Tsukiko smiled and nodded at Lucille as she mulled over the question, eventually arriving at the right answer. This was a question that as a keyblade wielder she already knew the answer to innately, plus she had plenty of magical training as is. Eda would be able to teach her more advanced stuff, but they needed to get Lucille up to speed at least a bit before they dove into anything deeper.
"That's right, it's about your heart. Right now you're borrowing Cal's magic, lots of humans start off like that, borrowing from an external source. I was the same with my keyblades. But a source of power or not, in the end magic comes down to your heart powering it, and your mind giving it shape..." she said, then stopped herself as she realized she was slipping into a teacher mode herself just there, she supposed she did feel a bit of kinship with Lucille though, and wanted to help her along... still it wouldn't do to usurp Eda too much.

Eda nodded at both of their answers. "Well actually, yeah it DOES come from the heart. Technicallyyyyyy..." she mused, reaching into her hair and withdrawing a scroll she unfurled before them depicting a rather graphic anatomic of a heart with a bean-shaped sac attached to it. "I mean really, all witches here are born with a magic bile sac attached to their hearts and boom, we can do magic; simple as that."She furled it up again in her grasp then held up an index finger, speaking as-a-matter-of-factly "Buuuut everyone has this other Heart that is a representation of all the important stuff...ya know...emotions, drives...not to mention both light and dark but the important part about that is the emotion and drive part. Not to say that light and darkness aren't; they just aren't integral to learning magic." She shrugs. "Unfortunately, lotta folk, especially humans, can't do magic under normal circumstances. " She gestures to Tsukiko. "Some are chosen by the keyblade and trained how to use it and magic comes with that whole kit-n-kaboodle." She gestured with the other hand to Lucille. "And some..." she looked to Calaguru who happily rolled on its back. "...have unique circumstances like yours and makes you a sorta...uhhhh..." she rolls her hands as her mouth tries to find the words, seething with uncertainty "...facsimile of a keyblade wielder just minus the whole destiny spiel, keyblade, and yadda yadda yadda..."King squirmed restlessly in Tsukiko's grasp then locked eyes with Cal who started back. "Wwwwwweh!" he chirped to Cal who yipped/mewed back with a wiggle of its body. King's tail swished behind him. "Play!" he requested, pointing to Cal who pawed at the couch nearest Tsukiko.

Lucille listens intently to Tsukiko's explanation. She smiles as their statement implies she won't need to rely on Cal to use magic forever. That's exciting to know. Perhaps she'll learn a few spells that'll be handy for noncombat things when she settles down. Maybe telekinesis? Being able to just float things around sounds really cool. No more having to get up to grab the remote, eh?
Eda then pipes in with her own sort-of explanation, and Lucille winces a little at the very... Detailed image of the bile sac. That doesn't quite seem anatomically possible unless their hearts are on the right side of their chest... But maybe she shouldn't ask questions she doesn't want answers to.
Then the rambunctious furball in Tsukiko's arms grabs the attention of Cal, inciting a giggle from Lucille. "Hehe, you can go play if you want, Cal. I'll let you know when I need your help," She says. With how long Cal had been alone she felt letting Cal have some fun for once would be a good thing. She then glances back to Eda. "So while knowing magic comes from the heart and your will is all well and good, I'm still not quite sure how to put that theory into practice. Since magic is completely new to me I don't really have the, uhhh, instincts I guess? To use it innately,"

As Cal came over to play with King, Tsukiko would reluctantly allow the cuteness bundle to leave her arms, looking at them as they played with each other with a smile. Gosh they were adorable
"That takes time to get the hang of, I guess you come from a world where magic was rare. Not like here where apparently they have a dedicated organ for it... and my world where it was kinda just a thing people knew about, even if not everyone had the knack for it" Tsukiko said, looking at the diagram, then to Eda... where did that huge sack fit? Were the lungs smaller or something? It didn't look like there'd be room... biology was weird. "there's some training exercises I went through to develop mine before I could learn to cast any real spells. I trained it a lot like any muscle... nowadays it just feels as natural to me as breathing, not sure how it'll work for you exactly since you're starting off using Cal's... but I think with some more training you should be able to learn some basics as your own magic grows a bit".

