things into place, and this nightmare would be over.

Jamie (presumably) glanced at the piece of paper, then back at Strange (also presumably), "Mumbo Jumbo it is", he suspected the wizard's gambit, but decided to play along, Snake could swear he could see the man's electronic hair shake and snarl at him as if they were snakes. He took the lead, seemingly knowing where to go. The boy was a bit hesitant to follow, beckoning Strange to draw closer and whisper to him if Jamie was some sort of bad guy.

Strange forced a smile. He walked with the boy, making sure that he was on the opposite side to Jamie. The white-skinned man obviously was aware now, so he had a few moments, no more. The tent was ahead... Strange hoped to all the gods of the multiverse that this would work. That all the humans from his reality had assembled.
He opened the flap, allowing the boy in first, and stepped through to view the crowd.
"Okay... everyone here? Ready for the show?"
Strange turned to Jamie. Several things happened at once.
From his sleeves, lengths of cloth wrap appeared and leapt towards Jamie, aiming to bind the man. Strange's other hand swung in a circle, and sparks opened the air before the group. On the other side was the skyline, the vanishing edge of New York. Before them, the white portal that Strange had come through waited patiently.
"Go! Beyond that portal, you'll find yourselves on a building. Make your way down to ground level and help will be waiting! There's no time to hesitate!"
Strange's attention turned to Jamie. This time, he wouldn't make the same mistakes. The giant liberty statue would be sure to intervene, but if he could keep both of their attention on him... he would have a chance to save these people.

The tent was most crowded, it was also very large, larger than what he would have expected. Perhaps it grew bigger as an unreasonable amount of people wished to visit it at once. That being said, it was also densely packed with the pale marionettes, it wasn't a good sign.
It was difficult to count the amount of real people in the tent, there were likely just about over 70, which did breach Liberty's vague estimate. They were also mostly in a corner, with ample space to move as convenience, as they all awaited Strange's finale. "What, are you a stage wizard or someth-AAAAGH", the festive ambiance suddenly stopped as Jamie was suddenly surrounded by a group of golems that aimed to be ensnared instead, becoming larger and larger as Strange's spell did its work. Collectively they held their ground, but Jamie was pinned altogether in the mass of gray bystanders. "I thought we were DONE with that!", Jamie lashed out. The havok of the scene didn't take long to make the real New Yorkers get the hint and run towards the portal, as fragile as can be. The tent's ceiling started to become undone and turned into more faceless citizens, every single body on the floor attempting to swarm Strange and restrain his arms and legs, even defying the laws of gravity to do so.
"Flee, Castaways! Flee From This Land Of The Free! You Are No Longer Welcome!", the voice echoed through the scenery, the bronze titan's face peeked from the open rooftop. Strange wanted Liberty's undivided attention, and he had it, for better and for worse. "I Will Spare Both Of Our Homes From This Adversary Of Peace!". The underside of the tend changed from festive red to a metallic green, the colossus' grip would seek to smother Strange in its wave of blurred flesh once and for all.

"No. I'm done with you."
Strange grimaced as he bound the mass of writhing blanks together around Jamie, more appearing and swarming as the world turned into them. The colossus had spoken, had released its hold on the others... but Strange knew it wouldn't quite be as easy as that. Not for him, at least.
He swept a hand down, cutting through the bindings to leave a tight ball of mass, with Jamie in the centre. He wanted to grab the man as well, bring him back, but the ultimate safety of the New Yorkers was what he needed. Blanks came for him, grabbing at his arms, legs, body. Strange grunted, lifting a free hand upwards.
The air seemed to ripple, then darken. Water began to swirl, transmutation from the surroundings, a sudden fierce current to sweep the blanks away. Strange then pushed upwards, his cape taking him directly upwards, out of reach of the hand.
Strange kept an eye on the New Yorkers, but his attention was directed at the Statue. He gave a rueful smile. Once the real people were safe, he would follow. Until then...
"Let's go then, Lady Liberty. Just you and me!"
He lashed out with his hands. Golden, sparking discs spun outwards, razor-sharp spinning weapons that Strange threw at his opponent. He was already preparing the next spell, crafting sigils in the air around him. Strange would do this the right way. Not his way. Not Jamie's way. The way that saved the most lives.
