1.) No power playing. Please don't make your character all powerful, or make them never get hit. You need to remember a tiny bit of fair realism. It's not fair or fun to play that way.


2.) No god modding. The playing of other people's characters (or deciding what happens to them before they have a say) removes their agency from their experience. Please respect your fellow players’ contributions and make sure you have their permission before doing something drastic.

There are many types of power playing and godmodding. Here are some examples:
Controlling other people's characters in posts. (Technically even saying whether an attack hits them and how it hits them is power playing, so make sure you communicate with your fellow players)
Omniscient Characters. You may know everything that goes on with the board but your character doesn't! Keep this in mind! This goes right down to knowing another character's name without having prior knowledge of them. Your character doesn't know everything you know, they only know what they were there to see or have been told.
Indestructible Characters. Your character shouldn’t be able to get into a fight with another player’s character without getting hit at all. Even if your character may be capable of such things, it’s no fun if you keep no-selling other players’ actions. Most characters are not invincible, they can get hurt one way or another. When in peril, most likely being hunted by another character, an escape route magically appears out of nowhere and you escape easily. This may be fine for certain situations, but not all the time! If your character gets into trouble, there should be consequences for that.


3.) Be balanced with your characters. If you're making an original character, or even if you're applying for a canon character, please try not to push the envelope with their powers and abilities. Some mutants aren’t that amazing or strong, most metahumans have weaknesses of some kind, technology can be flawed, and so on. Heroic Genesis is focused on stories and character exploration, not winning fights or being the coolest person in the room.


4.) This roleplay has a set character limit. You may only have up to twelve characters, with a maximum of six canons out of that twelve. You could have six canons and six originals or twelve originals or one canon and eleven originals, etc. If your character dies or if you choose to void them, you can make a new one, but please don’t abuse this. We'll put our foot down if people constantly switch out their character slots.


5. Players will be allowed to post with one of their characters in progress. This rule is in place to allow players to start posting when their inspiration is at its peak. Profiles are still subject to review and approval by mods. It is our hope that this will help people launch new opportunities or join in existing stories and areas of activity. If we run into any issues, they will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Attempts to abuse this system will be punished.


6.) Prolonged character inactivity from players may void their status. This roleplay is a large and sprawling world. As a result, many stories are often playing out throughout the roleplay. Fluctuations in activity is understandable. Everyone gets busy with the real world from time to time, especially during the holidays. However, the sudden absence of two or even one player's canon characters can grind stories to a halt. Warnings will be given at first, but repeat offenses without due explanation will result in penalties. Players may lose privileges to canon characters if they do nothing with their characters. If you are going to be inactive for an extended period of time, please let the mods know so that we can accommodate your characters accordingly.


7.) There are no permanent locations other than the location forums. They are the frames of the setting of Heroic Genesis established by the mod team. Inside of these subforums you can make and join roleplay threads to your heart’s desire. However, please label your threads accordingly. For instance, creating a thread taking place at the Daily Bugle in the New York City subforum would go like this: “[The Daily Bugle] Get Me Pictures!” Please post your threads in the most specific location subforum possible. If a location subforum is turning out to be too broad, the mod team will consider making more specific branches to accommodate the focused activity.


8.) Roleplaying must be done in story form. Post as if you are writing a story, not a script. Use full sentences, correct grammar and spelling to the full extent possible. Don't be afraid to use Spellcheck if you have to. There isn’t a mandate for a maximum or minimum limits on post-size, but please try to avoid the extremities. Players don't want to reply to posts that are too short or too long. More than anything, communication with your fellow roleplayers (and your mods!) is a priority in Heroic Genesis.


9.) More rules may be added to this list. Heroic Genesis is a world that is constantly evolving. The mods reserve the right to add additional rules (or revise old ones) to accommodate for new circumstances.