"In my experience..." Eda started, watching King mount Cal who took off like an over-sized bean straight into the front door which made the house demon hoot in surprise. That then cause him to open the door, extend its body and give chase playfully alongside the other two. Eda almost lost her train of thought when she saw all of this take place. She cleared her throat. "In my experience, magic just is. Nothing fancy about it. The less complicated ya make it, the easier it is...I think." she said with a thumb and index finger on her chin. "All I got do is..."
She held up her right index finger lazily then traced a circle before her that formed a glowing yellow trail in its wake that, once connected, burst into a dazzling display of light.
"And that's just a simple light spell. Sometimes magic's just...about what feels right to you, ya know?" she folded her arms grumpily and looked away. "Don't let anyone tell ya otherwise. Not even that pipsqueak Shantotto." she smirked to herself. "That might even earn you some points with her now that I think about it."
She paused and wondered just how good of an explanation that was for someone who didn't quite get it all yet. Was that just how she really saw magic as? Wild. Simple. Free. No one to tell her how it should be used and what kind it had to be. If only she had that growing up then maybe...
Maybe things could have been different and she would have this...
Bah. Eda, you're thinking too much! Get outta your head for a bit! You have King and now you have two people in here who think what you have is worth something! Get it together!
"...any questions so far?"

Lucille listens to Tsukiko and Eda's explanations trying her best to understand what they're getting at. Simplifying it could work... Maybe. She supposed much like learning to wield a sword she just needs to start off making a few sparks before she can reliably do REAL spells. But even then she looked down at her hands. Could she even do that though?
"Honestly I'm... Still not really sure where to start. Tsukiko mentioned training exercises, maybe the familiarity would help me bridge that gap?" She inquires.

Tsukiko watched King and Cal play for a bit, but refocused as Eda spoke, it seemed that for today, they were both teaching Lucille. An orb of light like that wasn't going to be a useful new spell for her own journey, but it couldn't be helped. Such was the challenge of having classes with students of differing levels
"Well, perhaps. I'm not sure how qualified I am to walk someone else through those exercises, I was doing them as a little kid so I don't remember them that well..." Tsukiko mused "I do have one idea though, it'll work best since Cal is further away from you while the cuties are all playing. Pardon the intrusion on your personal space but"
Tsukiko would suddenly get up and walk over to Lucille, taking each of her hands in one of her own and interlocking their fingers, then resting her forehead against Lucille's. If this had been some kind of romance novel it would've been a very flustering pose, but the closeness was needed.
"I want you to close your eyes for me, I'm going to pour some of my mana into you. It'll naturally flow through your body to your heart, where your own magic resides. I want you to focus on the feeling, how it flows, where it's going. Try to make the connection yourself from there. I might not be able to teach you a textbook lesson of how this works but it's all about feeling. If this works, it should be a little easier to teach you from there... now then, on three... one... two..."
Tsukiko closed her eyes, and was enveloped in a soft blue glow "three" she said as the glow would flow through her points of contact into Lucille. She had no idea if this would work, but she vaguely recalled her mentor doing this for her, way back when. If they could get Lucille to at least be able to feel her magic, Eda could definitely start teaching her some minor spells... probably... hopefully.

Eda was going to follow up with one of her patented "spicy tosses" but relented as Tsukiko seemed to have something in mind. It made less work for her so she took her time and leaned up against the wall to see how this girl did things. Magic existed in all corners of every world to some degree and it was a treat to see a new kind put into practice. She watched with alert eyes to take notes herself. "Alright, kid. You do you. I'll step in if I feel ya need it."As Cal, King, and Hooty went outdoors, Lucille would definitely feel a difference and now was the perfect time for Tsukiko to put her teachings into practice. As they did, there'd be a slight disturbance outside. Like a storm was approaching but nothing like anything the Boiling Isles had seen before. The phenomena was slowly but surely growing but for now, it remained mostly unnoticed. Hooty would stop in place and looked up towards it momentarily before going back to playing. As Eda watched, she recalled a distant memory that gave her pause. It was only brief but the words rang clear in her head. "With this spell declared, let the pain be shared."

As Tsukiko warns her Lucille is briefly confused, but then blinks in surprise. Oh, that's what she meant. She kind of sits there awkwardly as Tsukiko gets into her personal space but tries her best to roll with it.
"O...Kay, I'll try my best," She says as she closes her eyes and tries to focus. Shortly after she would yelp in surprise as Tsukiko's magic permeates through her body at the points of contact. The sensation was completely foreign, and yet it was also enlightening. She couldn't properly describe how it feels, it was like... Like a blind person seeing for the first time, unlocking a sense she didn't know she had. Using Cal's magic felt more like pressing a button and watching something happen on a screen, there was a disconnect, whereas this... This was real.
She mutters something in French, before opening her eyes. "So this is magic? It's... Well, it's about as whimsical as I expected it to be," She says with no small amount of awe in her voice. Her whole body felt tingly.

"So I take it you've got more of a sense for it now?" Tsukiko said as she pulled away "while my mana is still in you making it easier, why not try to cast something? Eda's demonstration would be a good starting point. A light spell, you should have more than enough magic in you after that to cast one. As for how... uh.. Eda might be able to describe it better?"
Tsukiko glanced over to Eda, not really sure what to say, she was adept in magic, but she wasn't much of a teacher in her opinion. Seemed Eda might feel the same, but between them Eda had more experience. Hopefully she could shed some insight to get Lucille to cast her first spell.

Eda took a sip from her mug as they did their thing. She tried hard not to think about what it reminded her of and simply focused her mind elsewhere. Where were those Hexes Holdem cards she had? She still needs to pay back Cait for all those hands she got "cheated" out of. She didn't lose! That darn cat was gonna be eating some humble pie one of these days with her next strategy already brewing in her head. Heh. Yeah. The wild card! She smirked to herself.
"...Eda might be able to describe it better?"
Her eyes opened and turned to look at the two. "Hm what? Oh right...the magic thing." she cleared her throat and looked at Lucille closely. Yup. She had a bit of Tsukiko's mana in her now. So casting something by herself should be a whole heck of a lot easier now. At least it SHOULD be. Her hand met her chin as she thought out loud. "...as for how I usually do it...well...all magic is different and how it gets casts varies. But visualizing stuff in your noggin usually helps for me." she snorted, looking proud of herself "Heck, I can just get a brief image in my head and bam! Fireball!" she chuckled to herself then sighed as she looked at Lucille. This was a human. Magic was a brand new thing to them. Ugh. Why'd this have to be so complicated?
"Just..." she grumbled "...take a finger and trace a circle before you in the air. Imagine that feeling you have right now going from your heart to your fingertip and just....ease it out like ink in a quill..." she stumbled, unsure of her own words since this was a completely new thing. It was how she always did it.

Lucille scratches her chin in thought even as her body feels like it's vibrating with mysterious energy. "Just draw a circle? I didn't really need to do that for the spells I previously cast but hey, worth a shot. I'm supposed to do the little light thingie right?" She double checks.
Then she tries to do as Eda says, tracing a circle with her finger in the air as she focuses on that sensation flowing through her, trying to push it out of her finger. To her pleasant surprise her fingertip glows and a circle is traced in the air. She's doing it!
So, light, she's supposed to make light right? Light light light, fancy glowy, just draw a circle and—FLASH!
Unlike Eda's light spell which was relatively tame, Lucille fails to regulate how much power she puts into it causing a BRIGHT AS HELL flash of light to explode right in front of her face. "ACK! Too much light!" She exclaims as she is briefly blinded and starts rubbing her eyes.

Tsukiko tried not to laugh, but the way Lucille flashed herself in the face reminded her so much of herself back in the day and she let out a chuckle in spite of herself. She'd done the same thing the first time she'd tried to conjure a light, just pouring magic into it without any sort of regulation. It had taken several more tries to get it just right.
"Well at least you managed to cast it, given time you should be able to do it without the circle I think. I don't usually draw circles myself for most basic spells. But the circle provides structure, there's one spell of mine I do still need a magic circle for, though I don't draw it by hand. It's simply too tough a spell to do without one right now." Tsukiko said "maybe you'll learn it one day, but for now, let's try to get you casting a light spell without blinding yourself. You've got the feeling of casting down, now just... visualize it more clearly. Imagine what you want the magic to do, imagine yourself doing it and the magic doing as you will... if you can get this down, I'll teach you one of my favorite spells"

Eda exclaimed as the flash went off, nearly recoiling with how bright it was. "AH! What in titan's name?!" She had her arm over her eyes and grunted with effort as she tried to see again. "Thaaaaaaat's what I was expecting." she remarked with an tiresome grumble. She squinted and blinked a few times then rubbed her eyes. "Not bad for a human..." she started as she shook her head then waved her hand in front of her face to make sure she could actually see again. "But, you got no stopper. Limiter. Casting like that is just gonna push out all the magic at once and that's kinda wasteful!" she explained in a semi-scolding way. Then she smirked. "Then again, it makes for a great getaway tool!"From outside, the unmistakable voice of Hooty could be heard. "EDA! YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU WERE BRINGING MORE GUESTS!" Eda wore a confused expression and lifted a brow. "The heck is that bird talking about?" she leaned over to get a good look outside the front door. Her eyes contracted. "Ah farts..." she dismally remarked. Cal and King were backing away from a large group of what were Heartless. The same types Lucille had seen before. ALong with them, were different creatures that bore an insignia. From her books, these Heartless were of the Emblem variety and were flying. They resembled an armored bird of some kind with red claws. This one had NOT been seen in her books. Moreover, they were surrounding a group of four figures that were holding them off as best they could. A muscular, rotund magenta-skinned hulk...a short squirrel-like bipedal...a top-hatted figure with only their eyes visible...and a cerulean-skinned fish person wielding a rapier. "I don't think we're in the Underground anymore...""Ed, that is obvious at first glance.""Why us? I didn't take anything from them!" "Mooch, I don't think these guys care!""Moray's right; these guys actually wanna hurt us!""They're welcome to try!""Don't get carried away, Ace!""Hey, over there...is that a...human?"Eda's eyes met with the fish-person. She'd never seen these monsters before in her life but she knew what Heartless were. Were these local demons? They sure didn't look like they were from the Boiling Isles... "Alright kids. Looks like the Heartless have decided to pay us a visit..." she held out her hand and her staff whipped past the girls and straight into her grasp. She stepped outside as the Heartless surrounded King and Cal now. Cal whimpered alongside King who tried looking fierce but crumpled under the fearful air these creatures had. They both cowered. Hooty suddenly plunged from the earth and whipped his body around to shove that particular group of Heartless away, allowing the two cuties to retreat back to the safety of the house. "Hah! Too slooooo~ooow!" taunted Hooty who bent his body back and forth. "Hooty-hooty hoot-hoot!" he'd sing mockingly. Eda smirked. "Good job, Hooty. Keep them safe. We'll handle the rest." she looked back to Lucille and Tsukiko. "If it gets too dangerous, head back inside. But for now, try and cull as many of them as you can and get those four to safety!" she then leapt into the fray as the Heartless noticed her presence. "Are they gonna attack?""It appears as if they're going to help.""Humans? Helping monsters? Yeah we're DEFINITELY not home!""Just...work with them for now and sort this all out later!"And now a fight was on. In the middle of the magic lesson. Then again, this would also be a lesson. A hands-on one.

Lucille tries her best to listen to the advice given to her while she continues to blink the bedazzlement out of her eyes. "Ehehe, yeah, got it..." She says nervously. Then she would hear a commotion outside, with the three of them exiting to find many Heartless and a group of odd-looking strangers as well. What on Earth is all this?
She grunts in frustration. Right, Cal is a magnet for the Heartless. She should've expected they'd make a move once they left Scala Ad Caelum. She grabs her sword from the doorway and draws it, assuming the combat stance she had practiced hundreds of times before at this point. Even if she couldn't reliably use magic, hopefully her sword training thus far would be able to carry her through.
